  Location Can't Be Beat

  We chose this hotel for the location and it did not disappoint in that regard. It’s close to the Liedseplein area, which has a good variety of shops, restaurants and bars and felt very safe walking around in the evenings, compared to some other parts of the city. Both Vondelpark and the Rijksmuseum are a couple blocks away and there is a tram stop right outside the hotel. In addition, there is an express airport bus stop close to the hotel, which was a convenient way to get to the airport (we arrived in the city by train). Our stay didn’t start off well, as we arrived at 5:00 pm and our room still wasn’t ready, even though check in is at 3:00pm. They offered us a drink coupon at the bar, which turned out to be only for soft drinks, so that wasn’t much of an apology. We had to wait until 6:00 pm until the room was finally ready, but I will say the room turned out to be very nice in spite of the wait. We had a Junior Suite on the top floor, which had an outside balcony overlooking much of the city. Although it was too cold to sit outside, it had great views and would be wonderful in the summertime. The suite was quite large, with a comfortable king size bed, a small sitting area and a good-sized TV, although not many English channels. Oddly, the bathroom was small in relation to the rest of the room, but the shower was good. Housekeeping was every day and always completed before we returned in the afternoon. They even came back in the evening to check if we needed anything else. The M Club lounge was a pleasant surprise, with better-than-expected food offerings, both at breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres, with beer and wine included. It was busy every time we were there, but we always managed to find a spot. On our last evening, we chose to bring in some other food, so that we could take advantage of their drinks and cutlery. One of the staff came over to chastise us for eating food that wasn’t theirs. If this is their policy, that’s fine, but the situation could have been handled much better. So apart, from a couple of customer service issues, we enjoyed our visit overall and would likely stay here again if we return to Amsterdam.

  My family and I were very happy and comfortable during our stay at the hotel in Amsterdam thanks to the excellent service and attention we received. We would especially like to highlight the kindness of Frans at the reception, who was extremely attentive, very friendly, and always willing to help us. He assisted us with our luggage, guides, and many other things that made our stay even more pleasant and enjoyable.

  Big Disappointment

  Absolutely a big disappointment. Dirt near vents and on ceiling. Unclean towels. Failure to make up room and had to wait in lobby for 2 hours. Dreary rooms. Dark hotel and unpleasant. Good bed. Good location. Best to avoid. Shame on Marriott.

  Great base to explore everywhere

  The best part of the hotel was the location and the people. It was super easy to get to everything and the staff was super helpful. I would stay again because of those things, but the housekeeping for our room was only fair and despite being on the 8th floor we could hear partying and yelling throughout the night.
