The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter.  The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday.  The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized and non-motorized watersports may be banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted  (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to non-native persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced

These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

The hotel is paradise. Until you get in the rooms .we were moved 3 times .toilets not fushing .tv broken .fridge broken The rooms were disgraceful. Realy run down and the toilet smelt like a mens urinal . I was actually called a liar by the maintenance man who kept telling me the fridge was working when it wasn't. Reception Richardson is a joke he's rude .laughs at you and acts like he would like to be any where but in the hotel this has been said before by customers in other reviews .After 3 moves we were offered an upgrade but refused it as many people said the rooms were the same if not worse .Have you ever been in a hotel where your rep is not allowed inside the hotel tui what are you thinking .you obviously don't know or care what is going on with your customers .Toilets blocked outside the sports bar .If your spanish speaking r french it's fine if you english forget it I have so many pictures to share please think hard before you book .And catalonia please don't give me an answer for my complaint you do this to every review and do nothing Head office and tyui will be receiving my complaint

    i hate jimmy

great resort, staff are very friendly and helpful (except for jimmy working the tennis court) good food, excellent cleaners. our only issue was a staff member “jimmy” who worked at the tennis registration desk, he kicked us off the court 20 minutes early (we had an hour booking but got kicked off at 40 minutes) he literally just said “get out” we explained to him that we have the booking for another 20 minutes and he flat out ignored us, we were asking why we had to leave and he just stood there ignoring us, rudest service worker i ever met, and after we left and came back to get him name we saw him arguing with 3 other guests, so clearly it isn’t just us who have a problem with him, at least he actually talked to them though instead of ignoring them. ill only return to this resort if jimmy is not there

    Avoid this hotel.

1 out of 5 stars. We are currently staying here and having an absolutely awful experience across the board. Upon arrival, we chose to pay for an upgrade, as we have a 5-month-old baby and wanted a higher level of comfort and service. Unfortunately, that decision hasn’t improved anything. First, the hotel couldn’t provide a crib for our baby, and when they finally sent one, it looked like it was from the 1980s—completely unsuitable. It was far too deep for my partner to place the baby in safely. To make matters worse, there was no kettle in the room to boil water for our baby’s bottles. When we asked for one, the staff suggested we use the coffee maker, which is obviously not appropriate for sterilizing baby bottles or mixing with formula and it also didn’t work. Instead, we had to go to the restaurant each time we needed boiling water and fill up a small travel flask—a frustrating and inconvenient solution. Adding insult to injury, another family who arrived after us showed us their modern, age-appropriate crib. When we requested a similar one, the staff told us they only have a limited number available and are not obligated to provide one. On top of that, we needed about five bottles of water daily—for drinking and cleaning bottles—but every time we requested them, the reception staff questioned why we needed so much. As for the room, it was poorly located, right next to a group of teenagers who partied every night. Despite their under-18 wristbands, they were allowed to disturb other guests into the early hours. Overall, this hotel has failed us in every possible way. The lack of basic amenities and poor service has made this stay an absolute nightmare, especially when traveling with a baby.

    Family Trip to Catalonia Bavaro

My family and i just got back from Catalonia Bavaro. It was our first time in DR, and here is our honest opinion. The grounds- immaculate- always mending and taking care, beautiful and lush, there are beautiful ducks, and turtles swimming in the ponds that are around the grounds. Our room- we did not upgrade to "privledged" our room was extremely old, the bed was hard as a rock and so were the pillows. it was spacious though. we had king size bed with a single on the other side of the room for our son. There was a leak half way through as well coming from the AC i believe. The pool- beautiful pool, great for kids and adults, not a ton of entertainment, drinks were quick and there best part which i have never seen at a resort before.. there was no need to wake up early to put your towels down in order to get a chair.. lots and lots of available chairs around. that was so nice to see. The beach- stunning. The weather- perfect, HOT, some shower breaks, and then the sun comes right back out. The service- Not great. smile once in a while? The Casino- dont waste your time or money... The photography/ photographers- outstanding!! we did a family photoshoot in the gardens and beach, they turned out amazing. A La Cartes- we did Italian, and the Rodeo Steak House- both were great! Buffets- Average.. same stuff basically day after day, one thing that broke our hearts was there was not enough traditional Caribbean food! Tours- we did two. One "glass bottom boat" the boat was verrrry slow causing a lot of sea sickness for me (not everyone gets that) they said that we would go see the dolphins.. they did not explain what that meant.. what we quickly realized is that that they took us to go see captive dolphins.. LAME!!!! The snorkeling was pretty decent though. Two: we did the buggying tour- so "BD Experience" neglected to tell us that we would be drenched in mud and filth the entire time which my 7yo son did not appreciate very much. cloths, shoes and backpacks were ruined! the mud stained everything! They did not tell us that at all "how to prepare for the trip" also, we told him we wanted a tour that was 4 hours.. so he told us this was four hours to get a sale when in fact.. it was 6.5 hrs.. Nightly Shows- 7/10! pretty good! So as you can see, it was some good and some bad.. my family and i have a lot of resort stays under our belt and this was our honest opinion of Catalonia Bavaro
