Three star hotel experience
Hotel was three star at most. Things we liked: Room was clean and comfortable, satisfactory. Comfy bed, good shower, no issues with hot water. Both pools were clean and enjoyable. Some food and drink was very good. Hourly shuttle to downtown. Close location to airport. Starbucks on site. Things we didn't like: exterior room door entrance and roosters crowing about 20 feet outside our door starting at 2:45 am and going all night long. Very poor sound insulation. No ability to run the room HVAC system on fan only continuously. Food choices very limited. Especially for breakfast. Quality of breakfast food was borderline poor. Bacon is the really thin pre-cooked stuff, home fries are frozen tater tots. Prices are very high for what you get. Had to go with Starbucks for breakfast after trying the hotel breakfast once. Hotel advertisements mentioned cabanas but they were all roped off when we were there. Not sure if you have to pay separately for use of cabanas or how that works. Resort fees are high and no idea why they even charge resort fees. I think the rooms were overpriced for what you get but possibly Key West is just overpriced. Had a nice time overall, great weather, some yummy drinks and fun downtown but I think I'll be going back to Fort Lauderdale next trip. We really enjoyed the pizza place downtown near the shuttle drop off point. Sit at the kitchen bar and watch them make pizzas and cook steak. Very enjoyable time and great food and key lime pie.

Great “Backyard” but Elevator needs work
We stayed here for 3 nights. Over all nice stay. We liked the pools in backyard area , along with pool table , ping pong , bag boards , swing , bocce and excellent drinks at the bar. The lobby is updated and pretty Shuttle service - is great. They pick you up near the Starbucks at top of hour and take you to heart of key west. They pick you up at bottom of the hour to bring you back to resort. You do need to reserve your spot at the front desk. Was easy to do. It can save you a bunch of parking money. DO NOT BUY SPF at their convenience shop. We saw a price of $50 for a bottle. Very convenient but way over priced. We checked in on Valentines and there was a card and two mini desserts waiting for us. Save your money on booking a bay room. The water is across the street and while pretty you keep your curtains closed most of the time. At least we did. Room - we had a king water view suite. Our living room area and bedroom were huge. Living area had a mini fridge , sink , Keurig . Small table , sofa , chair , acceptable size tv. Bedroom comfy bed , a chair to sit in , a steamer for clothes. Our bathroom was fine but I do believe the tub was from the early 80’s could definitely use a tub update. Service - front desk staff were okay but not stand out excellent service. We were there at 3:50 for 4:00 check in. She literally made me wait until the clock turned 4. Not a big deal but our room was clearly ready. Elevators SUCK. No other way to say it. The one near front doors sounds like it could break down at any minute and is slow. We were on the 6th floor. At check out the elevators did have issues and we had to lug our stuff down six flights of stairs. * one thing that really bugged me. This is considered high season. At the pool there were no spots to sit. This was NOT because of registered guests. It was because they have some kind of arrangement with a near by campground that they can use the facilities. So the chair beds were taken up by several groups of people who aren’t even staying there. If I’m paying 1,500 ish for 3 nights i should get first dibs on lounge chairs. Maybe offer that perk in low season or something. So while there were some minor issues. We would stay here again.

Nope nope nope
Our main stay was in Key Largo for the month of January. We came to Key West the morning of the 21st to board the ferry and did the day excursion to the Dry Tortugas. Rooms are pricey there, it was my hubby n I and 1 more friend going, so rather than have her pay for another room herself we decided we could all bunk together and I picked a room that was a double queen ocean view and had a separate area with a sofa, per the online representation. Figured that would give a bit of separation/privacy when needed. Not sure when i booked it but several months in advance I think. We had another friend decide to join so I called to add another room. I had to correct the guy several times, but he finally read everything back to me correctly and I paid for that room in full over the phone. I never checked the confirmation since he had personally read everything back correctly and then booked it, or so i thought. When we arrived they only had 1 room reserved for us, the original online booking. Went to check my confirmation and low and behold-that booking had been made for mid December. Not happy asked if they were full and the response was ‘pretty full’ and never offered another room. Then they proceeded to tell me I needed to pay another $90 for one night of parking and another $80 or so for taxes..so at this point I’ve spent $500ish on this room. Trying to think positive and not let it ruin our trip, I figure that one dbl queen w/that sofa and privacy area we should still be ok even if its a bit awkward. But then…we open our room and its just barely big enuf for the two beds that I’m not sure were even queen beds and a bathroom with a sliding door (no seal for sound or scent) and the outside door to the room doesn’t even seal…I also realize that we were charged for the room in mid December so that takes this inadequate booking up to around $800. I tried to start an online conversation hoping to get a manager or something but it was the same girl who couldn’t care less, that I had checked in with. She kept trying to tell me the second booking was made online and it was my mistake-still had the confirmation number written down at home from our phone conversation tho so thats weird huh? Worst hotel EVER.

Dont stay here!!
My partner and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon, paying over $700 for one night with the expectation of a premium and reliable experience. Upon arrival, however, we were informed that our reserved room was not available and that we would be relocated to the sister property, Fairfield Key West. This was extremely disappointing and unacceptable, particularly given the price and the special occasion. The alternative accommodation is not comparable in quality, standard, or overall experience. Fairfield Key West is a three-star motel, which does not align with the level of comfort and service we had specifically selected and paid for. What was even more concerning was the manner in which the situation was handled. We did not feel genuinely assisted or prioritized as guests. When we later returned to the original hotel, there were multiple other guests in the lobby facing the same issue, indicating that this may be a recurring practice rather than an isolated mistake. Relocating honeymoon guests who have paid a premium rate to a lower-category property without prior notice is highly unprofessional. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend booking this hotel, as there appears to be a real risk of being downgraded despite paying for a higher-end stay.

Beautiful Grounds & Lobby, Great Staff
The Blue Flamingo Resort is several miles from the heart of Key West, but the price made it attractive. The parking fee was waived since we booked directly with the hotel. To get to Old Town, we used a ride share once, took the free shuttle 3 times, found free parking one day, and used a pay lot on another day. There is a $50 per day resort fee, but we also received one $50 credit which was used for a breakfast at the poolside Toasted Coconut Restaurant (very pleasant location and service). We ate breakfast at the on-site Starbucks one morning, and walked to the nearby McDonald's for another breakfast. The grounds are beautiful with a pretty pool and lots of games like a big chess set, cornhole, billiards, etc. We didn't take advantage of any of these. Every staff member that we encountered was friendly and accommodating. When we first entered the room, my husband said, "This looks like a cheap motel room!" I'm sensitive to smells, and I didn't like the stale smell of this room. We did have views of the ocean across the street from the hotel. If I were to re-visit Key West, I would probably stay in Old Town to be closer to the activities there.
