    Meh

Stayed here for a mix of business and R&R trip. Good location if you’re not keen on being on the strip. Rooms are spacious, but one I was in is dark, small windows, dim lights, with a view of a parking lot; also not well appointed with amenities just bare minimum, no slippers, no robes, no coffee maker, etc. Stars off for the hotel not being environmentally friendly— they use a lot of plastic— shampoo, lotion, etc. all in single use plastic containers. I doubt they recycle given that I didn't see any recycling bins anywhere. Biggest disappointment and more stars off is the hotel pool is only open from 9 AM to 7 PM! so I couldn't do early morning or evening swims even though those are some of the best times in Vegas to swim to avoid the heat. So, that took away from my resort experience. Also, the main pool is not that big and not conducive for lap swimming, it gets crowded too. The other pools are in the spa and by the cabanas both of which you have to pay extra for to use. The only plus is that the hotel is well-maintained and very clean but they’ll also clean out your wallet, not a good value for the money. I can’t recommend.

Thoughtful room design and great place.

I was there for a small conference, so I only had a little choice of where to stay. The hotel is not all that large (this is a good thing), but it has a good selection of restaurants and bars. Even the Starbucks had no lines and was a God-send for early morning coffee. The catering food served at the conference was surprisingly good. Check-in and out were painless, and no lines. The pool area looked nice from the inside, but at ~100 degrees, going outside was not an option. The WiFi was free and fast. I don't particularly like the Southwestern/Mexican architectural style of the hotel, but that's just a minor detail. The room had a comfortable bed; the A/C was quiet and effective. But the best thing about the room was the thoughtfulness of the design. Almost as good as the typical Japanese hotel room. Light switches were located where you expected them and had a little light in them so you could find them. There were lots of accessible power sockets and a separate make-up table and mirror. The bathroom had both a deep bath and shower, and it was possible to adjust the shower temp from outside the shower and not only from inside while wet and cold. And the actual toilet was in a separate room with a door. Everything worked and even the alarm clock showed the right time and did not blink 12:00. The only negative is that there was no coffee maker.

Nice hotel, but a bit disappointing. I'll try another hotel for my next stay in the area.

Watch out for the "bait & switch" when booking a room. I booked a king-sized bed, but only two queens were available upon check-in. I had to pay an additional fee for the room initially booked. Also, the A/C was not on/working in several areas.

    Disappointing

I really wanted to like this place, as I heard it was one of the nicer properties. After checking in, all I wanted to do was shower, shave, and go to bed — as I had a long travel day, and was only there for one night. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no hot water. Also, the sink and bathtub drain was completely clogged. Upon contacting the staff, I was told an engineer would be coming. It took a long time, but he was nice. Unfortunately, this was bigger problem, so a second engineer had to come with a giant snake to remove the clog. By this time 45 minutes had passed, and the entire room was entrenched with a horrid smell from all of the bacteria etc in the clog. I felt more like a tenant having my unit fixed by a landlord than I did a paying hotel guest at a large hotel. It was inappropriate for me to even be in there, with all of the filth spurting from the sink, and like I said, the haunting smell. They were not able to fix the clog after about 15 minutes, so I asked to be moved somewhere habitable. Not to mention, wouldn’t they need to send cleaners after all that mess? That would mean even more time waiting to shower. A few minutes later I get a call from “Bobby” who said he was an assistant manager. He didn’t know the situation, like the engineer did not at first — which made me concerned about the lack of communication between the staff. But he did say he would be sending up someone with a new key and to take my bags. I kept waiting in the smelly room, and after 10 minutes I get a call from a woman who just says “you need help with bag or just key? Ok. Ok.” And abruptly hangs up. Here I was expecting a knock any minute, per the assistant manager, and yet not only have they not arrived yet, but they’re asking me foolish questions. Why am I still in this smelly room — is the only question that should have been asked. Now, when the guy finally showed up and handed me the keys, they put me in a room that was just down the hall. I’m not looking for anything free, but the attitude from the staff was almost as if they were doing me a favor. Of course, the room had the same problems, although the water was a little warmer and the drain was moving slightly faster. I would shave part of my face, then wait 5 minutes for the sink water to lower just so I could finish. I felt like I was in the most disgusting, run down place. And yet, the reason I booked was because I was under the impression it was a 4-star property. I then ordered room service, and the pizza arrived cold. After I signed and tipped, I noticed the receipt says “Gratuity is included” right above where it says “suggested tip” with 3 percentage options. Talk about an oxymoron. I’m no stranger to fees, but that type of blatant rascality is and lazy classless. The next morning, I asked if I could checkout one hour earlier, and they tried to hit me with a $30 fee at first. I guess these people really mistook me for a schlep. I didn’t see or hear anyone coming out of rooms in my hallway. I honestly think they knew this entire water/plumbing problem was happening, way before I arrived, but tried to play it off and nickel/dime me to the end. Yeah, it’s M resort for me.

    Needs a remodel

The rooms are getting very dated. My air conditioning went out in the night. Had to have it fixed. HVAC engineer Haley was awesome fixed in no time that morning g saved me moving rooms. The security guy out at the pool was a jerk when I was trying to take a photo. He was watching TV on his cellphone and kept saying the pool is closed. I was in workout clothes. The casino is very Smokey. I highly recommend Durango. New. Clean and nice.
