Food poisoning and check-in scam
Leaving this review as a warning for anyone considering this resort. I traveled in a group of 20 for a bachelorette party, and of the 20, 8 got SEVERE food poisoning, and just about everyone else had extended periods of nausea. If you read no further, let this be your warning. 1. Food: based on reviews, expectations for food were pretty low, but the food was quite bad and just overall felt very unhealthy. Everything was super greasy and salty and processed. We went to the buffet one night and everything was lukewarm, which we think contributed to the food poisoning. For large group dinners they claim you don’t need a dinner reservation, but when you go to actually book a dinner and you want your group to eat at the same time (still at different tables), they make you spend $300 on wine to make the reservation. Otherwise they tell you there’s a 45 min+ wait to eat, unless you go at like 5pm. 2. Check-in/check-out: literally the worst experience I’ve ever had. Two of our rooms had 3 people in each room, and when we arrived, they claimed they had no record of this, even though I showed them receipts/confirmations for the three people. To remedy the fact that their information was wrong, we had to pay an extra $250 because they refused to accept my confirmations as valid. My travel agent had to spent hours on the phone with their sales team to get this fixed and get the extra charge refunded. Without my travel agent they would have definitely kept my money, there was no way to win this. This also made the check-in process take over an hour for our group. They also charged me an extra $310 for no reason when the rooms were booked that my agent had to personally reimburse me, and they charged another girl an extra $300 because she was joining a room as a third person a day later than the room started, but they claimed for her to be in the room at all she needed to pay for every night of the room, even though their payment is based on occupancy and not the room itself. Basically, unless you book through an agent you already have a strong working relationship with, this resort will shake you down for hundreds of extra dollars. Check out was also bad, where they wouldn’t let us leave the resort until you provide a slip from the front desk, and when there was an issue with our slip due to the issues with our reservation, they held us up and physically wouldn’t let us leave until it was resolved. This risked us being late for our flight and was truly insane. 3. Half of the pool was pretty gross, with lots of trash/dirt/plant material floating in it. And the hot tub is super murky/yellow. 4. Our room smelled REALLY bad from day 1, I suspect there is mold/mildew in the vents. Positives: the employees were generally very kind and helpful (other than check-in/check-out people), and the resort definitely has a party-forward atmosphere which is fun for large groups.

Not very Good
Rooms were so so, food was very plain & boring. Nothing special about the place. Not enough deck chairs at the beach or the pool. One and done at this place.

Overpriced, Overrated, and Average at Best
For reference we have been to over 30 All Inclusives so my review is based on how this Breathless compares to the other ones we have been to. I use to give all Inclusives a break if everything was not up to par because they were such a good value. However, now the price has increased to the same as a luxury resort in the states, I expect a certain level of service and amenities. Like HOT Water!! It was very cold when we were in Cancun lower 70s were the high and down to 56 at night. Some nights all we wanted was a hot shower no such luck. Didn't matter what time water wasn't hot. Probably won't matter if you go when it was hot, but being as cool as it was a hot shower would be nice. The smell of septic is strong throughout the resort. Don't waste your $ on an swim out in the winter. We were in building 7 ( closest to Desires) oceanfront room- view was pretty during Sunrise, but the swim out pool was FREEZING. Again if I am going to pay luxury price, I want a heated pool. We arrived Saturday afternoon there was some dancers around the XCELERATE pool, then no entertainment all week at that pool until Friday. Things were listed on the app, but nothing happened. Not sure if weather was the reason. Again, we hated that it was cold, but still expected the activities to go on. There actually were way more activities at the Energy pool then the XCELERATE the week we were there. The front desk said all pools should be the same temperature, but there were huge discrepancies between them. So some most have some type of heating mechanism. For example the tropical view swim out 6101-6110 that pool was way warmer than ours and no sun every hits it. I would give food and drinks a 5/10 ( average). They definitely need more bartenders at the bars- 1 at each bar is not enough. Also if the weather is nice probably wouldn't notice this, but there isn't a Grand lobby with a fancy bar. All bars are outside even the one they consider the sports bar. Each bar area has limited seating. Also, the bar staff is not overly eager to assist you they want you to order through waitstaff, which isn't a problem if they had waitstaff taking orders. For example, 1 day at the beach we had a server the next day sit at the same spot no server all day in that area. Also, all other resorts that we have been to the waitstaff will serve you drinks in your swim up pool, but this is not the case at Breathless. A positive highlight was the spa, all staff was very friendly and while the prices are high $149 for 50 minute massage and $149 for 50 minute facial. I enjoyed all the services, even the free Hydrotherapy circuit that was included! It was probably the best Hydrotherapy session I had ever had at a spa. Another highlight was the maid did an excellent job and came daily. Also the mini fridge actually kept items cold and was restocked in room daily. Now, this is the greatest negative. There is some stomach virus currently going through the resort. Numerous people were sick in their rooms. We came with a group of 25 and at least 16 of us got it. It made flying home miserable!! For the price, I paid I expected more! Service, food and drinks were all average. The entertainment was lacking in the XCELERATE pool if it is suppose to be the party pool. The overall foot print of this resort is small. I honestly don't think it was big enough for them to make it into 2 resorts. They should of left it all Breathless with a preferred side. We won't be making a second visit to this resort.

Excellent service
I highly recommend this resort. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of so we could truly relax and enjoy our trip. The service, attention to detail, and overall experience exceeded our expectations. We would definitely return.
