Mostly good with some issues
We had a pleasant stay in this well located hotel. We stayed 2 separate nights either side of a trip to see family in Limerick. The hotel is very close to O'Connell street, literally a 2 minute walk. The first night we had a fantastic room, couldn't be faulted....very spacious and clean. We had an evening meal at the downstairs vault restaurant, this was OK, worth a look if you're tired from travelling and just want an easy meal, although it feels quite dark and to my mind claustrophobic slightly. There was entertainment which was also OK. Breakfast was on the ground floor in the much nicer restaurant. Bright and spacious. The food was good and there was a wide selection of continental and Irish breakfast/fried breakfast. Also pancakes were available. The second night we stayed was a different story. We were put in the old part of the hotel. This was up several flights of stairs that are unavoidable even with a lift taking us some of the way. We had lots of luggage and a pram with a baby and a toddler. No help was offered. The room felt no where near as good as the first room, much smaller and far more dated....make sure you request a room in the newer part of the hotel. After a long drive I was keen to shower before venturing out. Only to find the shower was blocked which explained the drain smell in our room. We were given the key to another room to use the shower in there. In the morning at check out I brought up the issues we had had and was met with a very disinterested man behind the desk. I again said it wasn't as good as our first night and again the reply was "oh right" I would stay again but would certainly not accept a room at that end of the hotel. All in a good experience, slightly spoilt by room issues and a bit of dismissive service.

It just wasn't good.
We had Sunday lunch in the Castle Hotel restaurant in early January 2026. The restaurant is actually called the Old Music Shop. The lunch was frankly very poor. Firstly they forgot about one of the starters, (bruschetta), so two of us received ours while the third person was left without. They did apologise when it eventually arrived, 15 minutes after ours. However at least they admitted it had been forgotten. I had fish and chips for my main course. It really wasn't good as the batter on the fish was rock hard and burnt. How do you burn a batter. I suspect it wasn't it's first run through a fryer. The dessert which was a berry crumble was equally poor. Dry and completely lacking in flavour. Then also brought my coffee before the dessert. These are all basic things that should not happen in a restaurant. In fairness they did deduct the price of the "forgotten" starter but overall it was a pretty poor experience and I wouldn't be in a hurry back.

Great choice for Dublin
This hotel is in a lovely 18th century building with several gracious and comfortable reception rooms (or "lobbies") with antiques. The location is very convenient as most attractions are either a short walk away or reachable by nearby public transport. The rooms are also comfortable and attractive. Breakfast is generous. The staff is very warm, friendly, and helpful. Free music in the evenings! Really, you can't ask for a better Dublin experience.

Our experience at the Castle Hotel was amazing in every way. The location is very central, making it easy to get around and explore the area. The breakfast was excellent, with great quality and variety. Overall, it offers fantastic value for money. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Excellent stay with excellent rooms, facilities and staff
Four of us stayed at this hotel in separate rooms, we hired a mobility scooter for a friend, it had arrived before we go to the hotel, the staff took care of it all for us, the staff were professional, attentive and caring, one of our party had issues with no hot water in the room, an alternative room was offered and a tokenistic gesture, the food not only for breakfast which was a huge selection for the continental and cooked, the evening food was excellent quality and value for money, along with the entertainment they provide every night of the month, thank you to all the staff for making our stay enjoyable and memorable.
