Accommodation was disappointing
We stayed for 4 nights in May 2023 as part of a holiday trip. The staff were accommodating helpful and friendly , and the location is great. However the accomodation is outdated and in need of a major upgrade. Old air conditioning only just takes the edge off the heat. There isn’t a usb outlet anywhere. The rooms are a good size but the musky old smell is hard to get through. The food and drinks were ok but 3 star at best. We will definitely have another holiday at Puerto Vallarta and have already started planning it but we will change where we stay.

Food needs improvement
Arrived & was put in the tower on the far side of the resort. Disputed the horrible room & had to pay extra to have rooms in the main resort. Heard from other people that this is what they do to most people. Wasted hours of our vacation rectifying the situation. Once we were moved, rooms were better but still outdated & older. Honestly the hand towel they provided, at home, I would have used as a cleaning rag. Disgusting. Frayed & torn. I will give them very good reviews for their service. The waiters were excellent. Very impressive!! But the food was very disappointing. Hubby is a fussy eater & he nearly starved. I am not fussy but was very disappointed also. Breakfast & lunch were okay. Suppers were awful. Although the steakhouse was excellent. But you were only able to do 3 reservations & used one for Italian. I liked the Italian restaurant but got violently ill after eating there. Another good point of the resort was the restocking snacks, drinks & water in rooms. Always generous & stocked daily. Would never return again due to the food which is too bad because the service is probably the best I've ever had at a resort.

A great experience!
The service at the hotel was excellent. Every member of the staff was welcoming and went above and beyond to make our experience pleasant. I had booked a 1 bdrm suite but found out that the suites are in the part of the hotel in the back and isolated from the main hub of activities by the pool. I had booked a 1 king plus pull out couch and we got 2 doubles and a pull out and it wasn’t great but a visit to the front desk and we were able to switch to a room with pool/ocean view and kitchenette for $250 extra. I was told the suites in the back are the cheaper section but when booking online they are higher priced so we aware when you book. Food was excellent. We were able to book the a la carte restaurants all in one go so no having to wait each morning to make reservations. The Buffet was excellent however very busy at times so take that into consideration if you’ve got tours/trips planned during the day. Nighttime activities were good and music wasn’t overly loud at night for people who prefer to sleep earlier. The beachfront is ok, we weren’t able to get into the ocean at all due to high winds and waves the entire time however those further north of the bay were able to at different hotels. The rooms are older and the amenities are older but it’s all useable and we appreciated the diligence of the staff to stock the mini fridge with 4 bottles of water, 4 soft drinks and 2 beers each day. The cleaners also check in with you to see if you need the room cleaned in case you forgot and left the do not disturb sign out. All in all a great experience! My family loved it and my wife has said she would definitely stay here again next time we’re down in PVR. I highly recommend and don’t let the poor reviews affect your decision.

Charming Family Friendly Resort
Nice holiday! Our room: Two bedroom luxury suite. (2 bed, 2 bath, kitchen, dining, sitting area) - our room was nice. A newer room, clean and bright. Located in a newer addition of the hotel, down from the lobby. It was an easy walk to main areas, restaurants and pools. Room was kept clean daily, and fridge stocked with small snacks (fruit plate upon arrival) and pop/water/beer. A big balcony with Loungers and chairs. Beds were decently comfortable and bathrooms were bright and had nice big, modern showers. Limited kitchen items but they helped stock when we asked for things. Room was great for a family. Room overlooked kids pool. Restaurant were good. Small buffets but food was tasty and they had a little bit of everything you’d expect. Delicious fresh breads daily! Coffee wasn’t too good (there is a little coffee shop down the road) Helpful and friendly staff. Never waited very long for anything. A la carte restaurants: Italian - amazing. Great atmosphere and great food. Mexican - not great food. Very fatty meats or tough meats. Located in the older part of the hotel but staff was nice and the restaurant itself was cute/authentic style. Surf & Turf - beautiful sunset beach location, food was tasty and big portions. Snack bar was good, fresh & fried food which had American style options. Plus, delicious fish tacos. Overall I’d rate the food at this resort 8/10. There is a bit of something for everyone. Pools: 3 pools. Main pool is busy, loud and fun. Lots of good music, games. Plus has Two side kids pools, (shallow) and lots of loungers. Daily kids club crafts by main pool. Kids pool, a bit hard to find at first but is newer and very clean/stylish. A fun place for little kids and doesn’t get overly busy. Only downfall, is it’s a bit of a trek from all the other amenities. Mountainside pool. Very cute, Quiet and had a nice bar area, with higher end booze. Also has a shallower area for little kids. If you prefer high end booze, go to the lobby bar. Staff was amazing. Everyone friendly and helpful. The resort was well kept and pretty. It’s an older resort with charm, but well maintained and comfortable. Beach is small and has big waves. Older style lounge chairs and small Palapa covers. Not many chairs and always busy. Lots of sales people but they stop when you say “no thanks”. Beach was clean and has lots of walking in either direction. Felt safe. Activities: horses, seadoos etc a few resorts down. (For rent) Overall I would recommend this resort for families. It felt safe, clean and comfortable. Easy distance to Malacon and other sites.

Fantastic Location, Great Facilities, and Wonderful Staff Make Canto Del Sol Ideal for a Great Vacation
This is an updated review from a trip I took in October of 2020. Subject: Canto del Sol Plaza Vallarta All Inclusive Beach & Tennis Resort Location: Puerto Vallarta Canto Del Sol Plaza Vallarta is in an ideal location on Playa Los Coprolitos in Puerto Vallarta. Though the rooms are a bit outdated, they are functional and offer great views. Staff and amenities are excellent and concern for safety is evident everywhere throughout the property. Since this is an updated review, I assume by now that the temporary closure of direct access to the main road is no longer a factor. In 2020 it was a hassle with access only further South via Calle Febronio Uribe. Some days the resort can be very crowded with long lines for food and drinks. I opted for non all inclusive so it didn't affect me much. The crowds grew smaller during the week. The beach is excellent and as long as you get there early enough to get a palapa, you can be comfortable even in the heat of the day. If not, you can rent chairs and umbrellas and vendors are all over the place selling shrimp and fish on a stick and small local oysters. Again in 2020, beach access in all of Puerto Vallarta was closed after 3PM and I assume this is no longer a factor. Also, the swim up bar had a barrier preventing people from sitting at the bar in the pool while enjoying their drinks. I also assume that this is no longer the case. It would have been super nice if the swim up bar was open when I visited. Bottom line is that this resort is a great place for a vacation, primarily for families. If you don't like kids, you probably shouldn't stay there.
