Terrible check-in/check-out experience, $52 breakfast buffet is a loot
When I showed up, they didn't have my reservation. Apparently, the booking wasn't there from my travel package (I used Costco travel). This property has become super pricey. $52 for breakfast buffet for adults and $26 for kids. My 7 year old ate 1 pancake that cost us $26. And then the breakfast is so-so. The room we got (5001) was in a far corner of the property. 10 minute walk to the lobby. I felt they didn't treat us well - perhaps they don't treat people with Costco Travel packages well. After checkout, they charged me resort fee even though it was included in my package. I had to call them to have it removed. I think they were looking to make a quick buck on me. Generally, this hotel has regressed a lot. It has become insanely expensive and they expect tips everywhere.

Luxury vacation spot with gorgeous views and a great pool!
Had an absolutely incredible experience at the Hyatt in Kauai in November! Breakfast at the club every morning was great (try to the papaya and definitely add the li-hing powder to it!), pools and lazy river were awesome, and the rooms were gorgeous. The pool was down while we were there and my daughter was so disappointed BUT they at least had an inflatable slide which she slid down about 100 times and still had a ball! Shout out to Erin who made my daughter and niece's day so special - the parrot note cards, coloring, and crafts were so appreciated! Also shout out to Keo at the bellman/valet who saw my daughter throw a fit because her cousin had an inflatable pool ball - he stepped in, told her a little joke to lift her spirits and then got her an inflatable pool ball too so there was no fighting!! Definition of proactive! Lastly, shout out to Gregg and Claudia at the pool/cabana area - they were so sweet with our little girls - even got them a few crafts and snacks to take back on the plane with us! The price tag was steep, but the service, name recognition, care and attendance was simply unmatched. This was one of the best vacations I've ever been on and the value was so worth it!

A Hawaiian paradise
Another amazing stay at this beautiful resort! From the minute we arrived, we were treated so well with the utmost in professionalism and hospitality. We would like to especially thank Erick at the front desk for always making us feel so welcome. He keeps us coming back as his efficiency, his warm and friendly demeanor, and pleasant conversation is always the perfect start to our vacation. Even during the holidays, the resort never feels crowded and there is always something fun to do. This is a foodie’s paradise and the drinks are always excellent too. Thanks for the beautiful memories of our holiday vacation. Looking forward to returning!

Nice Stay - Needs Some Updating
Didn't realize when I booked that this was the Hyatt Regency 30 years ago when we stayed here on our honeymoon. Hotel property is beautiful and so is the lobby. Loved the talking parrots on perches all around. However, the hotel is mostly open air through the hallways and I am not sure why there is carpet throughout. There is a musty smell and the carpet looks stained and old. Hotel is clean and housekeeping was great, valet staff great too. We loved having lunch at the pool bar and the staff there were friendly and attentive. If you are a Hyatt Rewards Member and have access to the Grand Club, this is one of the nicest we have been to. Beautiful space, lots of great choices and they kept replenishing. There is even an outdoor deck you can eat on. There is very little beach access here and no service on the beach. Right next to the hotel is the Heritage Trail, which is a scenic mini hike/walk over the beach. It is beautiful and a great thing to do in the morning before it gets too hot. Overall we had a nice stay, I am just not sure I would give it the highest rating, because there are definitely tired areas of the hotel that need updating.

Good resort, but does not meet 5-star / Hyatt Category 9 expectations
Positives: - Family-friendly amenities: No shortage of amenities for our 9, 7, and 1 year old children. Pool, saltwater lagoon, water slide, pickleball, macaws, koi feedings, shops, Grand Club, etc. - Warm, thoughtful staff: Christmas stocking at our door. Surprise gifts for the kids. Friendly “alohas” in the hallways. - Good location: Had a room with a nice partial ocean view. Resort is located near Poipu Beach (saw many sea turtles there), Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail, and many other restaurants and activities. Negatives: - Dated rooms and facilities: Leaky washers in the laundry room soaking the floor. Patched drywall in the hallway in need of a paint job. Couch with a faint hint of body odor. Sliding bathroom doors with grimy handles that got stuck closed and required service. Just a few examples. - Issues with charges: Told by valet that our first night of valet parking was comped, then the charge showed up on our bill and we had to contact service to get it removed. Eventually moved to self-parking which is fairly easy at this resort. - Inconsistent housekeeping: Rubbed a layer of dirt off our bathroom light switches the first night, which was gross. Encountered issues with coordinating cleaning times around our youngest child’s nap schedule - our requests did not always get communicated clearly to the cleaning staff. - Food poisoning: Made the mistake of eating lox in the Grand Club that did not taste quite right. Came down with mild food poisoning later that night. - Rude, entitled guests: Obviously this isn’t on the hotel and is only a small minority of guests, but it still impacted our experience. One kid called our two older daughters “fat” to their face (they have sturdier athletic builds from competitive swimming), and my 9-year old daughter began asking when she should go on a diet. Two other people stole our family’s beach chairs at the pool, throwing our towels in the dirt shortly after we had set the towels up on the chairs, ruining our experience that day.
