Great First Aruba Vacation
We stayed at the Hilton for 10 days. The check-in process was seamless. Unfortunately we were assigned a lower floor, odd numbered ocean view room that really just looked at the roof. This was disappointing, though the other two couples in our group were higher up and with even roof numbers had better exposure. We asked if we could be moved but the hotel was fully booked. In the long run it didn't make that much of a difference to us. The rooms are just rooms...nicely decorated and our bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included with our package so we went to the buffet most mornings. The buffet, though not large, had enough options for us. My husband used the gym a few times. It is on the small side and was pretty busy in the mornings. In my opinion, the Hilton is located on the best part of Palm Beach. We liked that we could walk out the back door to access lots of dining options on foot and the waterfront is beautiful. The majority of the pool was closed during our stay due to construction at the Westerly, but the part that was still open was immaculate. There was lots of lively music around the pool later in the afternoon. We used an ocean view palapa each day. These need to be booked ahead of time and are added to your bill. I would say that this resort is a bit expensive. Food, drinks and palapas add up pretty quickly. We did use the beach service on occasion (amazing mojitos) but also often brought our own drinks and snacks to the beach. Despite being in a busy area we found the resort to relaxing and quiet enough for us. We loved going for a big walk early in the morning along the boardwalk and then down to Eagle Beach and back. This made us feel like we had earned the right to hold down a beach chair for the rest of the day. If you are headed to the Hilton you will have a good time and will find the property to be well maintained by attentive employees. When we return to Aruba we are likely to try a different resort but would also return to the Hilton if the opportunity presented itself.

Caribbean nostalgia, but with bigger crowds
After nine years away from Aruba (we used to have a time share at the Divi Phoenix), Carol and I decided to go back for a week, and we picked the Hilton because we stayed at this hotel on our first visit there, when it was a Radisson. Perhaps not surprisingly, the island has greatly changed in nine years, and, as is often the case, not all for the better. It is much more built up and, of course, more crowded. The one thing that has not been built up is the amount of beach (often less in some places due to erosion), which makes the competition for a place on the sand, with shade, more intense. On this, a bit more later. The hotel dates back to 1957, but it has also been expanded. Part of the layout was familiar from our first stay, and the grounds are still very green and aesthetically laid out. There are still caged parrots, macaws, and a cockatoo, but now they are displayed together in one are rather than scattered around, and they have been made into an educational display. There are several eating venues. We mostly used Oscar's Market for breakfast and lunch (with one breakfast being taken at the Laguna, which is a table service restaurant), but had our dinners offsite. Oscar's is open from 6:00Am to 11:00PM, so it was very convenient. Our room was modest in size, and fine for our purposes, except that it could have used more than just one lounge chair. Our view was nothing much, though we could see the water from our balcony, which looked towards the weest and the massive Riu Palace, as well as some of the ongoing construction of a the new Westerly tower. Oh, well . . . Our biggest complaint is with the method for reserving a palapa on the beach. When it was the Radisson, it was a simple sign-up at a specific time, first come, first served, with no extra charge. Now, despite the much higher room rates charged these days, while there are some available for free (never near the water), most of the palapas can only be reserved for a fee, the highest coming to over $100 for one day if you want it for the whole day. Our friends who have time shares at the Playa Linda tell us that theirs are still obtained, for no charge, by just going down (albeit before dawn) and claiming one in the morning. As I said, this was our biggest complaint about what was a very pleasant and nostalgic stay.

Not so nice ending to a nice stay
We booked 2 rooms for 8 nights each. Had to leave 1 night early due to the storm coming to the east coast this past weekend. Talked to the front desk personnel(rude) and the manager and showed them the alerts we were getting on our phones. It didn’t matter, they said we still had to pay for the last night. As a matter of fact, we were even charged the resort fee and we weren’t even there. They told us to talk to the director the day we were leaving but he/she would not even come out to talk to us. Terrible customer service, and this was after being there for a full week in 2 rooms. Furthermore, had we gotten stuck there, the hotel was fully occupied. The flight we were on did in fact get cancelled, as did all flights up and down the east coast…..do better for your members, Hilton
