Doesn’t operate well at capacity
First, the good. Location is great, in the theater district, directly across the street from MOMA, a few blocks to Central Park. Rooms are spacious by Manhattan standards. The not so good….. Elevators are “interesting”. They’ve “modernized” them where you have to use a tablet near the elevator bank to choose your floor, then it assigns you an elevator car. No buttons inside the elevator anymore. The problem with this is the system seems to have no awareness of how many others it’s already assigned, or people already in the elevator. On lower floors during busy times, elevators were always jam packed completely full when they got to us. We always ended up just walking down the stairs. If the goal is modernization, at least make the elevators smart enough to know how many people fit in an elevator car. While I get that it was a busy weekend (weekend after Christmas), the hotel is not prepared to deal with maximum capacity. Long lines for everything. The Diamond Executive lounge line was 50 deep to get in during peak breakfast time. Past the stairs going to the bar. Gave up on that. Even the two lines to buy $18 breakfast sandwiches (which would be $6 anywhere else) from the warmer in the grab and go store were each 15 deep. Just crazy. Did not appreciate that they don’t even directly give Diamond members water at check-in either, but rather direct you to go get your own in the lounge. Yes, the same lounge with the 50 deep breakfast line. The lounge was also out of it a few times when we stopped by when it wasn’t busy, including when we checked in. Is providing a couple of bottles of water in the room (or at least at the check in counter) for Diamond members really too much to expect given the prices here? To summarize, great location, spacious rooms, but not a pleasant experience when at capacity.

Billing error leaves me $800 out of pocket
Although the location of this hotel was great, the service at the hotel itself is not great. We arrived 19th December. I'll start with the worst pain point - the billing! So at the start they deduct $400 from your card ($100 per night). At most hotels they simply hold this amount but at the Hilton they deduct it from your account. Then as you spend, instead of deducting it from the $400 deposit, they simply keep charging you more. I went to the front desk to ask about this and I was told that they keep charging more as the system works out your average daily spend is and then charges you the anticipated total spend. So if I spent $110 on the first night, they would charge me an additional $40 so the total taken from my account would be $440. I was told when I check out they would work out any difference and credit it back to my card. So when I checked out I was $100 in credit and was told this would be credited back to my card. Of course this has not happened - instead they took more money out! Overcharged me c.$800 in what appears to be the difference between the total bill and the original $400 (ignoring the fact they had been charging my card the whole way through my stay). I am now back in the UK having been overcharged $800 and noone at the hotel is responding. I have now reported this through the billing section of the website so hopefully someone gets back to me. Other pain points: We were told in advance about the lifts but it was truly awful - waiting up to 10 minutes each time just to get a lift. We are a family of 5 so I booked a double room with sofa bed (an executive suite I think). When we arrived the sofa bed had not been set up so I pulled this out and searched for some bedding but there none in the room. I called customer services and someone came up with a literally a sheet - no duvet or anything. I said can we please have a duvet at least like the other beds have. They returned with what I can only describe as a old grubby quilt. It had a big yellow stain on it and when I complained I was told that it is clean and that's all they have left? I couldn't believe a hotel this size does not have spare duvets!? Then I went to take a shower and alas, the shower gel bottle in the bathroom was empty - another call down to customer services to get that replaced. There was truly nothing "executive" about this room or our stay at all. Let's just hope they return my $800

Realistic review on Hilton Midtown NYC. Expect to pay a $500 refundable deposit on your stay. We knew we would have to pay a deposit (like any hotel) however $500 is a lot of money to loose unexpectedly at the beginning of your trip, so bare this in mind, as this ate into our spending money. We paid an additional fee for a double room with a city view. When arrived at the hotel we was met with a choice for a room on the 40th floor with a double and pull out bed or a double room on the 13th floor with a restricted view of the city. We chose the 40th floor and once we had reached our room, the room had looked to be used and there was one double bed and a travel cot… baring in mind this room was for 3 adults. If you want a city view, you will hear the city noise. This was expected as the streets of New York City are very busy. However, even with the windows shut you can still hear the hustle and bustle below. We would wake up in the morning with unexplainable bites all over our bodies. Unsure to what this could have been from, vents, window being opened occasionally or the beds etc. After our palaver with the bedroom situation, we were offered two complementary breakfasts for the week. These are worth around $50pp for a standard breakfast buffet. Definitely had better and cheaper outside of the hotel. Apparently they had some work going on with the elevator systems so the wait time for elevators would be around 20 minutes plus during busy periods and when you’re on a high floor the last thing you want to do is climb 20+ flights of stairs. Anyone could walk in and out of the hotel in the daytime and in the evening you had to show your room key card although this was only asked once out of the six days I was there. Other wise I just walked straight past the security guard on the door. Be prepared to pay for everything from water for your room to storing your suitcases at check-in and check-out at $5 a bag (including handbags and other small bags) There are no facilities in the hotel room like a kettle cups, tea, sugar’s coffees, etc. However, the hotel room itself had a lovely big bed, the bathroom seemed quite new. The rooms are very spacious. I wouldn’t say there’s a lot of storage but we made do. The staff were an absolute pleasure very accommodating always saying good morning holding elevated doors for you and overall making the whole experience worth it. The hotel is also local to some main attractions like: 15 minute walk to Time Square Five minute walk to the Rockefeller Centre Three minute walk to radio city A 10 minute walk to Central Park About a 25 minute walk to the empire State building And a 28 minute walk to the Summit
