Waterfront heaven
Surf sounds! Waterfront! Where else can you fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves at this price? We are in 302 and our view is marvelous! The place is a little shabby around the edges but dinner under a palapa on the beach and the kindness of staff makes up for it. My advice for dinner is to order an entree a la carte and supplement with a salad and salsa from the buffet. We miss the jicama sticks with salt and lime they used to bring to the table but the cucumber and carrot ribbons were a close substitute. I forgot my flip flops and picked up a nice pair in the lobby shop for nine bucks. Nancy couldn’t have been sweeter. Talking to Roberto at the Tours desk tomorrow. We’ve already emailed about our preferences and he greeted us at check in. I love this place.

Good for 3.5 star rated resort
Arrived with 1 week all inclusive vacation package but I had to pay extra $92US for the environmental fee. The sea side restaurant is a buffet type that does not have much choice of the food. You can order from the menus but it takes 20 to 30 minutes. I had to ask for fruits each time, took a while and they do not seem to be happy to serve them. You can book dinners at the other restaurant that can only be done 8am each morning for the same day reservation. Room does not have a refrigerator, our bathroom had broken towel hanger, chair in the room is breaking apart. The bed is comfortable than the look. Small sandy beach area next to the restaurant/pool where you can snorkel and see many fishes. Pools are nice, jacuzzi is good but wish the water is warmer. No nightly entertainment here so need to go elsewhere. Good for the family for 3.5 star rated hotel price.

Stunning views and beach
Definitely would return for the beach. The snorkeling right off beach was amazing, perfect clear water and tons of fish. No reason to have to take a snorkeling tour as you will see more fish here. All the rooms have an amazing ocean view- the higher the better. But the rooms are very dated- adequate but old. One side of resort is closed for renovation so hopefully updates are coming. The food is their downfall . Buffet has very small selection but you can order off menu which has quite a few good selections- Definitely recommend ordering off menu. Food does get montenous after while Didn't try their one reservation only restaurant as it had same menu everynight- I think Italian. Staff were wonderful and did an amazing job . They work very hard Especially Paulino and Santiago ! Overall nice clean older resort with an amazing beach. Worth staying and will return

#1 for relaxation
I'm giving El Cozumeleno 4 stars because it really grew on us. You have to go in with the mindset of VERY LOW expectations to come out with a great experience. Here's my tea: If all you want to do is relax and do nothing, this is the place. The hotel is very clean. The pools and surrounding area are well maintained. The staff is mostly friendly. It is true that the room decor is tired, maybe literally from 1987. It is true that the room shower is a challenge; turn one knob opposite, maybe don't touch the other knob. But we got hot showers. It is true that the pool is only heated by the sun, so a bit chill until you get used to it. It is true that the two "hot tubs" are barely lukewarm, so kinda useless. It is true that you eat for sustenance, not flavor or delight. (The waffles and oatmeal are literally inedible). I do not think this is a place for kids as there is almost nothing for them to do here. We really enjoyed it because our literal mission was to look out at the ocean, enjoy the sounds of the waves and do nothing for several days. What we found most interesting was the few couples we met with like stories; staying there for an entire month, been coming every year for 18 years, come down 3x/yr for the last 12 years. So, the hotel has MANY returning patrons. That speaks volumes. I also started to feel like there were secret codes. Like, you don't have to eat the buffet in the main dining...there's a separate menu from the QR code on the napkin dispensers. You can order food from the waitstaff and they will bring it to you on the beach or your poolside chair. Scroll all the way down the online menu and ah...there's the specialty drinks; which are watered down, just order a side shot to pour in and you're good to go. Yes, people wait in line every morning to get a reservation in La Veranda (primarily 7-9 pm), which turns a bit fancier at night with a dress code. If you're willing to eat at 6 or 6:30, just walk up to the desk after the line is gone around 8:30 am and you should get a spot. The food in there was beautifully presented and MUCH better/tastier than their normal fare. We brought a lot of cash, singles and fives to tip $1-$2 wait staff for every meal and housekeeping each morning. Cash is king on the island. We did not exchange for pesos, but wish we had b/c we think we overpaid for some things. The hotel also has onsite photographers. It's true that you get one photo for free. You can add on extra for $11 or buy an entire package. We added on one photo and there was ZERO pressure to buy more. The free photo is literally the best photo my husband and I have had (aside from some fav wedding ones) in 23 years of marriage. The sunset in the background was beautiful. So again, go in with low expectations on a mission to do nothing and relax and this place will really grow on you.

Great resort for family’s!
We spent 4 days at the resort. The view from the rooms are amazing. The housekeeping staff were so nice and hardworking ! They even had a towel animal on our bed . The beach was amazing. The only flaw was the food. You will find something to eat but it was just ok. I would return again .
