    Excellent Hotel

I like everything about hotel El Embajador. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and always smiling. This is my favorite hotel in Santo Domingo, the location is the best for me. The room has a lot of space and offer all that I need, like blower. steamer for clothes, even a wood comb for men that I never use but I like it, and many other things.

    Good property, bad service.

Staff appears not interested in serving guests. It is very difficult to obtain a timely response to emails and calling proved to be impossible. We could not even get our luggage delivered to our room. Nobody seemed to care about anything.

Destination Wedding at the El Embajador

In March 2024 I was able to host my destination wedding at the El Embajador and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Not living in the Dominican Republic, Angelica the hotel wedding planner was always responsive and made sure all my questions and concerns were answered. The planning was easy and seamless. The food for our cocktail, reception and late snack were amazing, our guest couldn’t stop talking about it. The team even were able to make two dishes from our home country. The hotel accommodations were amazing, the rooms, the spa, pool and restaurant were all great and perfect! The El Embajador is a great choice to make sure all your guest traveling for your wedding are comfortable. I’m so grateful for Angelica and all the team of the El Embajador for the exceptional service which allowed me to enjoy my wedding and the week I had spent there.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! NOT A FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE. POOR, STRESFUL EXPERIENCE. THEY DESTROYED OUR BREAK. THE ONLY THING THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY, NO INTEREST TO DELIVER A SERVICE. SHAME ON YOU! The PROS: 1- rooms exactly as in the pictures 2- clean 3- great location 4- good facilities The CONS: 1- rude staff, not attentive, everything they do for you is PLAIN WRONG AND POOR EXPERIENCE 2- no one speaks basic english except the front reception staff. So, ordering water, drinks, food, taxi or even asking for simple things is a CHALLENGE. I understand not everyone would need to speak english, however, I expect that the client facing staff in a 5 star hotel do SPEAK BASIC ENGLISH 3- the operation of the hotel is 1* at best. I would give 0 if I could DETAILS: 1- arrived Saturday after a very long flight. The front office check in was VERY slow. No electronic receipts, everything had to be printed, take photocopies of our IDs and print them, we had to sign every single paper although we booked online and gave a credit card online for the booking 2- went for lunch to the restaurant inside the hotel, the moment the staff realised we do not speak spanish they ignored us. We tried to communicate, but no luck. At some point I had to grab someone from their arm to waive at them that we want to eat and we sat on a table on our own. 3- 1st night there was a party at a club next to our room. We called the reception to tell them that this is too loud and understand what time that will finish. They said they;d call us back. At 00:00 we called again. They said they would call us back. at 00:30 they send someone in our room. The guy seemed like an engineer holding screwdrivers on his hands. He then entered the room and switched off our lights! We were scared and confused. He spoke no English. We showed him the door, got dressed and went to reception. Asked why no one has called us to tell us what is happening with the party and the music, and also why they sent this man to our room. Obviously that was a mistake, however, no apology or acknowledgement of poor service. 4- at 01:00 we changed rooms as the music was still very loud. We transfered all our staff from one room to the other and went to sleep finally. 5- next day it was my friend's birthday. After a great tour around the city we went to the hotel pool to relax and have a drink. We attempted to order drinks at the pool bar. There were 4 people serving, no one spoke any single word in english (again, dont want to have a meaningful conversation, just order a drink!). I managed (I thought at least) to order 2 drinks and water and tell them our room number. I saw the waiter writing down our order correctly. After 30 mins the order has not arrived, I went back to the pool bar. The guy I ordered to was gone. I tried to explain that I am waiting for drinks and water. Ordered again with the 4 words I know in Spanish. The order eventually arrived! 6- after a couple of hours one of the waiters comes over and speaks to us in Spanish. we keep repeating in Spanish that we dont speak the language. The first waiter leaves. The second waiter comes back, same scene. They speak to us in spanish, we keep repeating we speak no spanish so we could not understand what they were telling us. The third waiter comes next. Same scene again. At some point we realise they ask us to pay the bill. We show them the room number. They do not seem to get it. We do not seem to get what they want. Then a security guard appears, speaks some english. He says you need to pay your bill. We explain we have no cards with us and they should charge the room. He becomes aggressive saying we have to pay now. We pay with our iphones (thank god for Apple pay!) 7- we go to the hotel manager Ventura Serra and complain that the behaviour of the staff and experience so far is APPALLING! She apologises to my friend (who had her birthday that day and they ruined it for us), and promised to fix our experience. She explained that the issue was that they have not recorded the room change that happened overnight. AGAIN I DONT SEE HOW THAT WAS OUR FAULT. She sent us fruit as an apology. Too little in my opinion 8- The next day we decided to book a tour by using their Guest Experience Manager, Yasaret Cortorreal. Terrible experience, no professionalism, zero client service - read here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g659488-d16592047-r944821920-Vacaciones_Barcelo-Riviera_Maya_Yucatan_Peninsula.html 9- Every night the door key did not work. We had to go back for it to be re-set. The last night, Victor from the front desk told me that when we reset keys we need to bring both of them together not every time one of the keys to be reset as if they reset one key, the other gets cancelled. I explained to him that we always bring them both as we always try both key cards and they dont work. No apology or admission that their poor operating model and the company operating the hotel is simply inadequate and not 5 star. 10- the 2nd day we decided to go for breakfast. that was clearly a mistake. We went to the front staff, said the word breakfast - no response. They wouldn't understand. we put google translator on. They ignored us. We sat on a table on our own and ignored them. Went to the omellette station waiting in line to order my omelette. everyone in the line was spanish speaking except me. When my turn came, I was ignored and they moved on to the next person. Blantly, plainly completely ignored as if I was not there!!!! I complained, the staff was looking at me and smiling. A kind lady in the queue who understood english did the translation for me and I managed to order. OVERALL THE EXPERIENCE IS AS FOLLOWS - WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG, OR DOESN'T WORK IT IS THE GUEST'S FAULT. THE ROOM CHANGE HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED IN THE SYSTEM, IT WAS OUR FAULT FOR ASKING TO CHANGE ROOMS. THERE WAS NO CREDIT CARD ON FILE FOR OUR STAY, IT WAS OUR FAULT WE DIDN'T GIVE ONE AT CHECK IN (NOT THEIR FAULT FOR NOT ASKING) THE DOOR KEYS DIDN'T WORK, IT WAS OUR FAULT BECAUSE WE SHOULD ALWAYS BRING BOTH KEYS TO BE RESET TOGETHER. AND WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT WE ALWAYS BRING BOTH KEYS, SILENCE. NO ONE SPEAKS A SINGLE WORD IN ENGLISH, HOWEVER, WHEN THEY HAVE TO QUOTE PRICES EVERYONE KNOWS HOW TO DO THAT IN US DOLLARS!!!! YOU ARE JUST A DOLLAR BILL WITH LEGS FOR THEM. NOTHING ELSE. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY HAPPILY, BUT DON'T FEEL OBLIGED TO DELIVER A DECENT SERVICE. NEVER FELT AS SCAMMED AS WITH THESE GUYS. SHAME ON YOU!
