Great place!
We loved this resort. If you want a place to relax ,a retreat. This is great. The food, service ,dinners, were great. The beach was beautiful. Small but okay. We love decks when we go. Unfortunately no deck to sit out on in the evening, but wouldn’t stop us from coming back. Otherwise this place is beautiful ,quiet. Ocean water is great for swimming. Enjoyed watching the boats and cruise ships going by. The road out of the resort is excellent for walking. We met wonderful people here and will definitely be back .

Crocodiles
A guest was severely injured by a large crocodile at around 4:30 pm while he was swimming within the Occidental resort's marked beachfront swim area during my March 2026 stay. I was informed by staff that the man was taken to hospital for surgery and he survived. The resort closed the ocean for that day and the day after the attack. Afterwards, I saqw that the are was being patrolled by staff and government personnel. I was told that crocodiles live in the mangroves adjacent to the resort and I did not see any installed barriers in the ocean that would prevent a similar croc attack. Be careful!!!!!!!

Family vacation
The resort is big yet small feel! We loved how safe we felt in that our kids could go back to our room and we didn't have to worry about their safety!

Disappointment
I would like to share my experience as it may help others. The hotel is small and surrounded by beautiful greenery, which is its only positive aspect. The rooms are very old and appear unclean due to their condition, and the bedding was not clean (I have photos). There are not enough sunbeds or umbrellas by the beach or pool, and guests must wake up very early to reserve a spot. The beach has strong sun with no shade, making it uncomfortable. The service is average, with very limited entertainment. The hotel is not suitable for children or elderly guests due to the lack of facilities and the many stairs to access the beach. It is also very windy along the shoreline. Overall, I was very disappointed with my stay and would not recommend this hotel, as it seems more focused on membership sales than guest comfort.

OK for a small resort
We've been going to all inclusive resorts for over 30 years. This resort has good qualities and less than good qualities. I'll share both for the reader to decide. Check-in Was a fairly smooth process. Others have commented on rooms not having a safe or mini fridge and that is what they told us we had at first. They offered free room service to go with it. We declined and asked for a room with a safe. There was a "let me talk to the manager" period and then they gave us another room as requested. We were told we had to return the next morning for dinner reservations. We had no problem getting them the next day, but had to make sure we were there by 9:30 as they said they book up fast. Room The room was very nice with comfortable beds. They seemed updated and were clean. One thing that we often have issues with is the air conditioning and it worked great here. The towels were always fresh and fridge stocked. That was important as this resort does not have refillable water jugs and stations. So we depended on the bottled water that was stocked. Restaurants We all thought the al la carte's were very good. I like seafood and found the fish was always cooked well. Many resorts overcook fish and make it tough. The buffets however were lacking. It was similar to most resort buffets, however there was not much variety. Things that were good sometimes ran out, but would get replaced eventually. There was also no beach/pool area snack bar. If you wanted a snack you had to go into the lunch buffet and be seated. (it was open until 5) There was a pizza snack bar up near the lobby but it opened after 9:30PM for the night crowd. Pool/Beach The beach pool was average, I enjoyed the daily volleyball in the pool. However, there was no pool bar. We don't spend much time at one, but do enjoy going there a couple times a week. It tends to be a good place to meet others. The beach was OK but unfortunately nature had taken away much of it. There is none in front of the pool and the beach left on the side of the pool was not that great. Had to do beach walks at low tide due to the slope and thick sand. The same annoyance occurs here where people go to the beach and stake there claim on chairs early in the morning. So if you waited until after a late breakfast or morning dives you are not likely to get chairs. I saw some chairs with stuff on them not used for hours and also saw people frustrated and taking stuff off chairs. I even overheard one of the workers saying he could put towels on the chairs for someone early in the morning, I imagine for a nice tip. There were a good number of people with towels on the sand. They either need more chairs or police people taking chairs and not staying. There was a small adult only pool that did not get crowded, but we did not use because it was far from the beach and we are there to see the ocean. Staff The staff was great. All were friendly and worked hard. This resort had the most service at the pool and beach chairs with servers that I have experienced. The Grounds/Facility The landscaping was well kept and very tropical. There is a marsh area between the rooms and the beach with a bridge type walkway. However, as this is a small resort there is only one path down the center to get anywhere. It kind of makes the place feel smaller. There is no dedicated theater for the night shows. It is chairs set up on their plaza. The performers worked hard, but the shows were not to the level we have seen at other resorts. The gym was nice with plenty of cardio options and a lot of equipment for weight training. The lobby bar was nice and never crowded in the evenings. Overall, for our taste we feel there are better choices based on the size, food and beach area. But nothing was bad, and we ran into people who felt the same as we did and others who had been there multiple times.
