Ongoing Love for Flamboyan on the Bay!
This year marks 32 years (and about 34 visits) that we have made to Flamboyan on the Bay (FOTB) and as usual, as soon as we get home we miss the place terribly. Full disclaimer - yes, we are timeshare owners there but as you can see below, we will not hesitate to mention any issues along with the things we love. When you 1st arrive at FOTB, the beauty and peace of the entry and pool area can overwhelm you. In an instant, you know you chose wisely and the view will help melt away any issues at home, any airline horrors, and a smile should start to creep across your face. After check-in, you'll head to your villa and enjoy the rooms that are, in our opinion, more spacious than the average room on STT. The rooms have been completely updated (or rebuilt in some cases) after the storms of '17. We love the new TVs with steaming capabilities and internet access. And should you need extra space for dining, there is a table on your patio that can be brought in or you can enjoy it own your balcony overlooking world famous Magen's Bay. Our average morning starts with a pot of coffee and walking out on the balcony to take in the view. From there, it's an easy walk up to Northside Grind - the onsite coffee shop but it's so much more. They have incredible sandwiches, salads, drinks and prepared foods. They also have provisioning items for the villas. Northside Grind is an oasis on those days you just don't want to cook or deal with anything. After all, you're on VACATION! The property has 2 beautiful pools. One is on the main deck and the other pool is on the lower level and more secluded and private. This is also a great venue should you want to hold a party or celebration. We've attended an few birthday parties there and these folks know how to party! The property also features the RooT42 restaurant that serves lunch and dinner during the week and a Sunday brunch. The food is excellent and we usually eat there 4 nights out of the week. To be able to check into a resort and spend most of our time onsite is a dream. There is also a gift shop that is a welcome addition to the property and it is still evolving so don't be surprised if a member off the Staff ask you what you'd like to see in the shop. In our opinion, FOTB is a true laid back, island resort that excels in its mission to show you a good time. The grounds are beautiful and it's easy to fall into the "island time" attitude during your stay. And yes - there are some issues that some folks might find annoying but please keep in mind, this is not a 5 star, $$$$$, all inclusive resort. Like many STT resorts, FOTB is on generators full time but they did require maintenance - so you may encounter a periodic outage. And water is a precious item in the islands, so you may not have the same pressure you do at home. But the Staff will help with any issues and work hard to make your vacation enjoyable. And speaking of the Staff - we cannot say enough great things. Lori, Tracy, Viola, Wanda, Patti and many others (apologies for not remembering everyones' names) are there to make your visit as great as possible. We've made life long friends there and these folks are sincere in their efforts to make you happy. And this Team worked hard to restore the resort after 2017 and make it even better. And they exceeded our expectations. The rooms are fully equipped with all plates, coffee pot, blender, microwave, small fridge and 2 burner range. The new split AC unit and ceiling fans will keep you cool even during the tropical summers. FOTB is the only resort on this side of the island and Magen's Bay beach is just around the corner. It's an easy walk downhill but the walk back can be steep. For the folks that want to walk down and grab an island taxi back, it's a fun day. And the beach has a bar, restaurant and gift shop. Please take a look at FOTB for your next island visit. We think you'll be pleased with the Staff, the grounds and accommodations, the restaurants and the great value for your vacation dollars. Cheers, L&J Miami Beach FL
Absolutely loved the Flamboyan! Rooms were clean, comfortable, and a good layout. Pool, restaurant, coffee shop well taken care of and easy to access. The best feature has to be the staff- all so friendly and responsive. Although we did experience a temporary electrical blackout as they have their own generator power supply, it was soon restored and did not impact us negatively.
Adorable Hilltop Villas
We loved staying at their villas. Our two-bedroom villa was clean and spacious, and had good amenities for our family of 4 (pots and pans, cups, toiletries, etc). The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The pools were clean, the food at the restaurant was good, and the staff were friendly. Parking was easy and on-site. The coffee shop was an absolute joy. The staff were really accommodating (we have a gluten allergy in our group) and their food and drinks were excellent. We would absolutely stay here again next time we are in St Thomas.
Do not Book This!
This resort forces you to book through Expedia which is a problem. Our trip was disrupted by an AA flight cancellation and a subsequent delay of THREE DAYS. As we only had a 6 day trip scheduled we had to return home. I immediately contacted both the resort and Expedia for the cancellation. What should have happened was Expedia contacts the resort and cancels and then the resort agrees to issue a refund. This according to the resort manager, who was OUT ON LEAVE when our trip was disrupted. So what do you think happened? First, I'm pretty sure Expedia lost my first contact, which was the day I returned home. I fought with them for weeks, where they finally communicated to me the resort denied the refund. Again the resort manager was out on leave so I'm pretty sure that didn't go as planned. I thought - no worries, we have trip insurance through Expedia. Surely trip insurance covers a flight disruption? Nope. It would have covered a hijacked plane! but not a significant delay from AA. So no insurance. I now sit here 3 months later - no refund, no insurance and no trip. I tried last resort disputing my credit card and Expedia once again has screwed me on that. DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT as they FORCE YOU TO BOOK THROUGH EXPEDIA!! Do not book through Expedia!! As an Expedia stockholder I'm disgusted by the overall experience and will be selling as soon as this market recovers.
Great except for the shower
We stayed here because of its location to Magens Bay. We are regulars to the USVI so we have realistic expectations of local hotels. Loved the views of Magens Bay from the balcony. Pool area was very nice. Parking was great. Really enjoyed everything about this hotel… except our shower didn’t have enough water pressure to wash our hair and we had no hot water. We didn’t mention it to front desk, we just made do the best we could. I still think we would stay here again
