    Do NOT stay here

Do NOT waste your money here! We booked here last minute when our Cuba trip was cancelled and it is not a 3.5-4 star as advertised. Half of our room amenities were missing and our phone did not work all week (despite asking 5 times to get someone to fix it and them assuring it would be fixed that day). They would take our dirty towels and not replace with clean ones or replace water, so everyday we had to walk to the lobby (up like 6 flights of stairs) to ask for them to be replaced. The bathroom ceiling constantly dripped on us and we always came back to a puddle in our bathroom. Warm water 1/2 the week, cold the other. The public bathrooms in and around the lobby were always flooded and disgusting because they didn’t flush. We’d have to walk back to our room if we needed to use the bathroom. We thought it might just have been our experience, but sure enough after talking to people, it was everyone’s experience. One lady didn’t have AC all week and asked everyday to be moved to another room without any luck. You had to walk to the sister resorts for any good entertainment, beach and most à la carts. Only free wifi in the lobby 1 hour a day if it worked. I could go on and on about this place. They did not seem to care about anyone’s concerns or want them coming back to this resort apparently. I feel like I need a vacation after a week spent here.

    Terrible

We recently travelled to the Dominican Republic and had a very mixed experience overall. When we arrived and went through customs, the officer reviewed our passports and my e-ticket, stamped my passport, then directed my wife to the computers at the back while telling me to leave. No explanation was given. My wife isn’t very comfortable using computers, and I wasn’t allowed to assist her. The computers were slow and frequently froze, and there was no airline staff or other assistance available — only other travellers trying to help each other. We later learned she had to complete her own e-ticket, as each person required one individually, which was not what we had been told before leaving Canada. Unfortunately, things did not improve when we arrived at Cofresi Palm Resort. After checking in, we found our room warm and not very clean, and each day brought new issues. The air conditioning barely worked, and the room temperature stayed between 80–82°F throughout our stay. The toilet in our room was leaking badly and flooding the bathroom floor and part of the sleeping area. It was not fixed until the second day, meaning water was leaking across the floor the entire time. When we were shown a replacement room, that toilet was leaking as well — we could hear the water running and see it spreading across the bathroom floor — so that room was not an option. Water supply was also inconsistent. Some days we received two small bottles, other days none at all. Guests are advised not to drink the tap water or use it to brush their teeth, so bottled water is needed for both drinking and basic hygiene. Two small bottles simply do not go very far under those circumstances. The bar fridge was only refilled a few times during our stay. Trying to resolve problems was frustrating. The front desk would send us to guest services, and guest services would send us back to the front desk. We repeatedly asked to speak with a manager but were never given the opportunity. After viewing the second room with similar problems, we were told no other rooms were available for the remainder of our stay. It was also very difficult to get help from the Sunwing representative at the resort. He was rarely available, which made it extremely hard to get any resolution or assistance in finding alternative rooms. Communication was made even more difficult because the internet service at the resort was very poor and often would not allow us to log in at all. This made it challenging to contact anyone online or access the Sunwing app, which also did not work reliably during our stay. Cleanliness throughout the resort was also a concern. Marks remained on the bathroom mirror in our room the entire time, and there was even a toenail clipping on the floor beside the bed from check-in to check-out. Many of the public washrooms around the resort were very dirty, often with water on the floors, toilets that would not flush, and conditions that remained that way for days. There were also far too few garbage cans throughout the property, making it difficult for guests to properly dispose of waste. Another frustration was the constant pressure from people carrying clipboards trying to sell timeshares. Guests are told they are going on a tour of the resort, but it turns into a sales presentation. The pressure was persistent and uncomfortable. The resort layout may also be challenging for guests with limited mobility, as it is built on a hill with many levels and stairs. The property itself appears to need significant repairs. During the last five days of our stay, the main pool lost approximately 2½ feet of water due to a leak that did not appear to be resolved. We also heard many reports of guests becoming ill, possibly from the food. This was especially disappointing because we stayed at this same resort six years ago and had a wonderful experience. This visit was completely different, and we would not return or recommend it. It has also made us reconsider visiting the Dominican Republic again. One bright spot was our excursion to see the monkeys. That experience was excellent. Our guide, Matias, was friendly, knowledgeable, and always smiling — truly one of the highlights of our trip. Our flights were smooth and pleasant both ways, and the airline staff were friendly and professional. However, based on our experience and the number of unhappy guests we spoke with, we do not feel this resort should be recommended. Overall, while there were a few positive moments, this trip did not meet our expectations.

The worst experience I have ever had encountered.

My husband and I love taking our kids on a family vacation every year and we usually pick the DR. This year we picked Cofresi (at the time the reviews weren’t bad and I thought because it was a bigger resort there would be a lot of entertainment and restaurants. The minute we got to the resort it went downhill from the check in. The front desk was horrible to deal with. We called almost everyday before hand to confirm we had conjoining rooms. (We get 3 rooms as I have some older kids) if there all couldnt be conjoined we asked for at least one just because I had daughters in one room. And of that wasn’t an option at least on the same floor. We travelled with another family and because we have younger kids I thought it would be nice of we at least could be closer to hang out at night when we put them to bed. So that obviously didn’t happen. They had us all on different floors and even in completely different areas from one another. As we went to the rooms only to find out they only have wifi in one point on the room (wouldn’t even work if you went in the bathroom) we had a look around the rooms and we were disgusted to see how outdated they all were. 1. Every room had mold EVERYWHERE. 2. My daughter’s room window handle was completely rotted off. As we were standing there the panels all fell off leaving their room completely open. 3. My son’s room didn’t have a frame around the glass door and almost fell on them as they opened it. 4. Our sliding door had a huge gap in it so even if it was closed it wasn’t fully closed. 5. One room had no hot water and you couldn’t control the temperature so it was so cold. The air quality was so terrible. When we went to the front desk to ask for a different room they could not of cared less. I even said please put us in a room where I can at least put my daughters with me and the woman looks at me and says.. they aren’t children so they are fine… I don’t care if they are 40! That’s so unsafe and crazy to be told that. They did nothing. Everyday we spend hours going back and forth and got nothing. The amount of people we met there and they had it way worse. Which is crazy to even imagine. Get ready for the amount of stairs there are too. If you have strollers or wheelchairs do not go here! The shuttles are horrible. They have one going around every 45 mins. And you are like fighting your way on one. There was no chairs on the beach so get ready for the work out of dragging beach chairs around and that’s if there’s even chairs. No umbrellas. THE FOOD…….O.M.G if you don’t care to eat this place is for you. We got food poisoning the second night there. We had 6 kids with us and 3 adults and we literally starved. The staff acted like we were bothering them if we needed a drink. We had to book excursions just to leave the resort. This was the worst experience of my life and one I would like to forget. Money wasted. No relaxing. We are actually going home more stressed then we could have ever imagined.

Not off to a good start

Currently at Cofresi. We were here in 2023 for 2 weeks with no issues. Arrived yesterday. Our room was missing a few items in the checklist reception gives you so we made sure to go back up to the reception to tell them. About 6 hours later after enjoying the afternoon we went back to our room to find the air conditioning did not work. Went to the front desk and was told someone would come fix it. No one came. 30 degrees in the room today. Back to reception at 4pm as told to do last night. Was told to come back at 7pm tonight, waited around in lobby for 45 minutes for a bell boy apparently to switch us rooms, we could have done it ourselves but apparently it is the policy. After finding this out found the bellboy myself in less than 5 minutes. Switched to a new room. New room also has no air conditioning, is leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom, toilet was sealed that it had been cleaned and there is someone’s poop stain in it and also have no hand towels, foot towel and no face clothes. Called from desk after waiting 2 hours for air conditioning to kick in. Either someone is supposed to come here or call here. I couldn’t really understand but I am really hoping this gets rectified. People should get what is advertised and what they pay for at the minimum. Bell boy was fantastic. I will update this as the situation unfolds. Not a good start to our two weeks here.
