Couples Negril – December 2024 – A Mixed Bag
We stayed at Couples Negril for seven nights in December 2024. While the resort had some great highlights, the overall experience didn’t fully meet our expectations in a few key areas. Arrival Upon arriving in Montego Bay, we took advantage of the resort’s complimentary shuttle service. The shuttle van was cramped, and the bumpy, two-plus-hour journey to the resort made for an uncomfortable beginning to our vacation. Accommodations The resort felt more modest than expected for a four-star or five-star property. It consists of several three-story buildings without elevators, which could pose challenges for guests with mobility concerns. Additionally, the property shows visible signs of wear and tear, which detracts from its overall charm. Our initial room was a spacious beachfront suite in Building 9. Unfortunately, persistent noise from nearby generators disrupted our stay. After a day, the staff was accommodating and relocated us to a quieter suite. The Beach The beach was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip. The calm, turquoise waters and soft, rock-free sandy bottom made it one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever visited. It was ideal for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the serenity of the Caribbean. Entertainment The Silver Birds steel orchestra was amazing but in general, the entertainment options at Couples Negril were underwhelming and lacked the energy and variety we’ve experienced at other resorts. Activities and Sports We did, however, enjoy some of the complimentary activities offered by the resort. The private tennis lessons and group tennis clinics were excellent, and the opportunity to try hobie cat sailing and windsurfing added to the fun. Restaurants Dining at Couples Negril was a mixed experience: • Private Beach Dining: Using resort credit, we arranged a private beach dining experience, which was exceptional and one of the most memorable parts of our stay. • Breakfast: We typically dined at the Cassava Terrace buffet. While the food was decent, the selection was limited compared to five-star resorts in Mexico. Some items were not replenished promptly, which was disappointing. • Lunch: The Beach Grill provided fairly good lunch options, and we particularly enjoyed the daily self-serve soup station located near the ice cream machine. • Dinner: For dinner, we alternated between OtaHeite, Lychee, and Cassava Terrace. While there was a good variety of dishes, the quality was inconsistent—some meals were fantastic, while others fell short. Service The service at Couples Negril was one of the most disappointing aspects of our stay. Having stayed at several five-star resorts in Mexico, we had higher expectations. Unfortunately, many staff members appeared to do the bare minimum, and beach-side drink service was virtually non-existent. On multiple occasions, we encountered indifferent attitudes throughout the resort. One notable exception was Romano at the Front Desk, who went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. His attentiveness was a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster service experience. A more consistent, proactive approach from the staff would go a long way in elevating the guest experience. Final Thoughts Couples Negril offers a stunning beach and a tranquil, tropical setting, but it falls short in terms of service, dining quality, and overall polish. While we enjoyed certain aspects of our stay, it may not fully satisfy the expectations of travelers accustomed to high-end, luxury resorts.

Great resort, Bad bus trip
This was our first time at a Couples resort and our first time in Jamaica. The resort was great. The food was very good. The beach and water were perfect. The staff was great. The activities were good. But, the bus ride from the airport to the resort was HORRIBLE. It took us over 4 hours to get from the airport to the resort, including 3 hours for just the first few miles in Montego Bay. Couples obviously has no control over traffic, so I don't hold it against them at all, I just want to make people aware that sometimes the traffic can be a nightmare. From what the bus driver told us, this has a tendency to happen on Monday evenings (when we flew in) and Friday evenings, so please avoid those times at all costs. I wish we had known. Our drive told us our trip was the worst he had seen, but that he had other trips that were over 3 hours during those times. But... once we got to the resort, everything was great! The bus ride didn't ruin our trip at all.

LOVED EVERY SECOND AT COUPLES NEGRIL
We loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND of being at Couples Negril. My husband and I have never been to Jamacia and let us say it will most certainly not be our last. From the second the shuttle picked us up at the airport, to the second we stepped off the resort to head home, it was paradise. The food and drink were AMAZING- an option for everyone at all times of the day. Even when relaxing on the beach, workers would come up to you and ask if you would like a drink delivered- seriously paradise! The service was SPECTACULAR-- all the workers were so friendly and personable. Room service was fantastic and came to clean our room multiple times a day. The rooms were spacious and very nice/clean. We also very much enjoyed the activities the resort has. Included in the price for staying, my husband and I were able to paddleboard, go on a beautiful sunset cruise, and take an excursion for a glass-bottom boat cruise. There were so many more things to explore, including scuba diving. In addition to this, there were so many fun events that the staff put on for us guests at the resort. We participate din BINGO, pumpkin carving, and even casino night! There is seriously not one bad thing about this resort. My husband and I are already planning our next trip back to Couples Negril next year!!!!!! I typically don't ever write reviews, but for how amazing this place is, I had to. If you are even thinking of booking, do it- you will not regret it :)

Another Amazing Visit
The food and accommodations and activities are a solid 5, however the nightly entertainment, has gotten very repetitive. We used to enjoy the opportunity to dance, but it just wasn’t there this time. We are tired of hearing old music that has been way overdone. The Silver Birds are still a very entertaining group, they change their music up, adding new twists to their show. It would be really nice to see some Reggae bands doing their own music. The bars were very well run with staff being alert to the needs of the customers. Our favourite place to hang before dinner was the “Beach Bar”. The tennis pro does his best to accommodate the lessons, but the courts need some major resurfacing to help support his program. The visiting pro did an amazing job, he was great teacher. Lovely staff working at this resort.

Great service
Great resort, beautiful beach, great food. The activities included are fantastic, snorkeling, Alex and crew were amazing, catamaran cruise was so much fun. Even just relaxing on the beach we were treated to exceptional service with drinks from our server Shanice, what a star!
