Low-key Hilo vibes for a reasonable price
I had a last-minute business trip to Hilo and was looking for comfortable accommodations at a good price. If this were my once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii and I could afford it, I might choose somewhere newer and more luxurious, but for my purposes this was perfect. I chose the cheapest room type available at the time, and ended up in a spacious two-queen room facing the parking lot, directly behind a tree that charmingly filled with squawking mynahs in the early evening (and gave me a better view and some extra privacy). Yes, this is an older hotel, and nothing feels like the latest and greatest. But my room was clean, the A/C worked, the staff were almost all very friendly, the parking was free and close by, and the openness and general design have a low-key Hawaii feel that seems perfect for chill Hilo. It's also on pleasantly walkable Banyan Drive and right next to the bridge to Coconut Island, if you want a quick after-dinner stroll under the banyans to a park or two. I didn't try the steakhouse and only had one fairly mediocre meal at the lounge, though I didn't expect anything special. Five stars not because Hilo Hawaiian is amazing, but because it's a good value in a good location with a good vibe.

It was a terrible experience . No customer service to speak of. Front desk not helpful at all
Where do I start? When we got to the hotel, there was no place to park our rental car. I was told to park in a side lot, away from the hotel that was inadequately lit and no security cameras. I did not feel safe but I did it. We checked into our room and our air conditioner was working right and the rug in front of the thermostat was saturated. There was also no bedside lamp which we were told there should have been one. The next day they did change our room and we were satisfied. The restaurant, however was something else. Limited menu and way understaffed. I felt sorry for the servers and manager who were performing 2 and 3 tasks. It was outrageous. When the next weekend came and again I could not find parking ANYWHERE on property, I went back to the front desk and was told rather rudely that I could park on the street which was not near the hotel lobby. Since we had a rental car, I didn’t feel safe leaving the car there. There are no security cameras or any other type of security in the parking areas or near the street. I found a spot in the parking lot and parked illegally as did other patrons.anyway if you are coming to Hilo, I suggest you stay in the Doubletree next door, do not stay here.

Overall poor service & unhelpful staff
Good hotel with large rooms, bad plumbing, fridge needed replacing, nice cocktail bar but terrible continental breakfast. See the photos and decide for yourself. Also plastic trays instead of plates a bad environmental choice & charge $10 if you took one

Great Stay!
Great hotel! Easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Perfect location. You can walk to the Lili'uokalani Gardens. It's right on the water and has amazing views of Hilo and the bay. The room was very clean and comfortable. Loved having a mini refrigerator. Would definitely stay here again!

Old outdated hotel.
The rooms are really outdated. The balconies had cracks on them. A local told me it was from an earthquake. The pool is cold. The bar is nice. The restaurant is terrible. Not many places to stay in the hilo area. Next time will take the helicopter tour in waikoloa only. To see the vocano.
