Good resort for families, somehow old, but overall good!!! Great staff!!!

We were at Grand Sirenis Punta Cana resoft on the week of May 13th to 20th, 2023. We were a family with 2 kids and one of my brothers and leave in Miami. This was our first time to Punta Cana. The resort is kind of old, built on year 2000 and renovated in 2018, it shows signs of being old. We picked this resort because of its Water Park, and honestly, kids had a great time at the half a day we spent at the included water park in our full 7 days stay. The main water park tower rides are not renovated, and as a result a couple of the slides are closed out, on the others you can easily get skin damage because they are tough, specially on the joints, and also on the one that you get flushed like a toilet. My brother got skin broken on his arms and feet. Wife and I did not because we wore long sleeve rashguards and we only went on the slides 1 or twice. We can tell you that the water park should not be the main reason to come to this resort, as we later learned from local van drivers that this was the first water park in Punta Cana, but there are many newer and nicer ones in other resorts. We booked through Expedia that included the flight back and forth from Miami as a package and given the time of the year we picked we've got a good price. We learned that booking through Expedia gave us some special attention at the resort as there were Expedia reps that approached us multiple times making sure we were well taken care of. Also on Sunday, we got a Fruit Plate on our room without asking, not sure if it was related to Expedia. We also were invited to a special dinner by the beach on one of the nights, that we all enjoyed and felt special because of it. Luis Morillo, one of the guys who was there to give us the welcome to the resort on the first day, he may be one of the managers or “gerentes”, was around during our stay asking how things were working for us and making sure we were pleased with the staff and the resort amenities. He invited us to that special dinner by the beach and also to the Taino dinner on our first or second night. He is a humble man who seems to work hard to make sure resort guests are taken care of, even though he recognizes the age of the resort and the issues that come with it. We had booked a Family room but because we wanted to be next to my brother and he had booked a Romance room, upon asking at arrival we were upgraded to the Romance room next to him, the ones with King bed and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. Both have a balcony with Cana palm trees roof, very tropical. The room were on the 3rd floor in the main building, just above one of the Buffets, a very convenient location for us with Kids. But we had some issues with both rooms, mainly to the fact that the hotel is old and not very well maintained. We had to wait a long time for the rooms to be ready, and my brother’s room was dirty once he was allowed to get in. He found a lot of hair in the shower drain that was clogging it. Service took a long time to come and fix it for him. His AC did not cool at all, and again service took a long time to fix, and it never worked well after that, but he was able to sleep somehow. On the second day the cleaning lady did a better job, and his room was finally acceptable cleaner. Our room had the toilet clogged multiple times during our stay. On some days, we run out of hot water while taking a bath in the Jacuzzi or the shower. But our room was somehow cleaner, and our AC worked OK. Since we did not wanted to sleep with our 2 sons in the same King bed, we asked for 2 children beds, cots, and at the end of the first night, after contacting the front desk a second time, someone came and provided a very small foldable cot, and a small baby playground. These were fine for the 2 years old kid, but our 4 years old was kind of bent in it, but he did not complain and slept well the 7 nights in it. We did reserve the different restaurants on our own the first day, one every night, using the online hotel application. You are able to reserve 1 restaurant per day per room, but you can cancel and then reserve another one on any day if available, all online. We loved the Raw Bar, the Japaneese, and the Tex Mex by the pool area, where I enjoyed the best delicious juicy New York Steak I have ever tasted here on our last night. The Brazilian is not that good, but if you go, please wait for the last meat they take to your table, it was “picaña” the best Brazilian beef meat cut, it was OK but not very good. We did not like at all the French restaurant. The pool is old, outdated, and there are some sewer smell by the swim up bar, but we had a great time in it, mainly on the deep side of it that was not that crowded, since we brought from home inflatable pool hammocks floats for us to float around on the pool and life jacket vests for the kids. We always found some chairs by the pool area no matter the time of the day we went to the pool. Beach is good, no seaweed during our stay. Breezy and beautiful beach, although we only went half a day to it. There were plenty of beach chairs available. Food at the buffets was good, plenty and flavorful. We did not notice any cleaning issue at the food or drink areas, all was as expected, although we brought from home insulated stainless steel tumblers for the whole family, Simple Modern on Amazon, and we always asked to be served drinks on them. We did not get stomach sickness other than me some diarrhea one of the days, but this is expected as there are so much food and drinks available. On a side note: We took a lot of single dollar bills for tipping. Tipping is not required, but we felt the need to do so to motivate staff to do their best job. Many of them leave in the resort for 11 days, then go home for 3, back to the resort 11 more days, and they work a lot of hours a day. Any tip is better than nothing, as the exchange was around 54 Dominican pesos for each dollar. They certainly remember the guests who tip and try to give you the best possible service. The entertainment staff is great, they work hard and put on a lot of great shows every night at the Theater. Please go and enjoy the shows, they are great, different each night. Do not miss the Taino dinner show if you can, it was outside on the sand in an area close to the Disco on Saturdays by reservation only. Kids had a lot of fan on one of the nights after the Theater show it was Family Disco night and they danced with the entertainment staff at the Disco and were given balloons to dance with. Lot of fun for the whole family. We also booked 3 tour excursion outside the resort and went to Eco Tour Playa el Limon (highly recommended) on Sunday, Scape Park on Tuesday (zip lines, our 4 years old kid was able to ride at least one of them, and 2 cave swims plus Hoyo Azul), and Saona Island on Thursday. We spent a day at the hotel after each of the tour days to rest and relax, because the tour excursion surely tire you out. Overall, it was a great stay for us and we had a lot of fun.

Had a lovely family holiday however it was a bit disappointing with the level of service and also judged by what colour

Just come back from the Dominican, the weather was good for the first week but a bit rainy the second. Overall the resort was good and very clean. I feel the restaurants let the resort down as there was never enough cutlery or plates. We also didn’t realise that there are several different colour wristbands and this determines what service you get from the staff and also the more you tip the better service you get everywhere. The Japanese restaurant was by far the best.

    Just ok

I've been holding off with a review as I don't normally write reviews but feel I should when we had paid alot of money. The hotel and services are just Ok i would say 3.5 star and it would have been 3 star if not for the onsite water park. I completely agree with other reviews regards trying to find a clean table or even cutlery especially for evening meals. Thankfully we were well looked for at breakfast by a staff member named Anna but before it was shocking. Most staff are friendly and happy to help but some staff not so friendly. Coffee shop served good drinks and snacks but again it was as if we were a nuisance when going in and not friendly at all. Entertainment for young kids looked wonderful but not so much for activities for teens. Food quality was ok. We managed to find something but it wasn't great. The themed restaurants again were just OK other than the Japanese which was excellent. Route 66 terrible service, terrible food and was only offered water with our meal. Rooms were OK and we had water coming through the ceiling when the room above showered around day 12, however we coped as we were leaving not long after. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the hotel and would not return. If I had the chance again I would have changed to a different hotel. Onside water park was good and although its a little tired it was fun. Beach was beautiful but unfortunately most days there was seaweed. The guys clearing the beach work absolutely tirelessly and they deserve the tips more than anyone. They really do work hard. The grounds are kept beautiful and really does give you a good impression when you arrive but there were far too many other issues along the way. We tried to keep positive as we are not fussy people and overall still had a nice holiday. There are other things I could mention but we just got on with it. If you are expecting 4 or 5 star this is not the place. The hotel could be so much better.

Grand Serenis Punta Cana...won't be disappointed.

Fantastic vacation at Grand Serenis Punta Cana. Staff were amazing. Especially Ruth our server in the Lobby Bar. Food was great all week and weather was perfect. The A La Cartes were vg...especially the steak house. The resort is very well laid out. Will be back for sure.
