Great hotel and location
A great hotel for your stay in CDMX, the location is very close to Palacio Bellas Artes, monumento de la Revolucion. The staff extremely friendly , it was my bday and they actually send a piece of cake yo my room. I have access to the VIP Lounge, the view , the food and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend the hotel for you next stay at CDMX
A worthwhile stay
The Barcelo Reforma is a great hotel, and is absolutely worth staying at. The location is great, access to the historical center is easy on foot, and it is close to the Metro so you can get the university quickly. The value is incredible, and at the premium level the perks are awesome. The rooms are good sized, well appointed and spotlessly clean. The staff is cheerful and helpful, and it is a great place to stay in a fantastic city to visit.
Choose the room on a high floor
If you room happened to be on the lower floor you might have problems. Our friend’s room was on the second floor and they could hear restaurant music late night. The room was hot and you can smell restaurant food. Our room was on the 8 floor and it was good. Just choose high floor and you will be ok. The breakfast was excellent.
Top shelf, great value.
From doormen upon arrival, to check out staff, great experience. Delicious food, really good location, comfortable room, high quality executive lounge, quiet, clean and bright. Very easy to walk to fun, informative venues.
Constant problems with rooms
Unfortunately, this hotel has been a disappointment. I gave it two stars because the staff do seem like they are doing their best. At first, it seemed like the staff were trying to be helpful. I’m not sure if it’s a language barrier or just that it’s an old/run down hotel and there’s only so much they can do to help. Unfortunately, every time I was at the lobby desk explaining my issues with the room (the people on the phone didn’t really understand me very well, which is my fault) there were other people explaining their water wasn’t working, water wasn’t hot, other issues, etc. The hotel seems to be older and the furniture is old/uncomfortable, the water leaked in the tub (had to move rooms), and even though they gave me a “free upgrade” the new room was dusty and dirty. They do offer shampoo and shower gel (L’Occitane in the suites, not in the regular rooms) but they did not provide conditioner or body lotion so make sure to bring those if you choose to stay here. The A/C doesn’t seem to work (it’s 73 degrees F outside and with the A/C set to 11 degrees C for days, it’s still 23 degrees C/73 F in the room). The WIFI was inconsistent - it would randomly not work for periods of 20-30 mins then start working again. Would not recommend for remote work expectations. The carpets were stained, ceiling light that didn’t work, towels smelled mildew-y, couch/chairs are hard/uncomfortable, the TV had huge static lines across every channel (reported it and no one came to fix it), some of the lamps can’t be turned on/plugged in (because they have European plugs and the wall outlets are American style). Also, you can hear the people walking by/talking through the front door and the noise from the neighboring rooms (just regular living, not like they are having a party or anything). They have a very small/shallow fridge, even in the suites, that can’t even fit a plate of leftovers in it. Would be better if the suites had basics like at least a college fridge, microwave, nespresso machine, etc. They only offer drip coffee/Americano in the room (vs most other average/nice hotels offer at least Nespresso machines). They only give you one set of amenities (for example, towels, coffee, water bottle, soap, etc.) even when you request more or select the option for less frequent room cleaning (so you have to call for replacements all the time and that takes a good 45-60 mins to deliver to the room). The room service has been very poor. The food (especially breakfast/eggs) does not seem to be seasoned well. It took an average of 50 mins to get the food/espresso - it was usually already cold by the time it got here. The espresso/coffee from room service (had to pay for it) was not good - tasted like they just poured Americano coffee into an espresso cup. For what it is, it’s over-priced, and I’d recommend eating/getting your coffee elsewhere or ordering in as Uber eats was available. The pool was very small. The exercise room always seemed to have open machines (not many people using the facility) but the pool was usually full of children/people and the chairs taken. None of the amenities or tours others have mentioned in their comments were explained to me. There wasn’t a clear way to schedule with the Spa other than just going there - didn’t seem to be a way to do it online and when I called there was miscommunication. Also, they don’t have any information in the room (like a binder or explanation of services in writing). They have a QR code for the room service menu on the first TV channel - but nothing else that explains anything. I would not stay here again or recommend it to others.
