    Great Vacation at the Westin

My wife and I just returned from a relaxing seven night vacation at the Westin Reserva Conchal. Because we traveled without children, we decided to upgrade to the adults only Westin Club upon arrival. It was the best decision we made for this trip. The Club area provided a peaceful retreat with a dedicated pool where we could consistently find a lounge chair, even if we strolled down around nine in the morning. For us, one of the best aspects of this property is how it is built into nature, and the sound of howler monkeys howling in the trees was an incredible experience (though not overly loud within the rooms). The freely roaming wildlife surprisingly kept to themselves without being intrusive. Overall, we saw iguanas, diverse bird species that would thrill any bird watcher, raccoons, and coatis wandering the grounds. The absolute shining stars of this resort are the staff members. Employees like Emerson, Brian, Kevin, Vinnie, Wenkel, and especially Gabriel at Faisanella made our trip unforgettable. Their genuine kindness and tireless work ethic completely elevated our daily experience. While the staff is extraordinary, the dining experience was a bit of a mixed bag and required some stressful planning. We had to set an alarm for 8am every morning at breakfast just to navigate the app for dinner reservations, while sometimes battling the wifi. We were thankful for no lines or long waits on non-reservation nights. The food overall was fairly good, with a few hits and misses. Our absolute favorite spot was Faisanella, which serves as the exclusive breakfast and lunch restaurant for all Westin Club guests. We preferred this over the main Mitra Market buffet, which felt a bit too chaotic with less healthy options for us. For dinner, we highly recommend getting an early seating at Cauri to watch the sunset over tapas. We also enjoyed the short rib at La Sabana, but we suggest skipping Spirula for dinner and only visiting for their poolside pizza. We did not spend much time at the beach at all. Because it is public, resort amenities or drink services on the sand are not convenient, and you are immediately approached by vendors upon entering/exiting the gates. We felt uneasy leaving our belongings unattended, so we preferred the comfort of the club pool. We did book a wonderful beach massage with Amanda, also known as Lady in Blue. For forty dollars an hour, listening to the crashing ocean waves was incredibly relaxing. Knowing that we wanted to explore beyond the resort, we booked an off-property excursion with the highly recommended Erik G. You can easily spot him near the beach entrance wearing his signature blue Google shirt. Once booked, coordinating with him via WhatsApp was seamless. We booked an adventure that included waterfall visit, authentic coffee and chocolate tour, followed by a visit to see sloths. Our private tour guide/driver, Sergio, was fantastic. We saw five sloths in total, including a very cute baby right up close! Having a private driver was a great experience, and the price was reasonable per person compared to a crowded group rate by other companies (which we were informed of later). The personalized attention and flexibility we received made the slight price increase completely worth it. Erik G is incredibly reliable and ensures a perfect day. To make the most of your stay, there are a few tips you should keep in mind. First, be prepared for a minimum ninety-minute drive to get to any excursions or to/from the airport, depending on traffic. Second, the resort serves poolside drinks in aluminum cups (similar to solos) that sweat instantly in the Costa Rican heat, so an insulated cup or koozie is a lifesaver. Finally, make sure that you remember to bring plenty of cash with you. Tipping for great service goes a long way with the hardworking staff, and using cash with the local vendors and excursion guides helps you avoid the steep tax applied to credit cards. Overall, this was a fantastic trip to Costa Rica at the Westin, filled with beautiful wildlife, outstanding hospitality, and cherished memories.

    Superlative on all fronts

Arrived late at the property, barely enough time to get dinner before the restaurant closes. The congenial staff immediately surrounded my mother and me, transporting our luggage to the lobby and guiding me to the check-in counter. Once they realized my mother’s mobility difficulties, we were upgraded to a room equipped with railings in the restroom area at no charge. Afterward, they ushered us to a lovely restaurant and a bar in the main lobby, where we could get last minute dinner before the closing. The property’s terrain is vast, and while main sites such as restaurants, the pool, the beach, the gym, and bars are accessible on foot, there are plenty of electric cars to transport guests around the property. We were upgraded to an exclusive area with its own dedicated pool, a chic restaurant, excellent amenities, and a dedicated staff. The convivial staff around the Westin property were extremely courteous and obliging. They always went above and beyond to make our stay super enjoyable. There are plenty of restaurants serving different cuisines (booking required) that offer sumptuous meals. The Seafood, Italian, Costa Rican, and Mediterranean restaurants are MUST try. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of closet space, an iron, an open minibar, 24-hour room service, a filtered water dispenser (offering cold, room-temperature, and hot water), an espresso machine, and a tea service. The bathroom had plenty of room and amenities. I highly recommend this high-end, exclusive resort and will return again. Thank you, Brayn at the front desk, Javire and Jeffry at the clubhouse, you were awesome. Thank you, Franklin and Patricia in the Mitra Market for welcoming me with your warm smiles and manners.

Westin Resort and Spa Playa Conchal

We had the absolute best vacation here at the Westin Conchal Reserva! From the time we checked in to the days ahead! We tried several of their lovely restaurants and have NOT been disappointed at any of them! We are here basically for the all inclusive and also for the wonderful wild life that Cost Rica has to offer! We happened upon a man named Eric G at the beach with a blue Google shirt on and struck up a conversation with him. We found out that he has a business of planning excursions and we told him what we wanted to see. He put together a couple of packages for us at a good price and we jumped on it! We were NOT disappointed! Our dream adventure was met and we enjoyed every minute of it! We will definitely be back!

Westin Reserva Conchal - March 2026

We booked this vacation through Costco which included round trip transport from/to airport to hotel. Was very helpful and smooth. The trip was about 2 hours from airport and 1:15 to airport. Can vary greatly by time of day and construction. At the hotel we were promptly greeted and driven to the Westin Club. Check-in took about 15-20 minutes and again went smoothly. We were then in our rooms a short time later in Tower 1 - adults only. The adults only section was nice in that we had a kids free pool experience. Chairs were readily available even 4 together. Around 9am this would've been more difficult. The restaurant, Faisonella, was in the club section and it was adults only for breakfast and lunch. It was sit down, but service throughout was wonderful. We (twosome) did golf on property at the hotel and it was a great course. We booked ahead for a morning tee time, but didn't seem too full. The round was $180/person in March and took 3 hours and 50 minutes. We did play the replay round as it was only $50 same day. The rate included cart, and range balls (would let you go to range 40 minutes prior to tee time). If you want to just go over and hit balls it's a charge of $35/person. There is a little short game area as well as a large putting green. The course was in great shape. We played morning round at 6600 yards and afternoon round around 6000 yards. Scores were pretty consistent with home course. It got more windy in the afternoon, but was not too burdensome to play in the 95F weather all day. Cart beverages were plentiful (soda $3, beer $4). They start you out with a cooler of ice and 3 bottles of water as well. We took about 1.5 hours between rounds and walked over to the Mitra Buffet (on Westin property) to have a buffet lunch. It is so nice to have this so close and saves some money. Course was in great shape. Lots of roll out. Green putted smoothly, but had more break than you anticipate. There were several elevated tees and overall more undulation than you would think being so close to ocean level. Our afternoon round took 2 hours 50 minutes and no one was in front or behind us. Plenty of challenge, water around, lots of large sand traps. Greens were on smaller side and had some tricky pin placements. If you hit it fairly straight you will only lose 1-2 balls/round. If you spray it you could lose 10 or more. The pro shop staff were awesome. Very friendly. Top notch. Definitely had an equivalent feel of nice, private resort golf in Florida or Arizona. The rest of the stay/services are very well covered by other customers. A couple of bits of information we discovered... Book, but don't pay for excursions until you have to. Everyone allows this and you can cancel 24 hours prior to excursion without penalty. We did the ATV tour. It was close to hotel and lasted about 1.5 hours. Was $100/couple and we took the 2-rider vehicles. Worked ok, but it is pretty rough and dusty. The vehicles are easy to drive and it would probably be more comfortable if everyone had their own. We stopped at a couple of rural beaches and got up to speeds of about 35-40 KMH max. We booked through Erik G. I got his number off Google and used WhatsApp to contact him directly. He was very responsive and helpful. We had booked La Leona Waterfall through him and ended up cancelling about 36 hours prior due to someone in our group having a mild GI illness. No problems or hassles. We did a Food Lab/Private Chef experience at Road Less Travelled (18 minute drive from hotel. This was 8 courses of Costa Rican cuisine. Was a lot of fun. Took 1.5 hours total. Was pricey ($150-180/person), but if this is your thing I would highly recommend. RLTcuisine.com. They have two seatings for four people per night at 1800 and 2000. They also offer cooking classes during the day if you want to try something different. We did some random exploring around the area. Most places take 1-2 hours to get to by car/shuttle on way. The roads are a little bumpy and if you are a car-sick person, I would recommend staying near the hotel. They are very helpful to arrange transport at Westin (especially your concierge). Pricing is about $40/hour for private shuttle. You can rent a small SUV on property (SIXT) for $150 for 24 hours, includes insurance. We elected to do this so we could do our own thing and be on our own schedule. We used the vehicle to do a boat estuary tour, visit the town of Tamarindo (Beachy, touristy, restaurants, souvenir shops). Worked great. Driving is same side as US, but just a little crazy, but doable if you feel up for it. Google and Apple Maps worked well throughout our travels, but we did have a hard copy map just in case. We got pretty remote and did not have issues with connectivity. Gas was $0.60/liter when we filled up, actually they pump the gas for you. At the resorts the restaurants had good food. Lots of options for everyone's restrictions if you have any. We were able to book times in the 3 reserved restaurants even by mid morning. We like eating early so we ate 5-5:30. The Mitra Buffett was very good and had lots of options. It's not expected but I would suggest bringing $1's and $5's with you. For a week we brought 100 - $1's and $100 - $5's. We would tip the pool drink guy $1+ and leave a $5 at meals. This perpetuated even better service, friendly conversations, laughs and our glasses were never empty. :). We tipped our concierges and cleaning people at the end of the trip. They work so hard and are so friendly. We also tipped at the end of the excursions for the guides. Gratuity if you eat out is added in (10%) and there is a 13% flat tax on everything you buy. Rooms were nice in the club. King bed, comfy mattress. We have foam mattress at home and I had no issue on this bed. Pillows are feather based. No international adapters needed for powering devices. Can use what you use in the US (2 prong, not 3). They have some direct USB-C outlets but throughout the country was more of older USB outlets if you are charging directly. Can be tougher for newer smartphones if you are trying to run all day on a single charge out in the country. Come ready to relax and enjoy the laid back pace. The country is beautiful and the people were lovely. We will be back. Pura Vida!

    Fabulous Family Vacation!!

A beautiful resort with an incredible pool and gracious staff that are oh so helpful!! We loved getting to walk the grounds and see monkeys everywhere. The swim up bar was perfect and the kids even loved their time at kids club!! We could sit on our porch and watch the monkeys play and loved walking the beach. Erik G was the guy on the beach organizing tours and did a phenomenal job helping us out! We have a 6 and 8 year old and he organized the perfect tour horseback riding on the beach!! Once we were done our girls were asking us when we could go again. If you need a great tour, he’s your guy!! We will definitely return to the Westin when in Costa Rica!
