The best hotel I have ever Stayed in BUT 2 VERY IMPORTANT things that you should think about before booking it.

I always ask myself, would I stay there again? The answer is DEFINATELY NO. The main reason for this is the food. It is very well prepared, tastes lovely, but always just warm or cold. This is a shame that the chefs or management don't care about how it is after it has left the kitchen. The insanity is that they have the best type of servery, a water filled bain marie, but for the water to keep the food hot it as to be in contact with the servery inserts as the water WILL NOT heat the air between the water and the food trays enough. The only way to get a hot meal is to have it cooked to order and then comes the next stupidity. No hot plates to put the hot food on, so it goes cold. It wouldn't cost much to give the Diner THE OPTION to use a hot plate by having a couple of mobile plate warmers. The food is something that is served poorly three times a day. If you managers disagree with this, just put some of one or two of these dishes onto a plate and taste it. Try the scrambled eggs at breakfast. Do not electronic probe it, as you will not know the correct way of doing this and will only take the temperature of the serving dish. The lack of care at this stage is appalling. there is also the FOOD SAFETY aspect (Yes I know that we are not in the UK) as food SHOULD be served at 60c or above. You can only put this down to lack of training or correct training. Also as you walk into the food area there is normally 2 or 3 guys stood there scrolling on their phones. MAYBE A LITTLE INTEREST in the food would be better. I did hear one customer asking why the food is always cold and he was told if you plate up a meal and give it to a chef, they will microwave it for you. PATHETIC. There is no excuse for this JUST POOR MANAGEMENT AND TRAINING. You could say what do I know, but as now retired from 40+ years, starting as a Chef, then kitchen manager and then Head of Chef Training for one of the biggest UK Catering employers, I think that I know a little about what I am saying. This takes me onto the training of the waiting staff. You sit and have a meal and if you need a spoon you have to go and find one as they are not on all the tables. If you eat your main course and go for a sweet (Don't have cheesecake. It is NOTHING like cheesecake) when you come back your Hot drink, which you have to get from the bar upstairs and bring down, because they only serve WARM drinks in the restaurant and everything else on the table has been cleared. No, the restaurant is not so busy that they need the tables. It is lack of training. They also have 5 or 6 other restaurants where the food is cooked to order, but again served on cold plates or serving dishes. THE STAFF ARE AMAZING and are only let down by lack of knowledge through lack of the correct training. Or DISINTEREST by Management. Please do not insult the Mexicans, by thinking " This is Mexico, not the UK" They seem to have chefs that can cook a great meal. Just let down by poor training on how to keep the food hot. Now the second important thing you need to consider. The location of the hotel is terrible IF YOU WANT TO leave the hotel complex to see surrounding area. If you want to go into Cancun it is $65 US Dollars each way and they have the monopoly on Taxis and Excursions because there is no competition, so you pay top dollar. If you want to stay at an equivalent hotel in a better area, then pick an hotel on the Boulevard Kukulcan where it will cost you around £1.50 each way to go into Can Cun and you can walk to shops and get good prices on excursions, as there is so much competition. I wish I had this information or done more research before staying at the Royalton Riviera. Now we will get the management saying that this will be looked into etc, BUT I did bring this to their attention via my holiday rep near the beginning of my holiday and nothing changed. It will also be interesting to see if others bring this up in the months ahead. All I will say to the management is get some plate warmers to give diners THE OPTION to have hot plates and get someone who knows about large scale catering to train your staff in food service.

    3 wonderful nights

Me and my family stayed here for three nights and must say we were impressed with this property, after reading a lot of negative reviews we were a little sceptical when we made our booking as we were charged quite a bit for a room roughly around C$1300 due to the reason we are a family of five but must say we were impressed by our stay. This hotel has everything you need the buffet was absolutely fantastic with a wide variety of food and desserts. There was also a bunch of food trucks located all along the property but served hamburgers tacos and was great for the kids. They also had a barbeque by the pool every day which served a different variety of burgers meats etc. To any families booking this hotel there is no waterpark at this hotel but they do have a kids pool that has a couple small slides and the kids had a great time. The property was fairly clean given its massive size and the staff was always ready to help. A special thank you to all the staff at the kids club our kids absolutely loved it and the people there were wonderful. Like any chain hotel they have a timeshare program which they try to sell you upon check-in we have to say no a couple times before we were left alone but that’s the nature of the business . We booked the presidential suite which was room number 4506 and 4507 with the swim out pool my only issue was I wish they had a heater as the pool was fairly cold and not enjoyable.

    Diamond club

The resort is very nice, lots of restaurants and bars. First we got room 5309, unfortunately in this room it was very bed smell and the view is of the roof and chimneys from the Mexican restaurant. This room is located on the main hall near the lobby, the noise at night is unacceptable. The next day we got room number 6302 and here we stayed for our entire vacation. Very nice room (not renovated) very clean and well maintained. It is a room with a jacuzzi outside and ocean front. We were assigned a butler named Alberto, a very hardworking young man, he was easy to contact via whatsApp also when he was on shift you could see him everywhere. Every request we had was dealt with immediately with a smile on his face. Thank you very much Alberto, thanks to you our vacation was great. There is a very large selection of food in the buffet and in each a la carte restaurant. The service everywhere is very nice and friendly. If there was anything I didn't like it was only the wind but who is responsible for these inconveniences? ha ha ha :) Royalton thank you very much for a very nice vacation The photos are views from our balcony
