Disappointing weekend, NOT what we paid for…….
Our plan was for a fantastic escape weekend with our daughter in Boston. For this reason I decided to go a little upscale and book an executive suite at the long wharf. I informed the hotel it was 2 adults and my 9 year old would be staying. The pictures looked great and we were all excited. Our troubles began at check in. We were given the keys to our suite and arrived upstairs to find it was a handicapped suite. You might think, “is it that much different than a regular suite?” Trust me on this, it is…….ill explain. First off, the suite is set up for a person with a wheelchair. That means lower………everything……….No shower doors, no partitions for the toilet, less furniture to get in the way of a wheelchair, etc. Worst of all, you come for an amazing weekend with formal dress and suit, and there’s not one regular sized closet. Every piece of clothing we had couldn’t be hung up because any closet space is half size and close to the ground. Incredibly frustrating…..I did immediately go back to check in and request a change to which I was told there was nothing left and any change would result in a smaller room. I explained that I had paid specifically for a regular executive suite and that was simply met with a blank stare and attitude as if, “if you don’t like it, you can go…..” This suite was NOT inexpensive. If you pay specifically for a regular suite it ABSOLUTELY should be set aside for you. The experience with staff at the front desk was incredibly disappointing. We went back to the room feeling deflated but willing to make the most of it only to find our daughter’s bed(the pull out couch) hadn’t even been made up. There were no sheets, pillows or even enough towels. We called down and waited more than 30 minutes for someone to arrive only to hand us the linens and walk away. Certainly not the type of service I expect when I’m spending this sort of money. Overall, the weekend activities were fun and fulfilling outside of the hotel. They ask for honesty in a review and I’ve tried hard to provide it. I did request that a manager call our room to discuss what had happened and never got a reply the entire weekend. I found the overall hotel older, somewhat dated and certainly not worth the money I paid. Boston was great and other Marriott properties have been wonderful but this one was certainly not. I would say look around for a better place to stay. We won’t be headed back to this hotel again.

A wonderful family weekend at the Long Wharf!
We just returned from a family weekend at the Long Wharf. Everyone that we encountered there, from the valets, the front desk, the housekeeping staff, and the Waterline restaurant staff, were very friendly and accommodating! Special thanks to Coleen W. from Guest Experience, who helped me book rooms close together so that our daughter and family, including a toddler, could be close by. Our rooms came complete with umbrellas to use this morning when it was raining. So much to do within walking distance of the hotel and such lovely views of the water. For those who don’t often drive to the city, this hotel is easy to get to and then you can walk everywhere and not need your car. We hope to get back later this year!

Perfection except for the resort credit
This old classic has been thoughtfully updated. Room decor is fantastic and well appointed. Lobby space is ample and comfortable. The restaurant food quality is fine for a hotel restaurant. The concierge is fantastic!!! All the staff were responsive, kind, and friendly, from the front desk, to bellstand, to room service, to housekeeping (it was nice to see the same housekeeper all three days -- by the end of our stay, we felt like we knew her). Value for what we paid was pretty good--not a cheap hotel by any stretch, but it's comfortable and in a great location. So my complaint is the resort credit. I know a lot of properties do this, and I never like it. But it's one thing to have (in this case) $30/day to spend on prem if you're in a remote setting or resort. You were probably going to spend that money on prem anyway in those cases. But to be assessed $30/day in the middle of Boston was annoying. Yes, we could have ignored it, but getting charged $30 for nothing leaves a bad taste. So then we feel obligated to use it, and of course wind up spending a lot more than that. (Weekend breakfast buffet is $34/person, for example.) We didn't want to feel "chained" to dining on property when there are so many great places in Boston, especially that close to the North End. Finally, I'll also add that perhaps that fee was clearly stated when I made the reservation, but I didn't see it, so it also felt a bit like a "gotcha" when I checked in. All in all, fabulous property with a lot to recommend it. Just hate the fee.

Top Notch Service at the Marriott
We had a wonderful stay at the Marriott in Boston. The hotel is very close to the New England aquarium. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and everything was very festive. The valet service was excellent. The staff was friendly and our car was well taken care of. The room we stayed in was on the 7th floor (709) and it was clean and quiet throughout our stay. We enjoyed a drink at the downstairs bar which had nice ambience. 10/10
