Choose alternate options! This is the worst in Cancun
I was very disappointed with my stay at the Royalton Riviera Cancun. The beach was in terrible condition — full of mud and seaweed — and definitely not the beautiful, swimmable beach we were expecting. The main pool was uncomfortably cold, and even the hot tub wasn’t actually hot, which made it hard to enjoy the resort amenities. Another major issue was mosquitos. It doesn’t seem like the property treats for them at all, because they were everywhere, making it difficult to sit outside, relax, or enjoy the evenings. On top of that, the service was extremely slow. Any time we needed something fixed in the room, it took between 3–5 hours for someone to show up. Overall, this was a really bad hotel experience for us, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Expected more from the hotel
Lots of staff but not everyone very efficient at doing their job! Very long wait to check in, and rooms not allocated before arrival so it was very slow after a long journey. Gym is 10/10, Edgar in particular held an excellent indoor cycling class!

The Royalton is not as great as it used to be.
The diamond club concierge is not great. We initially had an excellent concierge named Gabi. She was reassigned after 2 days and then the service went down hill. We travelled with three families and the diamond club concierges were unable to figure out our dinner reservations or made mistakes about 80% of the time. It would be a huge benefit to have Gabi deal with customers as she is an experienced professional and is able to make guests feel comfortable and confident that their needs will be met. Juve in the lobby lounge was awesome! He is an excellent bartender and is able to create the most unique and delicious drinks. He is a real asset to Royalton. We have been to this hotel multiple times and the food quality has definitely declined. Pedro at Armadillo and Mani at the Italian restaurant provided outstanding service. The water for showering was generally lukewarm. During our 12 day stay, we had hot water on one day. Hopefully the Royalton will return back to being a five star experience once the new management figures things out.

Do not recommend
We just concluded our stay at the Royalton Riviera Cancun. The facility is somewhat clean and there is ample staff however it is poorly managed. Upon arrival our check in process was anything short of smooth. We paid for a beach front suite and were given a smaller pool view room. When we complained they tried to dispute our reservation room type and said they were interchangeable. Then they promised to move us 3 days later and that they would make it up to us but then they went radio silent. To be clear we were simply trying to get the more expensive room we paid for and received nothing but a downgrade for the same price. Then we attempted to use the jacuzzi bath tub in the room. Once filled we were unable to empty it. We asked our “butler” for help and 12 hours later when it started to leak from the base onto the floor it was emptied. We did not try to use it there after. The lines for everything are an issue. To get a snack at the pool or an omelet expect to wait 30-35 minutes at a minimum at any time of day. Also restaurant reservations are near impossible to secure and the app is useless (we even attempted to email in advance to no avail). Even when we tried 2-4 days in advance to book the app is either not functioning or no reservations to be found. Same for classes you cannot book anything in advance and they don’t follow their app times/ description. Most importantly all of the pools are frigid and the stretch of beach at the property is not inviting there are insane amounts of seaweed and the color is beige/ green. Also they do not spray anything for mosquitos and outdoor dining is miserable. Everyone in my family is coming back with swollen legs and my daughter’s face too from all the bites. I would not recommend this property to anyone.
