    Just Ok

Staff great. Food great. Drinks watered down. Room horrible: mold odor - my unused clothing still reeks of odor 6 days later, not sure if those were supposed to be pillows under my head with foul odor as well, and bed was missing mattress felt like laying on a box spring. Won’t be back.

    Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar

Great 2 week stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar, this place never fails to give us everything we need to enjoy our holiday. Great rooms, comfortable beds, amazing food and drinks, spotlessly clean everywhere there’s always someone cleaning public spaces and grooming the garden areas. All staff very friendly, professional and some go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. This visit there was more cats and kittens than we’ve seen on previous visits but if you love cats they won’t be a problem but if you don’t please don’t be horrible to them, we saw one man who obviously didn’t care to watch the kittens play and went out of his way to splash them whilst in his swim out room. Beach always kept seaweed free early in the morning and we were always able to get a sun lounger, if you want one with shade you’ll need to join the very very early towel reserving mob who then don’t appear for hours. Didn’t use the swimming pool this visit as we had a swim out room. Can’t wait to return again very soon. Please don’t let the bad reviews put you off, it’s your holiday and we all have different opinions and tastes but we enjoy it and will keep returning.

    Couples visit

Beautiful stay, location is perfect, private beach with waiter service, food and drink excellent, only slight pain was people reserving umbrellas on the beach and not using them. Entertainment great, I would recommend booking the A La Carte dining soon as you arrive as we struggled to get into them

    Just ok

This is not a 5 star hotel like they advertise. My room smelled like mold. Ceiling in shower was all cracked. My pillow smelled dirty. The beach is super nice but you cannot relax for one minute without a random lady pulling your leg and start massaging you without even asking you. It is person after person bothering you with unwanted offers. I did my research before going and was generous with my tips so I got a great service. Employees remember you when you are a good tipper. They hug you when they see you and give you a faster service. The food was good at the buffet. Overall it was an ok experience. I wont be back.

Worth going to, but some small improvements could be made

This is a beautiful resort, and the staff goes out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. I was quite pleased with both of those facts. For the most part, the à la carte restaurants are fantastic. At Portofino, we had an incredible buratta appetizer, and the best octopus I’ve ever eaten in my life. M.E.A.T was very good also, but not quite as good as what other people have been saying about it. Taíno was outstanding, and they had a very good presentation of the food and it really helped immerse you in the Dominican culture. We also ate at one of the neighboring hotel’s Rodizio restaurants, and that was as expected. About the same that you will find at any other Brazilian steakhouse. The only à la carte restaurant we ate at that we didn’t care for was Limbo. The food was under-seasoned and overcooked. We couldn’t even finish any of our food, and when the waiter realized that we didn’t care for it, he brought us their “best” dish, which was equally as inedible. Other reviewer’s assessments of the pool situation were accurate; there is not very much seating available, and the amount of shade options leaves a lot to be desired. You have to walk around for a while to find a seat. Same deal with the beach, although we had a little bit more success there. Overall, not bad enough to get angry about, but it would make things better if these issues were corrected. Also, the beach itself was one of the best beaches I have been to (and I go to A LOT of different beaches). One other thing that turned me off was the fact that the bartenders severely lacked training in how to make basic drinks. I would say that they specialize in resort style drink drinks: the sugary, frozen, mixed drink variety. If you want any sort of drink outside of that, good luck. For a resort that caters to adults only, this is a major oversight. Adults who book a vacation here and pay a premium price are not the type of people who only care about getting drunk on whatever they can find. Premium quality drinks are important. Finally, the evening entertainment was very good. We attended the fire show, which was fantastic, and several of the other dance themed evening shows. The daytime entertainment became a little bit repetitive and we could take it or leave it.
