Non-smokers Beware
The Casa Marina Beach and Reef Resort seemed to offer a fair price, great ocean views, pleasant grounds, and several pools to choose from. However, the standard room lacked some necessities. Other than one tiny nightstand drawer, there was no place to lay out our clothes. Our bathroom tap faucet was loose for the entire two weeks even after we asked for it to be repaired, and the room was very musty smelling. Towels were taken away in the morning, and clean ones weren’t returned for a few hours as if they didn’t have enough to go around. Pillows were sparse, flimsy and one had a smell of body odour. The restaurant had acceptable food choices and the staff was pleasant. Although, we were initially excited to be surrounded by so many fellow Canadians, our excitement was short-lived considering that every single pool, outside sitting area, lobby, and bar areas were filled with extremely inconsiderate smokers. There was literally no where to escape it. Most guests smoked off their balconies, at every pool chair, lounging area and bar. It appeared that as non-smokers, we were a strong minority. We’re not sure why this or any resort would give so much preference to smokers. Why not set up designated smoking areas? This resort needs to update their rooms, invest in more lounge chairs and beach towels, manage repairs and update their antiquated smoking rules so all guests feel welcomed. We will not be returning.

Great resort with great atmosphere!! For the $ this is good value. You need realistic expectations!
The location is ideal for the many great independent owned restaurants and bars with the beach right there! The food was pretty good at the buffet and went to the 3 restaurants onstite.yummy! the resort is very nice and kept clean and friendly. The rooms are a little tired but still ok. Would definitely stay there again!

STAY AWAY!!!
Here right now. This was a truly awful place to stay. I highly recommend staying far away. The amenities, rooms, and service were extremely poor. We had to switch rooms multiple times due to unacceptable conditions. Despite traveling with a baby and a stroller, we were placed on the 3rd floor with no elevator. The first room felt like something out of a horror movie. It was moldy, smelly, and run-down, with old ratty furniture, broken electrical outlets, cracked and broken floor tiles, dirty sheets, a broken toilet, no hot water, and a filthy bathroom. When I grabbed a towel from the rack, curly hair that was not mine fell off it. I genuinely wish I had taken photos — it was horrifying. Service was terrible across the board, from reception to dining. Tables often had no cutlery, and getting any was a nightmare due to being severely understaffed. The amenities are very dated, with only a few areas partially renovated. We ended up paying extra to upgrade our room out of desperation. While it was slightly better, it was still dirty. The pillows were extremely old and smelled vile. As a seasoned traveler who has also backpacked extensively throughout Latin America, I can confidently say these rooms are comparable to a run-down motel or low-quality hostel. In fact, many modern boutique hostels are far nicer than this. Pools are dirty and night entertainment has the girls in thong bodysuit twerking, there were moments where I thought it was 2 minutes from it turning into a strip show they should add stripper poles at their next renovation. Additionally, Sosua itself is grungy and completely unsuitable for families. Sex workers line the streets and congregate in bars and restaurants throughout the day, with many foreign men clearly there for that purpose. It was disturbing, and sad. Overall, this stay was disgusting, disappointing, and not worth the money under any circumstances. Waste of time and money.
