Great Vacation!
We love the DR, and we really enjoyed this resort. The food was great. We ate at the Steakhouse, Portofino, and the Japanese restaurants and would highly recommend them. The entire complex is huge, but easy to find your way around. The place is immaculate, and the staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and hard working. The rooms are spacious, and the beds are comfy. We had some minor issues with the plumbing and the AC, and both were fixed immediately. The beach is beautiful! We loved walking for hours in the sand, and there was never an issue getting a lounger. We highly recommend this resort!

Average experience
Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine was an average experience. While we had a great pool side room, the room itself was dirty and old. It was in dire need of updating. The daily cleaning was not really "cleaning". There were many days that were not left with new towels, and the towels that were on the floor, were not cleaned up. The plumbing needs updating. The water was scalding, no matter which way we turned it. The shower dial needed to stay in a certain place for it to be tolerable, but you could not use the faucets, so we had to get creative with brushing our teeth and washing our faces/hands. The pool area had a great vibe and there were always pool chairs available. The pool bar was one of the highlights, but the entertainment was average. At one point, the staff came around with QR codes and would not leave until you left them a 5-star review, which I did not appreciate. We were there on a girls trip, so we made our own fun. The beach was beautiful, and even going at around 10 AM, we still managed to find beach chairs. There was barely any sargassum. The food was okay. Not the best, but not the worst. Overall, for a 4 day trip, it was not a bad stay. The experience is what you make it and we made the most of it.

DO NOT STAY HERE FOR ANY REASON!!
DO NOT STAY HERE FOR ANY REASON!! I don’t know how this is classified anything more than a 2 star resort. BELIEVE ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS as they are an accurate representation of this place. We were treated horribly since we step foot on this property. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re American or African American but it’s absolutely wrong. Our money is green just like everyone else’s. TREATMENT: Restaurants- even though we were seated first, we were ALWAYS served last! We asked for our drinks and noticed on several occasions we were served after those of different races when they were seated after us and ordered the same drinks. Rock crab was on the buffet. We asked for crab crackers. The table beside us asked after us. Needless to say, that table received theirs and we were still waiting. We asked several times after. NOTHING! We then asked for a manager and bam, crab crackers appeared. We still wanted to speak to the manager. 20 minutes later the manager came. The manager lied and said they only had 2 crab crackers which was untrue because we saw them give them to 2 other tables, 1 table already had a pair and they brought us a pair. Bars- we were none existent there. They walk right past us and offer to serve others. The waitresses don’t ask if we care for a drink. We always had to go to the bar to be served and once there, we’re still over looked. Same when at the beach and the pool. ROOMS: Antiquated!! They definitely need a major makeover. The jacuzzi tub is filthy. The dirt is embedded as we bring cleaning supplies and ours couldn’t get it cleaned. Paint is chipping everywhere, the faucet and drains are rusted. The beds are extremely hard. We got better sleep in the lounge chairs at the pool and beach! There are thin sheets on the bed. You will need to turn the air off unless you will freeze throughout the night (we got clean beach/pool towels at the end of each day to use as blankets.) The water is extremely hot. There is no cold water and no water pressure. What mini bar? 1 orange soda, 1 Pepsi and 2 beers daily. That’s it! Pillows are flat. BARS: Bring your own alcohol. The stuff included is below hell. The bottom shelf liquor like Jim Beam is an additional fee. There is no cognac, bourbon or whiskey except in the lobby bar and it’s below bottom shelf liquor. The juice for mixed drinks are very concentrated. Therefore, the drink tastes NutraSweet! We drank champagne the majority of the time. RESTAURANTS: I’m almost scared to eat anything as the food at the buffet that’s supposed to be hot is less than room temperature. There is a variety but nothing seasoned. They have crab but no crab crackers. Some of the same food in the restaurants be on the buffet. If you plan to go to the restaurants, make reservations at least 2 weeks before you get there to get the selections you like. The best thing we eat in 5 days were hamburgers from the pool’s grill. POOL/BEACH: Pool filters were never on. There was a film on top of the water so we never got in. Beach is nice. However, the vendors are overbearing. Also, in order to get a decent place to sit, u have to be up at the crack of dawn as people bring their towels and belongings and leave them for hours to hold a chair. We sat all day and towels were on the seats beside us as the people came at almost 6 pm, gathered them and left. The resort personnel need to stop allowing this. PROPERTY: Overall well kept. However, cats are everywhere. Therefore, if you’re allergic, stay away from here. Mosquitos are HORRIBLE! They eat regular bug repellent. OVERALL: I do NOT recommend this property. I wouldn’t care if they offered a free vacation here, I’ll pass! Granted good customer service makes up for a lot but that’s missing as well. Trip type

Good adults only resort for the price.
Went with 3 friends. Booked through a travel agent and requested 2 rooms with 2 beds each. You need to remember this is a request and not guaranteed. We ended up with one room with 2 beds and one room with a king sized bed. Despite doing a check in from home, in person check in could have been smoother. The delay in part though was due to our group of 4 hoping for two rooms with 2 beds. Although check in is at 3pm, we finally checked in to our rooms at 5:30pm. Building 72 is a great location. Close to main lobby, buffet and pool. Over all quiet and not even a 5 minute walk to the beach. Doors difficult to close and close with a loud bang. Resort is extremely clean. Staff is very nice and friendly. Favorite a la carte restaurant, which were booked 10 days before departure, was MASHUA Nikkei Restaurant. Buffet was decent. The one by the beach is very busy. Staff do their best to clean the tables quickly. Beach and water were beautiful. A bit of sargassum but overall not a bother. Lots of chairs available at beach and pool. Although may not be in the shade. Bring DEET spray for bugs in the evening. The resort has a lot of cats. A little skittish but very clean and friendly. Bring cat treats! They love them.

Just a great spot to relax and enjoy being treated well.
This is our favorite resort in the Dominican Republic. One small portion of a much larger complex, getting around is very easy with shuttles running on a regular basis. Aquamarine is adults only and is an excellent way for a couple to relax and enjoy life in the sun. It is the staff which make this resort so enjoyable. They always have a smile and a pleasant attitude. Any problems are resolved immediately, day or night. They are there to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible. There are several al a carte resturants and making reservations is very easy. Food is excellent weither in the buffet or the specialty restaurants. A beautiful beach is only a short trolley ride away. Miguel Ramos (one of the concierges) is always there to help if needed, weither he is on shift or at home. On check in he has our Al a carte restaurants booked before we even get our room, in fact we even talk via the internet before our arrival to discuss our expectations. . Love this resort and the staff that work there.
