Relaxation in a little paradise
We stayed 7 nights, starting March 20. We booked Premium, which had some perks, special concierge for check-in/out and reservations for the al a carte restaurants and ocean view room. We really enjoyed this. The beach was so well maintained, the food was very good. Was a great place to stay and would definitely stay again.

Disappointing
My experience at the Barceló Bavaro Beach Resort was, unfortunately, extremely disappointing — without a doubt, the worst accommodation I have ever had. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with extreme rudeness by the customer service staff. I speak some Spanish and my friend speaks some English, and at times we switched between both languages to communicate better. Even so, one staff member was rude and told us we needed to “decide” which language to speak, completely ignoring the fact that neither language is our native one. It was a disrespectful and completely inappropriate approach. Communication with the hotel had already been problematic even before the trip — I tried contacting them several times using the number available in Brazil and was never answered. Upon arriving at the airport, we had difficulty finding the transfer because there were no clear prior instructions. We only figured things out on the spot, which caused unnecessary stress right at the beginning of the trip. When we entered the room, things got worse: it was visibly dirty, with greasy floors, safe, and mirror, as well as dirty bed linens, indicating that it had not been properly cleaned before our arrival. The bathtub was clogged — during the first shower, the water rose to our ankles. The most absurd part was realizing that even basic issues like this were only resolved if we gave tips. In fact, this was a constant throughout our stay: practically everything operates based on tips. Pool staff would ignore requests if no extra payment was given, which is completely unacceptable at an all-inclusive resort, where service is supposed to be included in the price. The constant feeling was that we were seen as a source of money rather than as guests. At one of the restaurants, La Brisa (adults-only area), we went through a very embarrassing situation. Even though we had made a reservation, we were told at the lobby that it was not necessary to bring proof. When we arrived at the restaurant, they said there was no reservation under our name. The staff member let us in as if she were doing us a “favor.” They got our juice and dessert wrong, served old fruit, and mocked our accent right in front of us. Another negative point was the food: low quality, with drinks frequently watered down. In one specific situation, the ice cream machine was malfunctioning and, when my wife tried to serve herself, she ended up completely soaked because only liquid came out instead of ice cream. Additionally, the table napkins were ALWAYS dirty (they simply flipped them to the other side and left the same napkin for different guests to use). It is important to note that the hotel’s infrastructure is good, and the location is privileged, with a beautiful beach. However, this does not compensate in any way for the poor service, lack of cleanliness, and overall disorganization. We only had one positive experience with a single staff member at the Santa Fe Steakhouse restaurant, Yokayra, who treated us with genuine kindness and respect — something rare throughout the entire stay. I made a point of noting her name to thank her for being so kind, polite, and helpful. In summary: poor service, inadequate cleanliness, disrespectful staff, and an extremely negative experience. I do not recommend it and do not intend to return.

Nice spot, but some room for improvement
We stayed 10 nights, starting March 24. We booked Premium, which had some perks, including an ocean view room, special concierge for check-in/out and reservations for the al a carte restaurants. There is also free daily hydrotherapy at the spa, which includes saunas, steam baths, a hot pool and plunge pool. We really enjoyed this. We're also both golfers and chose this resort for its exclusive course. The course is easily accessible by foot or land train and is a real gem. Staff was great and the course was in excellent shape. Guests receive one green fee each per day, however must pay cart fees (around US 70.00 for two people). No caddies required. Not to be confused with the Barcelo Palace (the family side), we found the food and drinks very good. Our best meal was at Chez Gourmet(?), one of only two al a carte restaurants on the adults-only side. We also had a very good meal at La Dolce Vita, the Italian place at the Palace. The resort grounds are well maintained and clean. We found the housekeeping staff efficient and thorough. Not to say there aren't opportunities for improvement. The check-in experience at the Premier lounge was chaotic the day we arrived and it took a few visits to finally get our room. The room itself was fine, but for the price paid, the bathroom was very outdated. There were issues with water (one day we had no hot water, the next day no cold) and when fixed, the shower had very little pressure. These are first-world problems and would not stop us from returning. Were we not golfing every other day, I would say this would be over-priced. However, if golf is your thing, it's a great spot for a couple or a group.
