Not Recommended
I stayed at this hotel for 10 days in January 2026. Some positives. A lot more negatives. I do NOT recommend this hotel. (If you’re a techie, jump to below, NO ROOM WIFI). Positives: 1. Great, well maintained pool area (but note that guests are up at 7am ‘reserving pool chairs’. By 9am, there isn’t a chair that isn’t ‘reserved’. The hotel cracked down on this on Day Nine. Too little. Too late). 2. Genuinely friendly staff at reception, bar and restaurant). English was limited though 3. Decent food in the restaurant (heavily weighted to Mexican food so if you’re looking for a full on English breakfast or a N American breakfast, your options are limited). I lived on fruit, cheese and pastries. Negatives: 1. SECURITY: Poor room security. It felt like the 1970s main door knob was going to fall off. There was no digital door lock security technology. The room safe had no digital passcode but had a ‘block bolt’ operated by a key. (Don’t lose that key as they are clear you will pay for the replacement!) The safe was too small to fit an iPad. The balcony door had a dodgy door lock. SECURITY: 1/10. 2. LOCATION: The hotel is located at least a 25 min local bus ride (I don’t recommend !) or 15 min taxi ride from the old city. LOCATION: 2/10. 3. ROOM: The room was VERY dated. Example: there was a broken lamp in the room. (Why not just remove it?). The soap dish was dangling and the soap always slid onto the counter. And the shower, dear lord, don’t get me started. One of the bedside lights was broken. The bathroom door scraped on the floor opening and closing. The room was dark, dingy and damp. The curtains didn’t pull across without a hard tug. I’ve travelled to 58 countries and this is the third worst hotel room I’ve stayed in. The room was dismal and depressing. ROOM score: 2/10. 4. LOCAL AREA: Walmart is close and another shopping mall. But in Puerto Vallarta you risk a fall anytime you walk anywhere with the uneven pavement LOCAL AREA: 6/10. 5. PORTERS / TAXI STAFF: Zero % aware of taxi fares. There’s a hotel taxi rate fare board which doesn’t match what the taxi drivers charge. Even after asking the hotel porters to confirm the fares. Clueless. PORTERS / TAXI STAFF score: 4/10. 6. WIFI. There is NO WIFI in the rooms. I requested a room change closer to the communal area so I had WIFI. But be warned, no room WIFI. WIFI SCORE: 0/10. Puerto Vallarta / Hacienda Buenaventura: Not impressed. Not much to see and do. Never again.

Wanted an authentic Mexican boutique resort for our holiday
We book last minute for 1 week at the Hacienda Mexican Charm. Small resort, 1 small pool, 2 bars, buffet, 1 alacarte and a snack bar. We booked the Superior King room. Dated room and hotel, but charming and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The walk to the beach was short and pleasant, always beach chairs available and a small bar for our resort. Nice beach for walking, not swimming. Undertow and waves are strong. The pool is heated and comfortable. Busy but not overcrowded. Sometimes hard to find a lounger by the pool, but not a big deal. The drinks were good. Lots of options for blender drinks (made with flavour syrup not fresh fruit) and large selection of spirits. Always had mix for spirits. Breakfast was the best buffet meal of the day. Lunch and dinner at the buffet were disappointing. It is a very small buffet which is ok, but the food options weren't great. We ate at the snack bar for lunch everyday, yummy burgers, hotdogs and fries. Maybe 3 days a week there's a simple entertainment show, but we're usually in bed by then anyways. 75% of guests were over 75+ years old (mostly staying long term) 15% of guests 50+ years The remainder 10% was mostly young Mexican families. Would I go back? Yes if the price was right. We paid $1800 each for 1 week. I wouldn't pay that much to return.

Sabores de Mexico ... Great dinner!
Dinner at the al a cart restaurant Sabores de Mexico was so nice. Hostess Monserath was awesome and Our waiter Alfredo gave us impeccable service. Went 2 nights in a row and looking forward to going again! Very relaxing atmosphere, chilled wine and the best tamarind margaritas! Thanks Alfredo (and happy birthday!)

Best birthday ever
Old Mexican charm...tiled roofs, flowers, fountains and iguanas, Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely pool and access to the beach. So much fun. We left for lots of activities but Uber was cheap and easy and we didn't need to negotiate taxi rates or figure out the bus schedule
