Misleading, non luxury.
We travelled with TUI to Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an and were very disappointed with our holiday from start to finish. The problems began on our outbound flight, where one of the air hostesses was rude and unprofessional—especially frustrating considering we had paid for premium class. At Sian Ka’an at Grand Bahia Principe, the resort sold to us as 5-star felt more like a 3–4 star at best, and its location was not ideal. Our room had several maintenance issues, including a fridge that was never fixed despite multiple reports, a horrible smell that clung to our clothes, and a curtain that wouldn’t close properly, compromising our privacy. The shower water fluctuated between freezing cold and boiling hot, and the door wouldn’t close properly, causing the bathroom to flood after each use—a clear health and safety hazard which was never resolved. The jacuzzi had a loose top and a layer of solid mud at the bottom; although it was cleaned when requested, it remained stained and continued to release brown water. One day, we returned to find that the sofa in our room had been replaced without our knowledge or permission, even though we had never complained about it. This felt inappropriate and invasive. On top of that, the maintenance worker repeatedly left our room door open while coming in and out, and we discovered it left wide open with no one inside when returning to our room—putting our belongings at clear risk of theft. Cleanliness around the resort was inconsistent. There was worn-out furniture, bird faeces on chairs, broken fixtures, flies around the snack bar, and cups and trays left out overnight in other parts of the complex. Service throughout the resort was disappointing unless you tipped heavily or were a club member. We waited for drinks at the pool on two occasions and never received them. Room service also failed to collect dishes despite requests made via the app. One of the most misleading aspects was the so-called “private, adults-only beach.” Beaches in Mexico cannot legally be private, and this one certainly wasn’t: there were children, guests from other hotels, and even areas reserved exclusively for VIPs. The trolley also did not take you directly to the beach as advertised. Entertainment and communication were poor. Activities were repetitive, and events we were looking forward to—such as The Origin—were cancelled without notice. There was no entertainment board at Sian Ka’an to show what was happening across the other resorts, and staff didn’t engage with guests or explain where activities were taking place. At one point, we were sitting in reception having a drink and playing cards when an activity suddenly started right next to us with no announcement or invitation to join. The dining experience lacked quality and variety. The buffet was frequesntly used by memebers of akumal and other resort members. While the food often looked visually appealing, it was either overly salted or bland. Labels were missing or incorrect, and bartenders didn’t offer drink options beyond the limited menu—something we only discovered could be requested on our last day. The à la carte restaurants were difficult to book, and even when we managed to secure a reservation, the food quality was poor and the service felt rushed. A waiter even took my plate while I was still eating simply because my partner had finished. The snack bar was not truly a snack bar either; it offered a limited, repetitive menu of full meals rather than lighter snack options. Adding to the frustration, staff repeatedly approached us to sell spa treatments or encourage us to visit shops, even when we were clearly trying to relax. Overall, the holiday did not match what was advertised or what we paid for, and it fell far short of the standards we expect from a TUI trip and a luxury 5-star resort as advertised by Bahia Principe. Its such a shame as our first time in Mexico, this experience has made us not want to return. If you truly want a luxury experience, do not book here.

Still just like family.....
This was our 12th visit to Sian Ka'an, over the last 14 years and it never disappoints! To my Wife and I, these are some of the finest people on the planet. From the little things like Food & Beverage, Entertainment and Cleanliness, to the most important things like a smile, a hug, or just taking a moment to see if you are having as good a time as they want you to. These folks are GREAT! Alexander, Diana and James made me feel like part of their Team, often asking if I could demonstrate the game they wanted to play at the moment. They are Gems and make everything they are involved in a special moment! Fernando at the front desk is EXCEPTIONAL in EVERY WAY! We had the smallest of issues with our mini fridge and it was fixed before we even got back to our room. Customer Service at it's finest, for sure! Oh, and he also upgraded my10 year old Bahia Principe name tag, to make me more modern and up to date! What a gift! Jorge, Antonio & Marisol were this weeks keepers of the Pool Bar. What a blessing! From having my Rum of choice available at almost all times, to conversations that I will remember forever. Nothing is too difficult, too much or any trouble for all three of them. Side note - I hope your Birthday on Sunday was the best EVER, Jorge! As with our last trip, we saw quite a bit less of Carlos, (Charly Chan) but every moment was treasured. He and I have been friends and it is truly because of his kind nature and exceptional Customer Service. If you are lucky enough to get the chance to spend some time with Carlos, I hope you get to see why I feel this way, and always will. No visit to Sian Ka'an would EVER be the same without Breakfast with Miriam, Antonio and of course, my brother Daniel. All three have truly become very special friends to us. As greedy as this sounds, we miss them when they get a well deserved day off. The first thing that came to my mind when Daniel mentioned he had 2 days off this week due to not getting a day off the week before was, those lucky guests last week! We started missing each of you more, the second we got our last hugs from each of you. Mako and Alux have always been our go-to al a Carte restaurants. As always at Mako, we hadn't even set foot in the door when we were waved down by Edgar and the smile we'll never forget was as brilliant as ever. I believe that the only way you could have a bad experience around Edgar is, you might be having a bad day yourself. A new experience was had at Alux, having Rogue, (UC) take care of us for my Wife's Birthday Dinner. What a pleasure! My Wife instantly took to him and let him order her entire meal. Rogue did not disappoint at all! What a special, special night! At entertainment time we have ALWAYS looked for one smile, she just HAS TO BE THERE! Silvia has the greatest smile on the planet, when she notices that we are looking for her and have found her. Also, for the record, Silvia gives damn good hugs also! Lastly, as far as all things people go - Oscar, your kindness and generosity will also NEVER be forgotten. Oscar is the fourth General Manager of Sian Ka'an that we have had the pleasure of spending some time with and let me tell you this. EVERY time I have thought, "I hope they never lose this GM!" Yet somehow, each and every time Bahia Principe has upgraded at this position! You are a special man, Oscar, I sincerely hope our paths cross again! As for the things I see a few complaints about here on Trip Adviser - If you are not happy with the temperature of your food, take it to the grill and they will make it hotter for you. The buffet offers a wide variety of choices, but they are also not your limit! I often look for items I think would make an interesting change of pace and have the young lady at the grill combine them for me. As an example, Huevos Rancheros of some sort, was a regular go-to breakfast of mine. I think the girls had fun seeing what I'd bring to them next! Just saying you are allowed to be as creative as you want. Buildings dated and dirty? Every single day of this trip and every single day on many others, I have talked with a worker or workers that were diligently striving to keep up with the painting of the building exteriors. It's not easy having such a vast complex of buildings in a tropical forest, and keeping the fresh as a newly opened 5* resort the day of! They truly work hard at it! Things out of the resorts control - The weather The sea weed Your flight Your travel company etc.... etc.... etc There are currently over 10,000 reviews on this site alone. About 400 are bad. I was never a math genius, but that sure looks like a 96% approval rating to me. In my humble opinion, even 96% approval is too low! Thanks for another great visit everyone! Hasta Luego 'Marco'

Absolutely perfect
This resort is absolutely our favourite. All the Bahia Principe resorts included in our stay were fantastic. The Sian Kaan was exactly what we needed to feel relaxed and comfortable. The staff go above and beyond to ensure a good experience. The food at all 4 resorts were fantastic. The adults only infinity pool at Akumal was our favourite. Thr sports bar at Akumal was perfect. They even out the hockey game on for us to watch! The sand on the beaches could use some effort.. broken glass in some spots. All in all this was our favourite vacation ever, and we are already planning to return. Best ever!!

Over promised and under delivered - not 5 star or luxury. Staff 5 star, rooms 1 star!
A special holiday to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. We travelled with our 18 & 21 year old daughters and our eldest daughter’s partner. We had several maintenance issues with our rooms, including needing to move rooms (almost twice). You’ll see from our other reviews that we are not people that have unreasonable expectations or take pleasure in complaining. It's the first time we've asked to move rooms in 30 years of travelling together. I’ll start with the more positive aspects. Staff Hard working and lovely. Particularly Isabel at guest relations and Melissa at the pool. Food Plenty of choices at buffet but nothing so amazing you wanted to go up for second helpings or hoped it was there again on future visits. We found the Akumal buffet better so went there a couple of times. The a la cartes were all amazing and having so many to choose from was great. Access to other hotels, the beach and hacienda This was great- really opened up the options of bars, restaurants and pools. Buggies take you between resorts. General This holiday was sold to us as a quiet, luxury hotel with access to other hotels and the hacienda, if we wanted it. This sounded a perfect match for us, as it gave our daughters options if they wanted something more lively, whilst we’re happy with the quiet life. It seems the hotel don’t quite know who their target client group is. I was surprised to see some large groups arriving, some quite boisterous. I appreciate the hotel can’t take responsibility for guests behaviour, but some were drunk and loud very early in the day and you could not relax around the pool with many of them liking the sound of their own voice – it just didn’t quite fit with the peaceful environment we were expecting. We found quieter spots around the Tulum & Akimul pools and also enjoyed the beach. I didnt expect to have to leave the hotel for peace and quiet. Rooms Neither 5 star or luxury. For the first time in 30 years of booking package holidays, we had to ask to move rooms due to damp. First room – Damp on arrival. We were offered a dehumidifier which was emptied regularly by us and the hotel. It took until our 3rd day to move us. Hotel is advertised as 5 star luxury – I wouldn’t expect a room to be let to paying customers with a duhimidifier in it, even in the most basic of hotels. Second room – issues with air conditioning (we were on the top floor and it was making bang and boom noises, beyond the white noise some describe) enough to make you jump. Husband could not sleep and ended up buying earplugs and sleeping tablets. The hotel kept saying it was fixed and then we’d be woken again during the night. Apparently, they are putting sponge underneath the units on the roof to stop the vibration. Nothing changed whilst we were there. We also had issues with the toilet backing up plus randomly flushing (very loudly) when there was nobody in the bathroom, which was quite unnerving in the middle of the night. We also could not close the mini bar door as the ice box had no door and needed defrosting. It was one thing after the other and really quite exhausting having to continuously raise things with the reception team and TUI I would not return as do not trust the hotel and would not want to run the risk of being allocated such awful rooms again
