Very good experience. The resort overall is imerse in the nature, alot of trees and animals, i loved it. One thing the hotel should get better is to change more often the sunflower oil or whatever oil they use the frie food
The beach is where it's at!
Overall we had a great time, it is a beautiful location set in a lush jungle and the beach was our favourite place to be. The food was ok, not the best, and their booking system messed up a couple times for the a la cartes. We stayed in the 'privileged' section though it didn't seem much different to what the regular benefits were. We also had booked the romance package which was nice, included a nice dinner on the beach. The only downfall here was that it also included champagne and treats in your room upon arrival which is nice, but when we finally got to our room there was ants everywhere, all over the food that was left out. Feels like there should be a better system with that, maybe don't deliver the treats until after the guests have checked in because it instantly threw us off to the state of our room. And then the room itself was really dated, a stuffy bathroom complete with black mold. I'm not sure I'd want to see what the non 'privileged' rooms look like. A couple times we had to ask multiple times for things, like someone to come clean up the ant mess and then our room would get cleaned with no towels left behind. And the other big thing was the smoking, so much smoking. To each their own, but we believe in a beautiful location such as this, in the jungle, by the sea, there should be non-smoking areas. The amount of cigarette butts we saw on the ground, again in such a beautiful atmosphere, was really disheartening. The last plus we want to add was the event staff, they were fantastic!! They were always on and making sure that guests were having a fun time, they are a great bunch of friendly and fun people!!
We had a great time in Catalonia Playa Maroma. The Resort was fabulous, the staff also. The beach was wow! Food can be more varied. Drinks were very good. Everywhere very clean and well maintained. We liked the Aromes coffee place and natural juice hut so much.
Came here with 3 friends and we all had a great time! We did a day excursion to the Mayan ruins, cenote and swimming with turtles. Our tours guides were great, especially Jose (we didn’t actually book through the hotel though). We then went on a catamaran trip to isla mujeres, Abraham was our guide, he made sure we all had drinks and gave us shopping tips. All the staff are hard working and efficient. The entertainment staff was also lovely, Bernabe in particular was great! He taught aqua aerobics, Zumba, and performed in the shows at night. He is very friendly, talented and energetic! The disco was usually slow but they had a fun beach party with a band, and other events. The resort itself was beautiful, so much foliage and lots of wildlife. There are lots of lights hung up throughout the resort, lots of pretty spots to take photos. Fun time with friends but also a very romantic resort. The beach was beautiful and well maintained, there was good variety in the food selection. The rooms were kept nice and clean. Only complaint is there was a pool of water outside of the bathroom door every time the shower was on. But the front desk offered to switch our room. The A/C is quite effective at cooling the rooms down quickly and the beds are covered with thin blankets so if you’re rooming with people who like chilly rooms at night bring some warmer pjs. Overall loved the resort and would go back again!
Pretty but it’s a scam
The place is pretty. They have very aggressive salespeople trying to sell you memberships for exclusive benefits, like going first in line at the cafeteria, and sitting in a more secluded beach spot. This cost me $6,500 in 2018 for 10 years (plus an annual $200/ year). They don’t tell you that unless you use their specific Exclusive Traveler’s Club site you can’t get the benefits of membership, the biggest one being that the salespeople leave you alone. We booked through the resort’s website (the resort owned and run by the club), and we can’t get the nicer wristbands that tell the rude sales people to leave us alone. Food is fine, nothing special. There are too many rules about where you can go eat and when, and if you miss the cafeteria cut off time there is no option other than to go hungry until it opens again. And no one tells you this when you arrive. You have to search their specific infographics to figure out when and where things are, and twice we had issues with the door openers not working.
