Good Experience in La Romana, Closer to 3.5 Stars
3.5/5 My girlfriend and I stayed at Secrets La romana earlier this month for 5 nights. We booked through American Express Travel and stayed in a Preferred King Club Room w/ swimout pool. It was my girlfriend’s first all inclusive experience, and my second. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but felt like some context is necessary for the 3.5 star rating. Room: Room itself was great. Plenty of space for the 2 of us, clean, and a re-stocked mini fridge every time the room was cleaned. We were not supposed to have this room but got upgraded on check in which was a nice touch. The property felt very quiet, with very little noise that you could hear once settled in your room. Just a note, room was not ready at 1PM when we checked in, but was ready at 3PM. The air was PUMPING in the beginning, and we realized why. If you don’t have the fan pumping all of the time, your clothes will be damp from the humidity/weather. “Preferred”: We booked “preferred” based on booking through Amex travel. There was a preferred pool and a preferred section on the beach. Being able to access the preferred pool made this worth it. We spent almost everyday at the preferred pool and weren’t scrambling for chairs at 10AM, unsure if you can say the same thing at the non-preferred pool. The beach was another story. The preferred and non-preferred sections basically combined, and the one day we tried to get chairs on the beach was a struggle. The beach section was much louder, with a DJ starting up at noonish on the beach, that also was right near the non-preferred pool making that noisy as well. Other than that pool perk though, the “preferred” didn’t get you a ton more. There were a couple restaurants that were preferred only for breakfast/lunch if. There was a private preferred “lounge” where you checked in that had some snacks, desserts, a bar etc. Finally, you get 10% off at the spa being preferred, but check beforehand what applies to that discount. We did a “package that was already discounted” per the people at checkout... Bars: Great, 0 complaints. Large cocktail menus throughout the property, drinks were not watered down, knowledgeable bartenders. Food/Restaurants: We went in with medium expectations for the food on property. We saw all of the different restaurants on both the Secrets and Dreams (family-friendly) side and thought we would be fine for 5 nights. Overall, we were over the food by day 4. We went to Noor (Indo-Mediterranean) the first night which was fine. We went to Sakura (asian) twice, once for sushi (disappointing) and one for non-sushi (decent) and Maravento (italian) on the Dreams side. They would not let us sit outside at Maravento unless we bought a bottle of wine (?), which already rubbed us the wrong way. The breakfast buffet was fine, but our one complaint came during the pool/lunch hours. Very few options to take to go and lay by the pool, and you can't order any food to be delivered to the pool. You either had to sit down and have a meal somewhere, or grab a mediocre hot dog/burger/tacos from people grilling on the beach. We would have loved some chicken tenders, chips and guacamole, grilled chicken sandwich, something like that. We also tried the lunch buffet and were confused why there was seafood, beef brisket, and a total lack of lighter options. The “preferred” lounge didn’t have anything special that the rest of the property did not have. We paid the $10 for room service the final night which also really wasn't that great, but it was worth it to have options like BLTs, chicken quesadillas, nachos. One other thing, you do not "dine" at these restaurants. The dinners are quick and the restaurants we went to were very casual. This was really what kept the trip from being 4-5 stars. Spa: We got a couples massage partially because we had a 100 dollar resort credit to use via Amex. It was $295 dollars for 1 hour massages and 1 hour to use the facilities (sauna, hot tubs, pool etc.). The massages were good, facilities were nice. Not sure if worth the full price tag but we enjoyed. Activities/The Rest: We did a 1 hour snorkeling “trip” that was located on the Secrets beach. Took a boat out to a coral reef and spent an hour out in the sea seeing all kinds of fish. Note: you can reserve masks for free and swim out (and probably see nothing), but this 1 hour snorkel session cost $30 per person (and was worth it, IMO). We played some sunset tennis (have to reserve in advance on the Dreams side beach to get on the court) one day, gorgeous facility and regret not doing it a second time. There is only one fitness center combined on the property and it’s also on the dreams side. It was packed at 9AM (you may not get on a treadmill) and could use an update. Finally, we went into the casino which was funny. It’s open from 7PM-2AM, and when we walked in at 8:30 we were 2 of 7 people in the place. Good entertainment for the little time we were in there, may get rowdier at night. Overall, we had a good trip. It was a total mixed bag when it came to all of the expectations we had. We had fantastic weather, great service, nice cocktails and the preferred pool was excellent. The food, the beach area, the upselling and some of the activity options kept this from being a higher review.

Best entertainment team ever!
Best entertainment team ever! We had such a blast at Secrets La Romana, mostly thanks to the incredible entertainment team. They really made our vacation! We loved starting our mornings with yoga and stretching, and the daily Zumba was amazing—the energy was just through the roof. We also had a great time doing arts and crafts, and the evening shows were always a treat. A huge thank you to Maria, Yuliana and Esteban for being so sweet and making us feel so welcome, though honestly, the whole staff was super nice. They really go the extra mile to make sure everyone is having a good time. Can’t wait to come back!

Lovely Time in Paradise
My husband and I stayed for 6 days, 5 nights. We had a great time. Highlights: Dinner at NOOR. The chef is from India, some of the best Indian food I’ve had outside of India. Scores Sports Bar. Pool and tv’s with variety of European/latin soccer and US sports. Big hit for my husband to get his football fix in. Great specialty cocktails. Preferred Club Pool and Beach. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Especially enjoyed Olga, Raul and Roselyn. Never had to reserve a chair early, plenty to go around. The water and beach is stunning, a light aqua color and sooo warm. We had so much enjoying the great swim area. Things to note that we felt could be improved: 1) Size of rooms, found them to be a tad small. 2) breakfast and lunch menu items for preferred were lacking and not our favorite. These things by no means ruined our amazing vacation. Overall would recommend, and would book again in the future. If you don’t enjoy being around children don’t venture to the dreams restraunt, beach or pool.

Hand on the Heart
If you want to see paradise on earth, I sincerely recommend traveling to the Dominican Republic and staying at Secrets La Romana Resort. My son and I stayed there from December 14 to December 21, 2025, and it was one of the most wonderful trips we’ve ever had. The weather was absolutely perfect: gentle sunshine that wasn’t too strong, around 82°F, a warm and calm ocean with no jellyfish or seaweed, and fine, soft sand like powder. Swimming and simply relaxing on the beach was an absolute pleasure. What I especially loved was the unique combination of high-level service with local charm and authenticity. Unlike “synthetic” resorts, this place truly lets you feel the real Dominican Republic — warm, vibrant, and full of soul. The service was outstanding. Dominicans are incredibly kind and welcoming people. They greet you in such a touching way, placing their hand over their heart. For me, this gesture became a true symbol of the entire vacation — a heartfelt getaway, where along with excellent service you genuinely connect with the hearts of these wonderful people.
