Needs some TLC
We went as a group of almost 40, with various ages from children to grand-parents. Overall we had an amazing time, as we got to enjoy each other's company and make the most of what we had. This being said, we also all agreed we would not return. We have all had many all inclusive vacations in many different places, and do have lots to compare to. I will caution those reading, a lot of the recent reviews (Nov 2024) are accurate unfortunately. I would choose another resort for now, Sirenis needs a huge overhaul. Below is what they really need to work on: - Needs more staff, that is the most important, which will help everything else! - Most staff do not speak any English or French, if they do it's very minimal, so makes it hard to communicate (our entire group is english/french bilingual) the ones that did ok seemed to be the Americans that can speak spanish with the staff. - Many in our group did not get the room they requested when originally booked, and then had to pay extra to change rooms. - Safe: test it before you put anything in it, mine locked then would not open, they will not come fix if you're not there. I called several times, I gave up as I thankfully I had tested before (so nothing in it) and had family next door so just used theirs... another in our group wasted a hour and half waiting for someone to show up to fix theirs. - Cleanliness is lacking everywhere: 1)Rooms:The majority of days, my room was not done until almost 5pm, which is when I'm needing to be in my room to shower and get ready for dinner (I did have the door tag to "please clean" every day after we left for the pool around 10:30-11am). Every day, I had to ask for a couple extra towels, which our staff was always annoyed with, but there are no shower doors and the floor gets soaked, as well my daughter has long hair, so she likes to have an extra for her hair. There is quite a bit of mold in the bathrooms, which I understand being south, but this was more than other resorts I've been to. 2)Bathrooms: throughout the resort need to be cleaned more frequently, especially keeping up with toilet paper, and especially the bathrooms by the pool area. By the pool/beach, there are only 2 bathrooms, opposite ends of the areas, and one was out of service the entire week, and did not appear to be getting worked on (so if you ended up at that one, you had to go all the way across to the other one, not good with children or in an emergent bathroom need). - The dinners are good, but the "A La Carte" building are all extremely hot inside with no a/c, no air flow or fans. The service is also slow, so prepare to be there a while. - The restaurants, especially the Brazillian/Italian/Japanese need better signage, was difficult to find. (But I did go to all 3, they were good). Booking the A La Cartes is not simple, and they apparently "book up" quickly. You have to do either through the QR code, or the consierge (which also an issue). It is nice that you can book every night, there is no limit, but unfortunately the first few nights are already booked up everywhere, and then we were told we can only book 3 nights at a time, so then we weren't able to book others cause we ran out of days to book. - There's lack of fans throughout the property, and if they do have them they are off or not powerful enough (especially in the front lobby, and waiting to leave at the end of the trip, dressed to go back for winter, no fans, no a/c, very uncomfortable waiting for your shuttle back to the airport). - There is no "bank" and if you go with Canadian dollars, they won't even exchange it for US dollars. Which isn't good for the resort if you want to buy anything or for the staff, as that means we can't tip them anymore. - Our kids all had fun at the water park - they are kids after all, but be careful... we had many injuries, from slide burns, to rolling off the carpets, scratches and bruises, they are not a "smooth" ride, your skin (and/or bathing suit) snags on the seams of the slides. - The Theater I can not speak to, it was not near the lobby, it was in a separate part away, so not a convenient location, which is why I never went to a "show". - There was fun music activities in the front Plaza, but it is outdoors, so if it's raining too bad. Also, the evening didn't start until 9:30, even 10pm some nights.... by that time, most of us were too tired to enjoy the fun nights, and karaoke, especially with young children, this should really start about 8:30-9pm at the latest. - The lobby seems to be where the "fun" is happening in the evenings, we definitely enjoyed ourselves there the most and the plaza. To be noted there are 2 "halls" separated by a middle hall that is not covered, so if it's raining, everyone is crowded in the 2 sections. And it is very lacking in seating too, so that's very unfortunate, you end up standing a lot, when all you want to do is sit down, have a drink, and good conversations with family and friends after you've had dinner. - The entire resort needs more staff! Cleaner, bar tenders, servers, cooks. Lobby doesn't have many servers, bartenders take a while. Pool side there is NO Serving staff at all, so you must go get your own drink. Although there seemed to be 2 staff at each bar, only one person was ever serving, service was always extremely slow. - The pool is where the majority of our group stayed. Having children we stuck to the "family/fun" side, as the pools had more variety of shallow and deep ends. The "quiet/adult" side was nice, but we felt badly going over there with such a large number of kids. Our kids loved the pool. I will say though, in the deeper section the only way in/out was an old school metal ladder, not steps or slop, and the metal gets hot throughout the day, so having to pull yourself up a ladder, or going down to get in the water isn't the greatest (especially for me that had spinal surgery). There is no ledge to be able to sit or stand along the sides of the pool, so unless you have a "floaty" it is difficult to just hang out in the water - they do need to increase the amount of servers in the pool/bar area, as well as have staff going around for drinks - the music is fun, but at times, it was unnecessarily loud. I have lost my voice as I had to speak loudly the entire time just to have conversations within our group. Overall we did have a great time!! These are just what the management and owners really need to focus on if they want traveller's to come back more than one time. Our group is very experienced in all-inclusive, not many places I say I would not go back... unfortunately this one I would not, and that is also how majority of our group felt. Implement/work on these recommendations, this could be a great place!

Sometimes may be good - Sometimes may be *Bad*
The hotel's location is decent, but keep in mind that it is on the Atlantic Ocean, not the Caribbean Sea. This means you’ll encounter choppier waters rather than the calm, light-blue waters often associated with Caribbean destinations. The photos seem to have been taken on a rare calm day—during our two-week stay, we didn’t see conditions like those depicted. The staff's attitude was mixed; about half were friendly and attentive, while the other half seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Some even appeared annoyed by simple requests, like asking for a spoon. Additionally, the staff seemed to lack the authority to resolve issues and often redirected us to reception or concierge. This wasn’t a major issue for most of the trip, but it became frustrating when problems arose. For example, I exchanged money for tokens to play pool, but the pool table was out of order. I spent three hours being sent from one staff member to another trying to get a refund and eventually gave up. On another occasion, we wanted to play tennis, but no one was at the court. When I asked reception, they referred me to the concierge, who then sent me to the gym. On my way there, I finally spotted the person responsible, casually having coffee in the café. By the end of our trip, we felt we should have spent more to stay somewhere where English was more widely spoken, as communication issues added to our frustrations. Another disappointment was the lack of Premier League football on the TVs, even in the sports bar, which was a let down for footie fans, not showing Liverpool vs Man city is scandalous. The food was mediocre, though at least I didn’t get sick. The buffet constantly recycled dishes from the specialty restaurants, which made the restaurants feel redundant apart from offering a change of scenery. The trips offered are excellent days out so do as many of them as you can afford, I would recommend the Reef Explorer and Los Hiatuses trips which were incredible. The gardeners do an excellent job as the gardens were immaculate and they offered fresh coconuts every morning, which I would recommend and then I would take the used coconut and ask the bar staff to make a cocktail inside. (the bar staff were the best staff there, with tips especially, if you don't tip you get small plastic cups not larger glass ones). I was not here on a hate mission so naturally only took photos of the things I liked.

Amazing family resort
We just got back Friday from a lovely vacation at this resort! Checkin was a little slow but we weren’t bothered by it. Our rooms were ready by 3pm sharp. The buffet staff were wonderful. They were always friendly to our children. There is always many things to choose from. My daughter is a picky eater and she never went hungry and actually talked about how much she loved the food! The iced coffee in the lobby bar is delicious! We probably had 20 in our 7 day trip. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. Never any shortages of chairs! The gardeners are constantly cutting down coconuts and offering them to guests. Our children were so excited to try fresh coconuts! The pools were great for travelling with young children. Since there is a small wading pool where parents can relax and still be close and watch the kids play. The American food truck is delicious (mainly the burgers 😍). The staff there were so friendly! The waterpark was well kept and perfect for little ones. It is a little bit of a walk from the rooms but we found out after that there is a cart that will transport you there. We didn’t try the big slides so I don’t have any comment on that. The pool buffet food was good but there is often a shortage of utensils and plates. It didn’t bother us though because we understand it is a busy spot for lunch! The beach bbq was good (again we loved the burgers). They always have fruit, tortilla chips, burgers and hot dogs. Fruit juice and water. The Japanese restaurant was to die for! The food was delicious. The Brazilian restaurant was delicious! We did find it quite hot in there but they provided us with lots of water so it wasn’t a big deal! We attended the mini disco which wasn’t what we expected (it was children invited up on stage to dance and do activities) but the kids loved it and the lady who runs it is wonderful! We also attended kids got talent (kids talent show) and that was also adorable ! Although our kids didn’t participate they enjoyed watching the other children perform. My daughter and I got our hair braided and the lady was wonderful and very quick! You don’t need to pay until you checkout which was a bonus. The Dominican Walmart/cocotal gift shop was quite pushy but that didn’t stop us from buying a few trinkets and cute souvenirs. The day time entertainment was fun for the kids they had little paddle boats which was fun and the kids loved it! We also attended the foam party which was neat although it was hard to get to the front where the foam was. The coffee shop was delicious and the donuts and pastry’s were great! It was a nice place to cool off also. 🙂 The sports bar arcade games were expensive but was also a nice place to cool off. 🙂 Feel free to ask questions! We are not picky and although there was some bumps we went for the sun and sand and family ♥️

Brilliant Hotel, food disgusting.
The hotel and grounds itself are beautiful. The staff work hard all over the hotel, they are a credit. The pools and beach are great and the room we stayed in was fantastic, absolutely no complaints. However, the food is abysmal 90% of the time. I found that at a lot of meal times cutlery or glasses aren’t regularly available and asking for these items is a nuisance to staff. A lot of the food is served cold and quality of food is poor, especially meat items. I am currently eating in one of their ‘a la carte’ restaurants. I don’t know how they are calling them a la carte, they hardly deserve to be called independent restaurants. Whilst the service in all restaurants has been good the food quality and consistency is poor. Currently at the Brazilian a la carte and can’t believe the quality of the food been brought out. Compared to 5 days ago the food is disgusting, over cooked and tasteless. Please see below pictures of the same type of beef served, only 5 days apart but quality miles apart. Who knows what you’re going to get at each meal. Just be prepared for food to be hit or miss.

NOT a 5-star resort!
I must start by saying this is NOT a 5-star resort. If you have visited/experienced other 5-star resorts, you’ll know it. We travelled with a large group, 13 adults and 7 children, and booked this resort based on the many positive reviews and mostly their waterpark. Unfortunately, there were more negative reviews after we booked, and we didn’t even look at these then. As a group and individually, we all have visited other 5-star resorts and overall we are not a picky group of people, but if we are paying for and promised a 5-star, that’s what we expect to receive. Not the case here! Upon arrival, there were not many guests checking-in, and almost 10 staff members at front desk, including 2 supervisors. It took them over 1 HOUR to check us in and yet we don’t know why. Staff lost, did not have rooms assigned, they did NOT communicate what was the issue (if any) and the reason for the LONG wait. We were pointed into the direction of our room. Not a lot of information provided as far as the resort grounds. Rooms are OK, but outdated and not very clean. Definitely not as nice as shown on the pictures. Sheets were dirty (had stains), bed headboard very stained, hair in the coffee mug (it remained for the 7 days we were there), bathroom sink would not drain quickly (fixed after 2 days), hair dryer had no hot air at maximum speed. Bathroom lobby was OK, some of the bathrooms such as the one by the theater was not clean. I found a changing table only at the lobby bathroom, none at the bathroom by the pool or the theater (unless I missed it), which can be very inconvenient if you have a baby. Food/restaurants: There are two buffet restaurants, Saona and Macao, and other a la carte. You must have a reservation at all a la carte restaurants, otherwise you can’t go. Getting a reservation is difficult, especially for a large group, which often can be understandable, but they would not allow us to reserve for the large group at the same time. Macao restaurant has a strange smell, like mould. Food is a hit or miss! Majority of the food is mediocre. You get MINIMUM service at the restaurants, if any. Monday at Saona buffet was good food. At the buffet restaurants, they would sit us at tables that were still dirty with dishes from the previous guests and often servers would walk by, look at it, and not do anything; it would take them several minutes for someone to feel like coming by to clean up the table. One of the times, the rag used smelled awful, but they still “cleaned” the table with it. Food at the buffet often looked “sweaty”. Although they had a good variety, not everything looked appetizing and each dish did not have its own serving spoon, so people would grab some food with their own hands or use the same spoon for 3 different dishes. We received good service from server Alexander at El Rancho. That was rare. El Rancho food was decent. La Gira (Brazilian), it took them about 25 minutes to come around with some sort of meat, mostly sausage, chicken and beef that was quite tough (that is not picanha, and we know what a good Brazilian rodizio is). You pretty much finished your side dishes from the buffet by the time they came around with some meat. The buffet restaurant at the Waterpark is DISGUSTING! Birds sit at the food bowls and eat off of it and that’s the same food you choose. No monitoring of it. Drinks: there are some good drinks, but again hit or miss. At most bars, it will take a LONG time for you to get one drink! At the beach bar, often, they ran out of certain alcoholic beverages. Shout out to Pedro at the lobby bar, and Leonardo. Ice cream shop only had 4-5 options of ice cream, which was okay, ice cream was good. The coffee shop had some cups/mugs decorated on the counter showing what some of their coffee options were, and the first time we asked, the counter lady said it was only decoration. The next day, another lady said they make all of those “decoration drinks”. Customer service: you are lucky if you get any, anywhere, including the bars/restaurants/etc. Seems like they are understaffed as everything is slow. There were only a couple of staff members who were friendly and showed they cared for the staff, but rare to come across those. Service is overall quite BAD, and most just don’t care. Often at the buffet restaurants we asked for cutlery, and we would not receive, we would personally go up and grab at the server’s station. Often there were no bowls for breakfast cereals or ice cream @ dinner. They simply must not have enough cutlery/plates/etc for the number of guests they receive. The pizza bar by the pool is great. Pizza freshly made daily and we enjoyed it. For beach towels, they have a card system. You must exchange these cards for towels. You cannot grab more towels than the assigned number of guests in your room. I can understand why they have this system, but it is very inconvenient to keep track of these cards (if you lose, they charge you USD 20.00). HOWEVER, a couple of times they did not have towels! Whether later in the morning or late afternoon, there were times we had to wait about 1 hour to have towels. The first day, they simply said “sorry, no towels.” Pool grounds and beach area are quite nice. Lots of chairs by the pools, but the chairs at the beach are old. The waterpark is a little distant from the main lobby - they have a golf cart shuttle from the lobby to the waterpark, but it is not always in service. One time, we waited for the golf cart shuttle for about 15 minutes until finally a bellman came and informed us there was no service - this can be inconvenient if you have to carry children/bags/etc. over there - would have helped if they had some sort of communication going (if there was, I was not aware). Some water slides need major improvements. Wifi is good. The entertainment staff work hard. The shows are OK, some are a bit mediocre compared to other resorts we’ve been to, but the sound at the theater is EXTREMELY loud, to the point you cannot hear anybody else, and considering the amount of children, absolutely awful. We left one of the shows, could not stand how loud it was. We expressed this to a staff member, who just shrugged her shoulders. They did not care. On our first night, while at the plaza watching a live show, a staff member came by asking for a review, where we told him we had just gotten there and it was too early to tell, but told him the issues we had come across thus far. His response: “oh, tomorrow will be a better day”, and walked away. Another time during our stay, another staff member came by to ask for a review, to write one on the spot, where we denied to do so until we left. At check-out, I was approached asking if I had my phone with me and had gmail to do an “interview”, and she would help me with it. I asked her if she meant a review, she replied yes, where I denied and said would be writing one myself later on. It makes me wonder how they have so many positive/5-star reviews. Either guests are talked into writing it or people just have not experienced an actual 5-star resort. If you are looking for 5-star quality, I do not recommend booking here. I personally will not be returning. It would be different it they were advertising this as maybe a 3-star resort. Upon speaking to many other guests during our stay, the issues were similar for all (some worse), and many unhappy guests! Overall, a frustrating lack of service/communication, cleanliness and quality food. There are a lot of room for improvements and hope management actually addresses it. Lack of service is most likely for being very understaffed.
