We cycled in and out of the Hilton in Edinburgh twice on our trip. They were accommodating in all our requests. The breakfasts were designed to give you a good start to the day. James, the breakfast supervisor, was an outstanding servant, quick with the unending coffee. The bar/restaurant in the lobby had great food, especially their salads. Mar 19, 2026Don’t stay at Hilton Edinburgh
stayed one night at the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton, and unfortunately, my experience was terrible. Initially, I was given a room near the basement, which had a very loud engine noise. I requested a change, and they reassigned me to room 414. However, the air conditioning in that room did not work, making the night very uncomfortable. Overall, it was not a pleasant stay, and I would not recommend this hotel.

Room was filthy !!
We stayed in this hotel with a family and the main entrance and foyer etc looks ok ( outside is covered in scaffolding and not appealing on the eye ) The room is where it all fell apart for us , it was so dirty and we wouldnt be ones to complain but we had kids with us and this wasn’t acceptable. We moved the double beds and underneath them was filthy with toilet roll and toenails etc. we foned down to complain and fair enough they came up and hour later to ‘hoover’ it but this was such an awful experience . Also, on leaving we weren’t even asked how was our stay or anything at all .!!! One positive, Andrea down at breakfast was very nice and helpful. Other than that please avoid as there are much better hotels in Edinburgh as this place needs a serious clean !!! The room was stinking and a joke for a 4 star hotel !!

Breakfast with James
Wonderful place in the center of the city. James, the supervisor for the breakfast crew is the best I have seen in the business. Friendly efficient welcoming and always willing to help. He made our day every day for 6 days. The hotel is clean and very comfortable. We love James!!

Excellent stay!
Had a wonderful stay at the Carlton hotel. Had a beautiful breakfast, with plenty of choice and lots of hot food. Was greeted by Louise, and looked after by Leon who topped up my coffee which was just what I needed. My stay was excellent, clean, welcoming and the staff was second to none, will absolutely be booking again. Thankyou so much all at the hotel.
