As good as it's always been
I have been staying at the Hilton Checkers for something like 18 years but I don't think I have ever written a review. So here we go: My wife and I stayed at the Checkers for one night earlier this month. It's been quite a few years since I last stayed here but it's good to see that things are just as good as they always were. The lobby and bar area have all been refurbished since I last stayed, as have the guest rooms. It's a much more contemporary look and feel. The lobby and bar are a lot brighter and open. Check in was fine. We'd been upgraded to a larger room on the 12th floor and we had a decent night's sleep. It was great to see proper glassware in the room. It's a relatively small thing but it makes a big difference to the stay. Bed was perhaps a little too firm for our liking but we slept well. There was the occasional noise from the elevators but it certainly didn't keep up awake. There was also very little, if any, noise from the street. The only criticism about the room was that the power didn't work in either of the two nightstands but the hotel said they'd get this checked out so hopefully they did. We ate at the bar. Despite the hotel being full the bar was pretty quiet. Service was good. We had the ravioli and the burger. Both were hot and tasty. The menu is a lot more limited than when I last stayed at Checkers but considering it's downtown LA it's on a par with nearby restaurants. The only gripe was an "Admin Fee" that was added to the check. The staff had no idea what this was, and I insisted it be removed. Breakfast the following morning was a buffet. No a la carte option was available, although they would do fried eggs if you preferred. It was really great to see Max still working at the restaurant, and so nice that he remembered me! Service was excellent as usual. The buffet selection could be a little better (perhaps some charcuterie and cheeses) but what we had we enjoyed: it was generally hot and fresh. It's $24.99 per person which isn't great but - as I said above - it's DTLA so not unexpected. All in all it was an excellent night and I'd have no hesitation in rebooking and staying again on my next visit to LA. I've always enjoyed staying at Checkers and this was no different. It's a really good, well run, downtown hotel.

Great experience.
My stay in Los Angeles was super fun!! The hotel was nice, my room was clean, the bed was comfortable, however I wish the ice machine on my floor worked. The front desk agents were very helpful, but I also had a blast at the bar. The bartender I believe his name is Andre was real cool and fun to talk to, and makes a Great drink!!!

Lovely, quaint, aristocratic, and convenient hotel
Good: it was lovely, well maintained and with great service. Restaurant and Bar. Bad: the bathroom lacked functionality- there was no vanity to put your toiletries, etc. First bathroom I’ve seen like this throughout my travels. And no proper closet with a door. There were hangers on a wall, iron and ironing board. But the hangers were all 4ft from the floor- nothing for dresses or pants. Plus, it was right as you entered so, if you stayed there for a few days, everyone would have to see your clothes as they entered, etc. Strange. Also, not enough space to put your clothes in a drawer. No coffee maker and no microwave. We were just staying overnight and going on a cruise the next day - so it was fine. But definitely not for a long stay. Breakfast was a la crate $24.99 per person. Room service was excellent though. Food was good. Recommendation : stay at the Hampton inn (sister hotel to the grand). Same breakfast and complimentary. Coffee and tea - always complimentary upon arrival and 24x7 in most Hampton inns. Same beds, pillows, cleanliness and comfort. But no restaurant or bar. The Hilton brand is still great.

Doesn’t feel like Hilton
Feels old, doesn’t have the modern Hilton standards I believe. The receptionists weren’t very nice as well I felt. I just needed a hotel to watch an nba game at crypto.com which I went walking although not recommended in LA due to security but it was all good

Good location
Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff and a good location with a free buss to the Mall just outside. Not far from the metro making it easy to get round and walking distance from the Lakers stadium. We were on a B & B basis and the breakfasts were brilliant. Only down side was there was no free wifi which in this day and age was surprising.
