Grand Palladium Kantenah - Churchill Bar
The bar and atmosphere is great. We didn't try the hookahs, but they seemed to be a big hit. There was a better selection of spirits here than at many of the other bars in the resort. Our favorite part was Fernanda, who was literally the nicest and most welcoming person we met our entire stay!

Christmas Beach Holiday
Overall we were very satisfied with our family holiday at this resort. The beach is lovely. The adults only secret pool was a nice refuge from the larger kid-friendly pool. The spa was awesome. The service was good. Our main complaints were shared by other visitors. These first problem was the lack of space at the alacarte restaurants. Waiting in line every morning until the concierge arrived only allowed us to book reservations for 2 of the 6 nights we were there with late eating times of 9:30 and 10:00. The other problem was having to get beach towels as soon as the towel hut opened and staking out lounge chairs on the beach or at the pool. This practice should not be allowed. The lack of dinner reservations may be due to the fact it was Christmas and there were many guests at the resort. Plan B was taking the community shuttle bus to Playa Del Carmen and eating dinner at the restaurants there. I would return to this resort at a different time of year than at Christmas. For Christmas I think I would take my family to a smaller adults only resort that still had a decent number of restaurants.

Food Not Good, Can't get reservation, Too much time spent on golf carts
The good-the grounds are beautiful. The not so good-after a very long day of travel it took us what felt like an hour to check in. We tried to get a dinner reservation but could not for the whole 5 days we were there so we had to settle for buffets. The food presentation was impressive but the food itself left a lot to be desired. The food was never hot or cold enough at the buffets. The wine was not very good either. The best food we had was at the sports bar Xtra Time. The resort was huge, I would say a mile end to end. The good beach was at one end while the good food was at the other. You can walk or take golf carts. Both are time consuming and not how I wanted to spend my time. The service was great the first day or so, then dwindle after that. It was a little too fancy for my taste and it all seemed like work with everything being so spread out. We would not go back or recommend.

Grand Palladium Family Christmas Trip
Really unfortunate there is a 2 tier system at resort, meaning there are great restaurants and activities you will not be able to access unless you are a family selection member. We would wake up at 06:30 and stand in a long line at the concierge desk to make restaurant reservations for 7 people- best we could do was 2 restaurants that weren’t on our list, with a 10 pm reservation. Lots of guests were unhappy with these issues- hopefully resort will come up with a better system- otherwise great stay

Christmas family vacation w/teens
We stayed in the Family Select area of this hotel (husband, myself & 2 teens) and while we didn't need the perks of this area (childcare, play areas, etc.), the advantage of having access to many a la carte restaurants and a butler to make the reservations was the reason we booked here. The check in wasn't as awe-inspiring as we have experienced at previous hotels (no one to greet us or offer a welcome drink when we arrived at 9pm), but it was relatively quick and we were in our room within 45 minutes. The La Hacienda buffet was still open when we arrived and we had a decent meal. This was the only time we ate at the buffet but the selection was good and the service was attentive. We had breakfast at The Nest (exclusive for Family Select members) every day and the staff was great even if the food was slightly inconsistent. We had two dinners at The Nest when our dinner reservations were not made in time and loved their lobster bisque. Shout out to Maria Uh, Willie, Alfonso & Enrique at The Nest - superstar servers!! We alternated our days between the beach, the main pool and the FS pool, but our favourite was the Family Select one because it was quieter, had great access to Es Nui restaurant and had Maria. There aren't enough great things to say about Maria at the pool: kind, fun, attentive.....if you are lucky enough to have her as your pool server, you are definitely in paradise. Aaron at the FS pool is also very attentive and making sure you have all you need. We tried 6-7 a la carte restaurants and our favourites were El Dorado (Jorge is great!), Teppanyaki and the Brazilian Steakhouse. We weren't fans of Poseidon, but it was chillier that night so weather could have impacted our experience. The Mexican restaurant also has a very eclectic menu which may not appeal to all. Huge shout out to our butler, Abraham......above and beyond all service we could ask for. This is a huge resort and there is room for improvement, but the workers are working hard, and are doing their very best. I loved that even though this is a resort with the opportunity to buy in, I didn't find anyone too pushy. If you said no, they respected the response. We had the opportunity to stay in two rooms; one in villa 51 and one in villa 40. I would say the level of attention was increased once in villa 40, but we never "suffered" prior to the change. If you like having access to my many areas of the resort, I would recommend upgrading to Family Select even if your children are older (mine are 15 & 17). Being able to get into The Nest, the FS beach area & pool made it worth it instead of being super crowded at the buffet (lines looked long during many dinner hours).
