Excellent resort, did the UDE dive experience

Had another excellent trip to Allegro. I came as a solo traveler for the diving. Did the UDE experience with Pro dive on site and they were also excellent (I will review them separately.) Grounds were VERY nice and always clean. Pools were sparkling clean all of the time. Staff are very friendly and always smiling. Roberto was my favorite restaurant server and he would ask me how my diving was for the day and bring my drink right away. The room was very clean and modern. I was in a ground floor unit so AC worked nicely. Only downfall was that I was in a room (6514) that could be a connecting room so the door between my room and the neighbors was paper thin. I could hear all of their conversations like I was standing in the room next to them. Just be sure to bring ear plugs just incase. I REALLY enjoy the perks of the UDE and being up at the front of the resort. Room close to the beach as well as access to the "First Club (members)" pool and Santa Rosa lounge. Santa Rosa provides a small but wonderful breakfast beside the beach and "snacks" after 10am that include hamburgers, chips and guac, and a few other things (you have to ask.) I would have a nice lunch here without the hustle of the lunch buffet. I thought the food was wonderful! SO many items to choose from at all of the buffets and they are very nicely presented. A LOT of time goes into the food. I enjoyed the new espresso/coffee machines they have through the resort. I cannot wait to come back. I will be trying to do 2 trips per year to Allegro.

Absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to return!

We went as a large family of 17 with 5 kids for one week and stayed as a couple for one week. We are still enjoying our last few days but wanted to provide some early feedback. This resort has been fantastic. Our 6 year old granddaughter loved the kids club and the two workers were absolutely fantastic with the kids. The 14, 12 and 10 year old played constantly on the water slides and made great memories! My daughters and I enjoyed the pool, the sun, and the fantastic service from the very amazing staff that work so hard here. The guys played volleyball at the pool while we cheered as well as on the beach. We enjoyed the different shows each night and the disco. Also fantastic with the staff working hard to keep guests happy. We have been diving ..double tank dives and there is so much to see without having to go long distances. Angel, Ryan and the rest of the sports staff made the trip even more enjoyable!

A pleasant stay in a beautiful place

Pros. Clean, nice staff, entertainment, beautiful grounds. Standard rooms are decent size rooms for two adults ( if you only bring carry-on amount of items) otherwise it may get crowded. Stocked refrigerator with basics - beer, water, pop, juice, but not super cold. Daily entertainment at pools, theater and disco at night, family movies, water games at the pools, karaoke, live music etc. Hosts Angel and Michael and the DJs are great! The blacklight show was probably the best of the week. There was a break dance contest that we missed on night one, as well as a live band, and Caribbean Dance show that was really good. There is a pool table, foosball and air hockey. Some board games, cards or other options might be a nice addition, as we had several days of heavy rains. Perhaps these were offered in the past and CV19 made it difficult to keep sanitized. The server at the buffet, Carlos aka "Chocolata" and his Mayan Flaming Coffee is a don't miss event and the best coffee, bananas  flambe' and Irish coffee you will have during your visit. This is an experience you don't to miss! Carlos and Si'mon were the highlight of our visit! Table side flaming Mayan coffee, bananas flambe' and flaming Irish whiskey! #getsome! Spa and fitness center on site, small and clean. 2 separate spa facilities w one offering various types of massages. Olga and Marisol are wizard massage experts!  Go extra and add the jacuzzi, steam and sauna before your massage! (at the time of our visit there was no added charge) The other spa offers footbath, fish doctor footbath (if preferred) , reflexology, manicure, pedicure and hair braiding. The massage spa is part of the hotel, the other is independent and run by a lovely woman named Sophia who works magic on your feet. Both spas are located outside the front entrance, across from the fitness center. There is a private, by appointment only, jacuzzi that can be  booked daily and was no extra charge. Schedule this at the massage spa. Do not call it a hot tub, as that may confuse staff. Say jacuzzi. We would have not known of this at all had we not seen it on the commercial in the room and had to ask about this service. Cons. Food, Special services, Noise and Smoking. Food - First - If you do not get in line on your first morning on site to make reservations for the 3 reservation required restaurants you will not get a reservation, also premier guests (we were standard guests) receive priority reservations but even some in our group who we're premier status got boxed out of any reservations. After nearly an hour in line to make reservations, we had to eat as late as 9pm in some instances, and at many times more than a 1/3 of tables were empty. Second, the food was often mediocre, while it did seem to improve a few days in, It's still not great. With a nearly captive audience the resort might consider making improvements in this area.  HOWEVER, some food was outstanding, roast turkey, baked chicken, fried chicken, the sushi and tempura bar and stir fry night at the buffet we're out of this world, so nice we took photos. The BEST meal was hibachi!   Additionally, where food is concerned, unlike other resorts we visit, there is no place for standard guests in between regular restaurant hours to get snacks or small items to eat unless you grabbed something from the hotel gift shop, which was closed several times during listed operating hours. However, during the times we were looking for snacks or something in between - on at least three occasions - we saw what appeared to be room service being delivered. Perhaps this was something set up in advance or something special for guests, because when asked we were told there was no room service. This was nothing fancy, maybe fresh fruit plates, champagne, etc. We did not see full meals being delivered. Take your chances at the small store across-the street for snacks. No prices listed and they most definitely take advantage of tourists. But the La Hacienda Iguana located right across the street had some of the best food we found. Oscar, his wife Leslie and mom run a great shop. They close at 5pm. If you are not a premier guest, with a black wristband, or First Premier (silver bands) there are several  differences in the rooms and services available. They have private check in at a private facility near the premier cabins, special ability to book activities and reservations, premier rooms include robes and slippers, washcloths, shower loofah, etc, standard rooms do not have any of this. Premier members also have access to a private pool, private beach, private bar that is enclosed and air conditioned with snacks and meals, but a  limited menu.  Although for 2 days the premier bar offered no food or snacks at all at any time. If you are not a premier member they will rightfully ask you to leave these areas. We also saw a special beach side dinner with lights, candles, flowers etc on the private beach. When we asked for replacement towels for 2 adults, 3 days into a week-long stay, we could only get 2 towels. Ended up taking towels to a cleaning cart to exchange dirty for clean when no one was looking. They will not give standard guests washcloths, and they will only allow you one hand towel for some strange reason. When asking the front desk for assistance it took multiple requests and many hours to receive items like tissues. Side note we opted not to have our room serviced daily, thus the need to request items. The AC quit working on our 5th day but the hotel was responsive to getting this addressed. The next day we lost water, TV and internet due to heavy rains. No comps were offered in any instances of issues.  The resort might consider adding screens to all windows so guests can open the windows at times like this. We were on the second floor but the side window did not lock had this been the patio we likely would have asked to have this fixed. It appeared that the premier buildings and others around us had window screens. The noise may be off putting for some. If your rooms is near the front area close to the theater or disco, or facing the pools you can expect to be bounced out of bed up to 11pm, or later, if the Disco is hopping. Even some of our group members at the back of the property stated that they could still feel the bass from the disco music. Take ear plugs.  Smoking -  We could not use our balcony due to the 2 units on the other side with sometimes multiple smokers on those patios anytime we went outside. This also happened at the theater at the last show and made it hard to enjoy the show. The resort might consider having only designated smoking areas, or designate blocks of buildings as smoking v non so all guests can enjoy their patios and common areas. I have TONS of photos but this site is simply not working to load them. Tried 2 days in a row. All in all a decent stay in a beautiful place.

Amazing resort with amazing staff! Brian and Eliezer are super fun and energetic! Made the holiday fun!! We are having an amazing time. Food is great and staff is awesome! Love the palapa room styles, it’s a great lay out. Good beach front as well compared to the adjacent resorts.
