    Underwhelming!

We booked this hotel for one night. On arrival at 2pm our room wasn’t ready which we expected and not a problem. We left our luggage with reception. On our return a couple of hours later we went to our room which was classed as ‘cosy’ - well yes it definitely was, but fine for 1 night. I went to the window to open the shutters to get some light in and was shocked to see a lady sitting on a sofa in the lounge area of the reception!! Not quite what I was expecting my view to be!!! We assumed the window from the lounge area must be mirrored to prevent people looking into the room (we were ground floor) but no, they could see us as clearly as we could see them!! Hence the shutters and curtains were closed for the duration of our stay making the already ‘cosy’ room feel even more claustrophobic. I then had a knock at the door and was greeted by a gentleman asking me when I would be leaving and did I need help??! Erm no thank you, I’ve literally just got in here! On check in we were told the drinks in the mini bar were all complimentary - lovely!! When I opened the mini bar there was literally 1 tiny bottle of milk and that was it!!! The room was absolutely boiling and it took a while (and a lesson from the maintenance man who came for another issue) to cool it down (albeit only slightly). The shower trap in our bathroom was broken so after 2 showers the water hadn’t drained away and flooded our bathroom floor, soaking the bath mat and we used our towels to mop the floor. Maintenance did attend quickly and attempted to fix the problem but then had to take the part away and said he would come back and sort when we had gone out which he did. Due to the mess and use of towels from the broken shower we asked at reception for our bathroom to have fresh towels as we’d had to use them. We were assured this would be done before we returned. This didn’t happen. No fresh towels or bath mats. Also the shower gel was empty and the hand wash bottle fell off the wall. We rang reception this morning as we couldn’t remember if we’d booked breakfast with our room which we hadn’t. My husband asked how much it was and he was told if we’d booked it yesterday it would have been £16 a head but now it was £27 a head!! If this had been mentioned at check-in we would probably have booked it but instead we went to a local bakery. This room was definitely not worth over £400 a night, we will not return.

Great for Museums. Has a nice - quality - vibe.

This was a stay where - due to an evening engagement - I spent little time in the hotel apart from sleeping. That said, I really liked the place. Lovely lady on reception, impressive public rooms, good breakfast buffet. The hotel is a well-designed maze of corridors - very narrow and with moody lighting on the ground floor. My room was compact but with a big bed. The room window actually faced into one of the public rooms rather than outside. It’s a 7 minute walk to South Ken tube. Lots of hotels and one decent pub (Zetland Arms) in the immediate vicinity. Handy for museums. It would have been good to have spent more time there - but I’ll look out for it next time I’m booking a London hotel.

Fabulous Hotel in a Smart Part if London

Fabulous hotel in a lovely part of South Kensington which is near the Royal Albert Hall and South Kensington Tube Station. Beautiful interior, very comfortable bed and lovely Moulton Brown complimentary toiletries together with slippers with Coffee and Tea making facilities. Excellent friendly efficient staff. My husband and I will definitely be returning and hopefully soon next year 🫶
