Waikoloa Family Trip - Enjoyed the Marriott
Hoping to write a helpful review to future travelers: We stayed here for a week mid-March and did NOT have a car. I was a little worried about not having one, but we were okay. My advice is to use a taxi to and from the hotel - cheaper than the vans and Uber is not prevalent. Concierge can help set the taxi service for you. We scheduled a snorkel from the A Bay and an Island Tour (Geo) that picked up from the hotel. I would have liked to have a car for one day, but otherwise we were fine. The room: We had the Ohana room with a King and pull-out. Our kids, 11 & 13, had to sleep on the pull-out- it was not great for them. They complained quite a bit, but there were no other options for us at booking and they would not upgrade us at check in. The room was pretty clean, there is no exhaust in the bathroom, the AC keeps the room cool, but does not take any moisture out of the air - nothing dried that we hung in the bathroom. There is also no Microwave, which would have been nice to reheat leftovers that we paid $$$$ for. The pools are awesome, the kids loved the slide and we loved the hot tubs and multiple pool options. The bad: even though the hotel says "no reserving" chairs - people just throw towels and an article of clothing on the chairs for the whole day which makes it hard to find a chair to sit at - especially a shaded chair - impossible. It was so annoying. I found the prices astonishingly high here for drinks and food, and the rentals at the beach are astronomical. $50 an HOUR to rent a paddle board. Wow. But they can because there's no other competition. The beach is okay, you will want water shoes, as there are a lot of rock and coral in the water. My kids preferred the pools to the beach as the water at the beach was a bit colder. We really liked how close it was to the Kings Market and Queen shops. Easy to pick up needed supplies, food, drinks. Plenty of places to eat. We walked to the Hilton one day to swim with the dolphins and that was fantastic, but that place is huge, and crazy, and even more expensive than the Marriott, so I was glad we chose the Marriott over the Hilton. Mai Tais at Hilton were $18 and did not taste great. They were $16 at Marriott and had much better flavor. Overall we had nice time on our trip, made some great memories, and no real big turn offs from the resort.

No place for a vacation
This is the most depressing hotel ever. The rooms are tiny and filthy! The AC is the worst, and the room was a sauna. They were spraying for bugs while we were here and asked us to stay out of our room. The whole place just feels yucky! This is NO place to relax and enjoy the Aloha spirit

Worst hotel
Absolutely the worst hotel! Our room is terribly run down and ridiculously tiny. We couldn’t even walk all the way around the bed. The air conditioner is intermittent at best and the AC unit itself is covered in mold with broken slats. And it does not cool the room properly. Had to call the help desk to troubleshoot the internet and that took forever. So disappointed that we paid for something less than mediocre. Will not be back!

Delightful!
I never write reviews, but since I rely on them so much, I am including my experience here. If you are thinking of staying here - do yourself a favor and just book the room. Our entire experience was delightful. Beds are comfortable, views are everything you want them to be and it is convenient to a lot of food options. They have a lot of comfortable seating all with amazing views. Being on a sand beach on the Big Island is a huge bonus. It wasn't my favorite beach to swim in, but I can watch the views from my favorite rocking chair all day. All of the staff was helpful and they handled our quirky checkout and holding bags. They also have great ice/water machines to keep you hydrated.

What did amazing hotel. Perfect for guests of any age
We just came back from our third trip to this hotel. We thought we would like it a lot, but we liked it more than we could ever imagine. The room was beautiful. The food was delicious, the hotel is beautiful. But what made it the best is one particular staff member named Melissa Monroe. We met her last time we were at the hotel, and she was genuinely thrilled when we told her we were coming back. She took such wonderful care of us, tending to our every need. She’s kind and thorough and thoughtful and funny! Our highest praises go to her. This hotel will be the top of our list to go back to in the future. Go Melissa !!!
