Average Hotel with Above Average Prices
We stayed at the San Juan Marriott for a week at the end of February. This is the first time I've felt it necessary to make a list of my experiences (both good and bad) to include in my review. First the Pros: The location of this hotel is perfect, within walking distance to multiple restaurants, shops and drug stores. Housekeeping was spectacular! They always found time to make up our room regardless of when we left during they day and did a great job at keeping things tidy. They never failed to leave 3 bottles of water and restock the toiletry items. Next the Cons: Our room wasn't ready at the check in time of 4 and we ended up waiting until 4:45 to check in. While we waited for check in, we visited the spa to make massage appointments. During the entire week of our reservation, we couldn't get even ONE couples massage. I've never had this experience before and was very disappointed. Luckily we visited the Vanderbilt Hotel multiple times for spa treatments during our week's stay and they were wonderful. By day 2 we couldn't use streaming services on the tv in the room. After several calls they finally sent a technician who had to work for about an hour to fix it. The TV volume would not go over a certain setting--which was ok most times but we were above the hotel's outdoor venue and in the evenings they had VERY LOUD music from 5-10 pm and you couldn't watch tv or do anything else due to noise. The last complaint I will mention is the worst one--other reviews mention a mildew smell and there is a VERY STRONG mildew smell in the room. While I've stayed elsewhere with a slight smell, this room was really bad. Be prepared to wash everything when you return home. The staff was just ok-some friendly, some not. For this price I expected better and will book a different hotel on my return to Puerto Rico.

Amazing service
We decided to book this hotel for our last night in Puerto Rico and it exceeded our expectations. The service and staff were amazing. I wish I could remember her name (possibly Lisa) in the breakfast restaurant but she was truly wonderful. My 8 year old loved swimming in the ocean waves. We thoroughly enjoyed our ocean front balcony in the tower, just would have preferred two queen beds instead of 2 doubles. Would definitely stay here again! Everything was just so easy and the staff seems to truly care that you have a great time. Thank you!

Five Star Treatment at a Four Star Hotel
I have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for a week during my first visit to Puerto Rico. As my review title indicates, I've had better treatment at this hotel compared to five star hotels I've stayed at before, even though I booked in during one of the busiest weeks for tourism in Puerto Rico. Staff members proactively greeted me in English (this should not be expected everywhere you go in PR, so it's noteworthy), remembered my name as I stayed without the elaborate process that five star resorts have to pull that off, and clearly take pride in both their work quality as well as Puerto Rico itself. The balcony room I had on the city side was impeccably clean and well-kept by housekeeping. Despite being city side, noise was extremely low compared to the urban location I live in. From an amenities perspective, I ate at most of the restaurants on-property in addition to the multiple restaurants across the street. Laundry service was indeed same-day delivery. The pool includes multiple poolside / cabana type bars with beach towel service. Two pharmacies, both with expanded grocery-store style selections to include beer as well as liquor are right next to the hotel if you want some additional items not found in the market. From a location perspective, despite being right in Condado, it worked out well. With a rental car from the airport (Enterprise has an office onsite also), in traffic I was able to take a freeway drive from the airport within 30 minutes. I drove throughout the island, so I used the valet service which again was well-staffed and promptly pulled my car up when I called from my hotel room. From the property, despite being beachside, you can quickly get to the freeway system (called Las Autopistas de Puerto Rico), and when you get on the freeway it's right at the interchange for Puerto Rico Highway 22 to get to the western side of the island, or Highway 26 to get you over to El Yunque to the east decently quickly. I used Uber to get into Old San Juan (also near the primary Cruise Ship Terminal) and it is about a 20 - 30 minute ride depending on traffic for a really good price compared to places like Washington, DC. The only downside to this property is that the while it does have a casino, folks should manage their expectations and view this casino as more of an amenity than one that you would find as a primary attractor to the property like in Las Vegas. The casino space, while premium in style and looks, was really, really small in size. There were not many table games being played during the day, no poker room (just one or two 3 card poker tables) and the bar within the casino space was empty. This is minor though as again the primary draw of the property is the beach and being in Puerto Rico. I had an amazing time at this property, with amazing service, and despite the premium price paid, I would readily stay here again when I am in Puerto Rico next time. Staff here did a great job of setting the standard for hospitality and representing the Marriott brand well.

Billed in Error
I booked this property a few months ago because my wife and I are taking a yacht trip out of San Juan for Valentine’s Day. The property looked nice and convenient on the Marriott website. A couple of days before my trip I noticed I got a charge for far more than the rate that was on my booking. The charge was also put on the wrong card. I called my Marriott Ambassador and asked them to look into it, and they called the hotel and they admitted they made a mistake. I was told I had to address this with the hotel when I checked in. This was terribly inconvenient. It was there mistake. When I got to the hotel, I got the credit, but the manager had no explanation of why it happened. I did not even get an apology. This really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If I had not caught this, would they have just accepted the overly inflated charge??

5 star experience, but at these prices it better be.
Everything is perfect at this resort. Rooms are super clean. Mattress is comfortable. Nice, long comfortable feather pillows -4 of them on the king bed. Plenty of towels. A/C runs quiet, doesn't blow on the bed, and the temperature is easy to adjust and self-explanatory. There's a small fridge, bottles of water replenished daily. Nice balcony with sitting area. Pool area open to 10:30 (or 11PM?), 1 cold, 1 heated with swim up bar, 1 hot tub. Nice sandy beach right on the property. The water in February was even warmer than the heated pool. Waves were strong, but that's part of the fun. Though I heard the current can be dangerous. Elevators are incredibly fast. There was always one available and it took me to and from the 18th floor in no time. Breakfast was a good spread, complete with Puerto Rican specialties and more gourmet items like lox. Not sure if it's worth the $40 though. Only thing is the price. Fortunately a company paid my stay, but it comes out to like $500 per night for the time I was there. On my own, I'd probably choose something a little bit less exorbitant. But even at decent places, there are usually little issues -whether it's bed comfort, shower pressure, whatever. It was nice to stay in a place where there were none at all.
- AdvisoryThe following mandatory hotel-imposed fees are charged and collected by the hotel either at check-in or check-out. Resort fee: $65 (Plus Taxes) per room, per night Mandatory hotel-imposed fees may not include tax and are subject to change, this is an estimate of what you will be charged. The hotel can provide current fees and inclusions when you check-in.
- AdvisoryThe hotel has completed the lobby and front desk remodel. Lobby looks fantastic, much more space and a more personalized front desk.
- AdvisoryThe renovation at the resort has now been completed, which unveils a stunning new chapter for this iconic destination. With refreshed rooms, reimagined spaces, and an infusion of modern elegance, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to elevate the guest experience. Whether you’re savoring sunset views by the pool or unwinding in the sleek, stylish interiors, the Resort is ready to welcome you to a renewed paradise where comfort and beauty meet the spirit of Puerto Rico.
