Not the best experience
At first sight this guest house looked ideal for a family stop before a visit to Legoland. Rooms were clean and spacious. On the negative side the showers were poor in the en-suite we had. The one in the shared bathroom ( all en suites had been sold out) was a safety hazard. Luckily I didn’t use it for the children as it went from cold to scalding hot in seconds with no rhyme or reason. The toilet was dirty (as in not been properly cleaned). Doors were constantly slamming shut due to the door fittings. Adding this to a less than comfortable bed resulted in a poor nights sleep. There was absolutely no contact with the hosts other than through an intercom. Perhaps the latter is the sad state of the “hospitality” industry.

Good location for early airport get away, but tired, dated and bereft of any REAL customer service.
Stayed overnight here due to having an early flight out of nearby Heathrow the following morning, as I'm sure 90% of people who stay have similar plans. I'll start with some positives; Free and ample parking space Location is ok and distance to the airport is just 12 minutes. We managed to find a nearby Chinese takeaway (using Trip Advisor of course!) and ate in the room, which was made super easy as the room was very well equipped with plates, cutlery, microwave & fridge. Sadly, that's where the good points cease... We never actually physically met a member of staff - communication upon arrival was via intercom only and this felt very ambiguous and detached. Hardly what I'd consider welcoming. Due to our early start, we wanted a relatively early night (9.30 or so), however these plans were scuppered as the walls appeared to be paper-thin. The adjacent room had a VERY noisy family whose conversation could be heard as if they were sat next to you and their children were jumping from bed to bed for a good 3 hours solid, with seemingly no regard of this from the adults. This continued until 1am. Due to a complete overview by myself (hands up, I missed it when booking...) The shared bathroom was grubby and very urgently needs updating as does the room we stayed in (Room 10). There was no clear check- out procedure, I called the mobile number from the booking I'd made and was told to "just walk out and leave your key in the door" - I didn't particularly feel comfortable with this at all as to me, this presents opportunities for contentious/erroneous damage allegations Overall, bitterly disappointed.

Disappointing, to say the least.
When I hear the words “guest house” they conjure up for me a homely place to stay and a warm welcome from a friendly and obliging host who’ll introduce me to the property, show me my room, be there for me, and serve up a tasty cooked breakfast in the morning. Debden Guest House is not like that. I wouldn’t call it a guest house. What they offer is rooms, no more, no less. There is none of the ambience one would expect of a guest house. There was no personal welcome from my host upon my arrival. Instead, a voice speaking over an intercom gave me my room number and told me that my keys were in the door and the toilet was up the stairs. And that was my stark introduction to the place. I had expected, mistakenly, that my room would have its own shower/wc so I was surprised that I had to share one with four other rooms. I had also expected breakfast to be provided. I looked in vain for a dining room and, finding none, concluded that I’d been mistaken and that there’d be no cooked breakfast in the morning. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable. But the décor was tired, drab and dated. The wall lights didn’t work, and the ceiling light and bedside lamps alone were not bright enough for me to read by. The TV remote control didn’t work either, but the controls on the television itself enabled me to make use of it, after a fashion. If my room was drab and dated, the décor in the public area was far worse. The walls, ceilings and carpets in the hallway and up the stairs can only be described as grim, and are in dire need of a complete makeover. I shall not be staying there again.

Convenient, comfortable and very helpful staff.
A comfortable family room that was clean throughout. Basic amenities including a fridge, microwave, hot drink making facilities and a television and a set of clean, fresh towels. Rather than drive to Heathrow airport super early, we stayed here the night before departure leaving our car at the guesthouse (for a reasonable fee). They advised on a good company to taxi us to the airport and everything went smoothly. Communication was excellent. I recommend this guesthouse particularly for those planning on travelling to the airport.

Traditional B&B
Good comfortable traditional b&b. Good size single room with al practical amenities. Very competitively priced. Will stay again if local. Or go slightly out my way 20-30 miles. Polite and friendly people.
