Great gift shop!
Great gift shop!! Overall I had a great experience. But loved the gift shop! Cute items and variety of gifts. I was able to purchase gifts for my whole family. My wife loved the Pollen Keepers Chai Honey!! Great customer service as I am trying to purchase more honey!

Light Sleepers, beware
This is an absolutely gorgeous hotel. The grounds are stunning. The exterior is beautiful, the facilities are great. The staff was warm and welcoming. I am in room 303, do not stay in this room. You can hear every single noise from the hallway. It is close to a major entryway, so you hear everything. It also has no view, you look at a wall. it’s an adjoining room, which many in the hotel are. But you can hear through the doorways, easily. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.

So Close yet So Far Away
You can literally walk to the airport car rental centers from here, it’s that close to SJO airport. Yet, you’ll quickly forget that upon immersing yourself into Hacienda Belens. It feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of its industrial neighborhood. While I wouldn’t categorize this as a destination property on its own, it’s an excellent starting or stopping point for a Costa Rican adventure.

Really a pleasant stay!
Really a nice hotel and a super stay during New Year’s Eve. We stayed five people (kids 14;,17, 18) in connecting Mountain View rooms and they were super fine… Despite being a large hotel - atmosphere feels super comfortable and nice. Restaurants are all good - we tried the several of them. Especially the sushi was fantastic! Also - we joined the big New Year’s Eve party with approx 500 people. And it was super fun and really a good experience. Staff overall are super friendly.

Hit and miss
Expectations from a Marriott are always high and, in our case, only partially met. We stayed one night at the beginning of our Costa Rica holiday, and another night at the end. My husband also has a Gold Elite status. The first night after our flight I think the hotel was relatively empty. Check in was fast and we were given an upgrade. The room was nice and clean, we slept well but only after turning off a way too loud AC. Breakfast is absolutely fantastic and the grounds around the property fantastic. We were therefore optimistic our second stay would be good as well, but were proven wrong. Check in took almost 20min as we arrived after a large group and not all check-in stations were manned. We were told the hotel was fully booked, which is of course not a problem. What is a problem, is that the rooms have no sound insulation at all, meaning we could hear everything our neighbours were saying, the clacking of shoes in the corridors, etc… needless to say we slept very poorly. Upon checking in we also asked whether we could check out at 14 instead 12. We were told 13 was the max they could give us, which was not ideal but I understand. Come 8am (EIGHT!!) next morning, and the cleaning staff is aggressively knocking at our door - there went our hopes of sleeping in until later to be rested for the long flight that awaited us. The valet organization is also quite chaotic and feels somewhat pushy.
