Not a Fairmont Experience
We were booked here as part of a post cruise extension. We have stayed at many Fairmont hotels and this did not come close to our previous experience. We were in the oldest section of the hotel and our room was clean but the equivalent of a Hampton Inn. Nothing wrong with that chain, but when you spend extra $ you expect more. I would love to know what this photo is supposed to be? Not a balcony, no chair.Basic hair dryer, no magnifying mirror, just basic necessities. The grounds are pretty. Pool lounges are “taken” first thing in the morning and guests just come and go as they please between beach and pool making it difficult to get a spot to sit. We enjoyed the included buffet breakfast at Cana, and our one dinner there. We ate at the Italian place by the shops (which were mostly closed) and it was good, but nothing special. The staff was very nice though. I was not wowed and probably wouldn’t return.
NOT the quality of the Fairmont brand!
NOT the caliber of a Fairmont! Hotel is tired and in need of many updates. Bathroom in our room was beyond small. In order to close the door you basically had to be in the shower. View from our room looked out over the roof of the side building. Not what you expect when paying $700+ per night. On top of that our room was located behind the elevator bank (Room 526) so we heard the elevators running all day and throughout the night. Power went out 5 times during dinner at Meat Market Restaurant so we sat in the dark listening to the alarm for 5+ minutes each time. Pool area was very nice, but a huge negative that you had to reserve and pay for certain lounge chairs.
The Nail Bar & Dry Bar
Review is for their lobby stores. The nail bar and dry bar: Place was closed although, Google hours showed as open for service. No one in the hotel, from bell staff, concierge, front desk or neighboring stores in the promenade knew where they were operating for the day or not. I called no voicemail indicating hours of ops for the day. When short staffed (that's my assumption) look for ways to do and, communicate better.
Another great stay!
Second year in a row coming to the El San Juan with my wife and 20's kids for a 5 day getaway. Staff couldn't be nicer and more accommodating. We will come again...great stay!! A special shout out to Frances at reception who checked us in and gave us a great room!
