City break
Excellent city break. My partner and I stayed at the Carlton for 3 nights last week. The Carlton is a great location, right beside the Royal Mile which our room overlooked. No noise at all at night. Yes, there is scaffolding around the front of the hotel, but this didn't impact the stay. Clearly major work has and is being done on the hotel. There was no noise or disruption from this. The hotel itself is lovely and modern inside. Our room was spacious, clean and modern. Bed very comfy and a huge shower. Lovely toiletries provided. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices. Service in the Executive Lounge in the evenings was also excellent, with great drinks and snack choices. Would definitely stay again when returning to Edinburgh.

A Truly Memorable Anniversary Stay – Outstanding Service!
From the very first moment, this hotel exceeded all expectations and made our wedding anniversary feel incredibly special. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Guest Services Manager Edwin, who kindly went out of his way to help carry our luggage across the road. Such a thoughtful and hands-on gesture from a manager set the perfect tone and made us feel genuinely valued right from the start. Our room had been beautifully decorated to celebrate our anniversary, complete with a complimentary bottle of prosecco – a lovely touch that added to the romance of the occasion. As always, the club lounge facilities were excellent: comfortable, well-stocked, and a relaxing space to unwind. A huge thank you to Edwin for his warm, welcoming nature and for personally ensuring every detail was taken care of to make our anniversary so memorable. His attentiveness and care truly stood out. We left feeling pampered and appreciated, and we’re already looking forward to returning. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Disappointing
Overall disappointing stay. I hate to leave disappointing reviews, but I was just underwhelmed by the hotel. It started at check-in when I got a less than welcome reception by staff. Almost as though who was I to check in there and they all just stared at me. It was intimidating. The tone quickly changed when it was apparent that I was in a suite. 3 of us were staying in the suite and yet the sofabed had not been set up. I was told it would be later on, however I had to phone down at 8.30pm and ask that someone deliver sheets to get it made up. Small things like there only being 2 teabags, 2 cups, and 1 packet of biscuits was disappointing given the money I was spending and the booking clearly stating there were 3 of us. The room was freezing, however it was nice and quiet given where we were situated. The breakfast was delicious, full fry up and continental options. We weren't rushed at all and staff were lovely. The building work outside didn't bother us at all and the location was excellent. But for a Hilton and the price we paid, it was underwhelming and disappointing. It didn't feel welcoming and we didn't feel that we could go and speak to reception staff. I will definitely look around for a better place to stay next time.

More bad than good.
Could have been better. The front of the hotel is under complete renovation with scaffolding covering the entire building which is a complete eyesore and was not mentioned in the booking. This isn’t to do with the hotel itself, but if you are staying at the front or near the street, prepare to hear sirens and everything else all night long. Our room which was the king executive which we payed extra for to have the extra luxury, the window frames were old and loose and were constantly constantly banging from any draught, there was tissue and tape all along the windows from previous people who were trying to stop the banging but it kept going. I had to go down to the reception and ask if there was anything they could do because the banging was just so loud. There was also a room connecting to another person‘s room which I thought was very strange. I thought it was the closet or bathroom and I pushed it open a little and I could actually see into another person‘s room which is completely unacceptable for a hotel of this standard or any standard for that matter. Someone could’ve been undressed or someone else could use this to harm someone else. This certainly needs to be looked at. There were scuff marks along the bedframe and the carpet which again I think is unacceptable for a hotel of this price and the standard you hold yourself up to. Breakfast was good but very average considering the price of the hotel. You had your basic sausage, rasher, eggs, cereal and toast. Beside that it’s a Lovely hotel, the bathrooms were very good. The room itself was nice and tidy and clean. staff were amazing, great location just seconds away from shops and pubs and anything you want to find. Markets and iceskating are only 5-10 minute walk away. Overall, I don’t think I would recommend not stay in again.
