This was our 8th time staying at the Grand Bahia Principe resort, 4 time specifically at Coba. GBP continues to live up to our expectations for consistently good service and food. All of the staff from the buffet (shout out to Jose, Antonio, Aure and their teams for making us feel like family), the beach bar tenders, the lobby bar servers, and the a la carte servers were friendly and attentive. The buffet has good variety daily. Some a la cartes were better than others, which is normal for most hotels. We really enjoyed the food and decor at Hindú Restaurant Thali, which we hadn't tried during previous stays. Mediterraneo was food was good, though the space could use a refresh. We liked the decor of Tequila, but were not sold on the buffet-like concept, as the previous sitdown menu included more variety. Some of us had better meals than others at Le Gourmet (lamb was good, steak not so much). The hotel still has a more authentic Mexican feel given the room finishes and common area designs; however, if you're expecting a modern-style hotel, this is not the place for you. The hotel has a great waterpark for those with kids. Overall, we feel we received good value for the $ spent and would return for a similar price.

Dec 17, 2024Disappointing food and drinks
We travelled as a grandma, husband and pregnant wife, and a 3 year old. There were lots of things that we enjoyed but a lot of specific issues that made our visit unpleasant. Let’s start with the pros.. The staff was incredible. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful and kind. The a-la-Carte dinners that we had were very good, and had a wide variety of options. We were there for my mother’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make the dinner very special with a little fire show for dessert. The pools and waterpark were great, and we always had access to chairs. That all being said, there were quite a few things that I would consider to be cons.. First of all, the resort is quite run down. Every little nook and cranny is cracked or poorly repaired, and overall it does not look well kept. Railings on the pool bridges and around the lobby are being eaten by termites and destroyed by mushrooms and fungus. The drinks were disappointing to say the least. Everything was made with a premade mix, no real fruit or fruit juices, and liquor was quite cheap and you could taste it. There was also massive inconsistencies in the bartender’s knowledge or capabilities. One would make a drink completely different, missing ingredients or using different ones than others. You had to know exactly what was in the drink prior to ordering and clarify that to each server. Although the food at the a-la-carte was good, the buffets and snack bars were disappointing. You cannot take food away, which is challenging when you have a toddler. Anyone with a kid knows that they may not eat instantly and being able to bring it to the room is a huge help. You could usually find a couple items that were edible but all four of the people in our party would grab a plate, get back to the table and realize that 70% was inedible. Cheese sauce tasted like cheese wiz, and was watery one day and chunky the next. There was never an egg dish that we would eat, as the fried eggs were crispy, and the scrambled eggs were soaking wet. The only guaranteed edible breakfast food was bacon, but you had to circle like a hawk to be there when the employee brought a new tray out, and then wait in line because it would clear out in minutes. We were only allowed to book 3 a-la-carte dinners, and very quickly got sick of the buffet during our week stay. That being said, even if we were allotted more dinners, I don’t think we would have been able to book any as the restaurants were all booked up unless we could dine at 9pm as individuals. Unless there were some pretty significant changes and updates, we would not stay here again.

Dec 17, 2024Read Review Before Booking! - Bahai Coba Family Stay
Little background I have been to all-inclusive resorts over a dozen times and since my kids have been born we have been to the Caribbean every year. My wife and I like to try different locations, different brands, and resorts. To name a few brands we have stayed with Riu, Dreams, Iberostar, Lifestyles, and now Bahia. We have never been to a Bahia branded resort and decided to go with them. The Bahia Grand Resorts just do not have the amenities that the others offer, and we were very disappointed. My wife and I would like to urge you to read the list of items below and if you can live with / without some of the items book Bahia Grand resorts. But please be aware for the same cost other resorts include many of the items below. THE UNACCEPTABLE - Roof leak in Room - First night we woke up to a roof leak in our bathroom. The next morning informed the front desk. Went back later in the day and they said it was fixed and their were photos of the fix. That night leaking again, and the plaster hole is starting to grow. For the next few days we kept informing the front desk of the leaking water and the falling plaster showing them photos on our phones and they could not do anything. We informed the staff every day until day 5 when they decided the situation is significate enough to move us. They took our luggage at breakfast and told us to come back to the front desk at 3 pm for our new room assignment. Well it started to rain and we wanted to get some dry clothing. No one could tell us where our luggage ended up. We had to sit in our swim suits in the lobby for hours waiting for a room. After explaining the situation to another couple that was leaving concierge called me over and I quote - “don’t expect the front deck to do anything for you, you must call your travel agent and have them push them”. So it must be a known thing by the staff around the resort that the front desk doesn't care about its guests. -Drowning by pool - Lifeguards don't do anything but talk and play on their phones. My kids had to witness the guest drag the lifeless person out of the pool -Insects - Within 5 min in the room we were finding cockroaches -Wildlife in room - Lizards running around the room. It makes it hard to sleep when they are running around the room while trying to sleep. THE DISAPPOINTING -No waiters by pool or beach -No way to get food to room -Fees - 20 dollar fee if you decide to skip your A-La-Cart meal -Only 3 A-La-Cart Meals for 7 day stay -Every A-La-Cart restaurant was half full at best - But still cannot get a reservation -Closed Restaurants - There were 3 (possibly 4) closed venues to eat -Buffet - Buffet food is kept at unsafe temperatures -Buffet #2 - Buffet wait staff is for the most part inattentive. There are a few good ones, if you find a person you like try to keep going back to their area -Steps are extremely slippery - Saw many people fall with some pretty significant injuries. -Beach - Beach vendors hang out at Coda's bar and try to sell you stuff as you get a drink. (Funny moment when two police officers were walking down the beach they ran away like the cockroaches in our room when we turned on the lights) -Beach #2 - Beach is rocky and water is shallow - Tram - Be prepared to take the tram and the trams dont run on a set schedule - Jacuzzi - Jacuzzi bar was closed and out of the 4 Jacuzzis only 1 was running. - Pool Bar - Kids are allowed to swim, splash, sit, play at the swim up bar. THE GOOD -Kids Club - We almost never send our kids to the kids club. On a rainy day we decided to see if the would like it. After that they begged to go back. -Beach Pier - the pier at the beach made it easy to access the water - (watch out for the sting ray that lives under the Pier) -Allergy - My wife has a mild allergy and we only had one incident with a staff member that gave us attitude about deviating from the normal.

Cuba is better
Don’t waste your time and money here. The 2 resorts I went to in Cuba were even way better than this resort. Food was terrible, resort and rooms are very old and run down. Can’t book the good restaurants unless you stay longer than a week because they are fully booked upon arrival. Our room was damp and on the last night water started pouring from the ceiling. Pool chairs are pretty gross as well. The only good thing about the resort was the service all around except for the trolleys. Be prepared to wait 20+ minutes sometimes. Buffet, restaurants and bars were on point service wise. Food has little to no flavour everywhere we ate. Not to mention myself and 2 others in our group got food poising which ruined a few days of the vacation as well. Beaches are nice but there’s no sand in the water, all coral and rock. I have been to 9 all inclusive resorts and this wasn’t just the worst resort it was the worst vacation I’ve ever been on.

We stayed in building 31 closer to the kids water park which was a great location. The food is amazing. Food is safe and nobody got sick :) The buffet restauranr is really good. Everything was delicious! The resort has a big permanent mexican food section, highly recommended For the a la carte restaurants, I recommend Le Gourmet.... the beef stake was perfectly cooked Download the hotel app 10 days in advance of your arrival and reserve your a la carte restaurants before your arrival. The security in the resort is also really good. We left our belongings in the beach and pool, went for lunches and everything was there. Alcohol is "branded" and plenty of choices. The rooms are really big and the bathroom has a bathtub with jets, so basically you have a mini hot tub in your bathroom. This resort is huge and has 3 hotels of the same brand bahia principe...we stayed in Coba...you can take the shuttles and go to the other ones. In the Tulum resort you can see a dolphins show for free and pay to swim with dolphins. Highly recommended The resort does on sundays a kids party in the hacienda dona Isabel...the shuttles take u there ... highly recommended as well The beach is really good and the shuttles pass every 5 to 10min to take u from Coba to the beach, which worked really well...the ride is only 5min. Cuban beaches are still better but overall this beach was really good. Cuba will be there next year :)
