Not worth staying here.
I read all the reviews and this place sounded great which is why we booked our stay. I will say that the staff is awesome and the beach is beautiful. The rooms and food were absolutely terrible. The food at the buffets are gross, beds are old and uncomfortable, showers have mold, pool needs new tiles which are falling off, and the music at the pool is extremely loud and obnoxious. The location of Barcelo puts you next to walking distance restaurants which were awesome! Overall, I would not recommend staying here. This place is out dated and in need of repair. The couples were older than us (we’re in our early 40’s) so be aware of that if you’re looking for people your own age this was a seniors hang out.

Wonderful dining experience at Kyoto restaurant
We had dinner at the Kyoto restaurant, and the food was absolutely incredible. From the starters to the main dishes and desserts, everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. Special thanks to Jazon, Pasan, and Carlos. Their service was exceptionally well organized, warm, and attentive, and they truly made our dinner a special and happy experience. This was a memorable evening, and we genuinely appreciated both the outstanding food and the excellent service

Great place to stay, but there’s a small issue with the palapas
There is always an issue with beach loungers. If you don’t show up by 5:30 a.m., you won’t be able to get a good spot under the palapas, which seem to decrease in number every year at Barceló Beach. In addition, beach boys have turned this into a business—you clearly have to give them money in exchange for beach loungers. I’m not sure if management is aware of this, but it needs to be stopped. You could either add more palapas and sell them officially (as other resorts do), so guests don’t have to wake up at 5 a.m. while on vacation, or enforce rules that would prevent this situation in the future.
