Disappointing Thanksgiving Stay at The Diplomat Beach Resort – Misleading Information and Unresolved Issues

My family has stayed at The Diplomat Beach Resort Hollywood several times a year and it’s long been one of our favorite properties. As loyal members of multiple hotel programs (including Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, Omni Select, and Unity), we value consistency and reliability, especially for our annual Thanksgiving tradition. This year, however, our experience was extremely disappointing due to misleading information provided by the hotel and poor follow-through on a billing issue.Prior to booking, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, I called the resort directly and spoke with a reservations agent. I specifically asked if all pools, activities, and amenities—including the kids’ area and slide—were fully open and operational for a potential stay around Thanksgiving. I was assured that everything was open and available, and that the kids’ area and slide had simply been relocated near the cabanas.Based on this confirmation, we proceeded with our reservation. Upon arrival, we were shocked to discover that we had been completely misinformed. Only the upper infinity pool was accessible (and it was even closed for part of the day due to weather), with no kids’ area, slide, or relocated play space anywhere to be found. The other pools and surrounding areas were closed for heavy construction and renovation. Had we known the truth about these significant limitations—especially as a family traveling with a young child—we would have chosen a different resort entirely. To make matters worse, with limited activities available, our 5-year-old son grew bored in the room and accidentally made a $30 purchase using the TV remote (we still don’t know exactly what it was). We immediately contacted the front desk to report the accidental charge and requested it be removed. We were told a manager would review it and follow up with us. To date, despite the stay ending weeks ago, we have received no callback or resolution. We’ve always enjoyed our previous visits to The Diplomat, but this Thanksgiving experience fell far short of expectations, largely due to inaccurate pre-stay information and lack of accountability. Transparency about ongoing renovations (which appear to be extensive based on the resort’s own notices) is essential for guests planning family vacations. We hope the management addresses these issues, as it has diminished our enthusiasm for returning.

    Awesome experience!

Was here for a conference but also enjoyed time with loved ones. The staff were wonderful and the accommodations were excellent with a beautiful ocean view. Gorgeous lobby, great food and longes and close to restaurants and shops. Loved the experience. Would highly recommend!

    Outstanding Beyond His Years

Gabriel G. consistently goes above and beyond every time I arrive at The Diplomat. He welcomes me warmly upon each visit and immediately sets a positive tone for my stay. Although valet services are operated by a separate company, Gabriel takes personal pride in ensuring that my overall experience at the property is seamless and enjoyable. What makes Gabriel especially impressive is that, at just 19 years old, he carries himself with the professionalism, insight, and judgment of someone far beyond his years. He is attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in guest experience. He remembers returning guests, anticipates needs, and handles every interaction with maturity and care. Gabriel is a standout and a true asset. His work ethic and demeanor reflect the very best of hospitality, and he deserves recognition.

Diplomat excellent employees make an excellent experience!!!

Diplomat has some excellent employees who go above and beyond. Chevelle at the front desk is delightful and well informed. Gloria at the front desk was quick and patient when resolving an issue. Gabriel in valet was amazing in providing assistance with the ebikes. Those three made our visit!!!

    Bait and switch

Came for meeting and booked an extension to spend our limited family vacation time here. Rooms fine. Service fine. Lovely location. Only one pool open. Lagoon pool and splash pad seen in photos and reviews closed (perhaps permanently?). Lots of construction noise/rerouting. Advertised al fresco breakfast unavailable (indoor only). Renovations, temporary inconveniences, and changes to offerings are obviously reasonable, but there was no notice at reservation confirmation, on hotel website or Hilton app, at check in, or at any point besides when we had one parent with 2 kids loaded and roaming in search of the splash pad that things were operating any differently from how the property was advertised. Valet retrieval via text as indicated on ticket received no response, so called down and told the text system was unreliable, then still had to wait for car for a while after it took us many minutes to mobilize the crew to the lobby. Requested to check out a day early to stay somewhere with more services available as Diamond Honors member and was told we would have to pay an early departure fee equal to the total reservation. Requested late checkout then and advised $50/hour fee. Truly unacceptable representation of the brand and would have absolutely chosen a different property had completely predictable deviations from expected facilities and services been transparently disclosed at any point prior to attempting to use.
