Stayed for one night with my sister. The room and amenities were great. The beds were super comfortable. Elaine and Wendy at the Front Desk were wonderful. It was the perfect place for our trip. We were right in the middle of everything and close to the beach
Do not waste your money here.
Lobby looked nice, but their service is subpar. Checked in with no information on where things are located in the hotel. Seemed like the front desk staff was only interested in getting you to upgrade your room for extra fee. Room appeared nice when you walk in. You soon realize the mattresses are sunken, so old, feels worse than laying in a cheap motel. Whats worst? The bed had silverfish bugs. The view from the balcony in the oceanfront room looks spectacular.. except you can't keep the blinds open most of the time unless you don't mind your neighbors seeing everything you're doing in your room. And the noise from the street is so loud. If your room is next to ice machine room, then expect to be startled by the noise from the machine and the door slam. The restroom door and wall are semi see through. Not convenient if your traveling with friends. Expect to wait a long time for elevators.. very slow. They charged us valet parking instead of self parking, so be sure to check your receipt. Lastly, the front desk staff (think his name is Kevin) threw the receipt at us after we asked him to correct the parking fee.. will never stay at Marriott.
Rude front Desk
It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! People at the front desk were rude! Throwing receipt at me, gave me a room with a TV that didn't work. I didn't complain about TV because I rarely use it. But on the last day at this hotel, I found a big silverfish bug!!! Disgusting!!! Luau, which costs $170, is ridiculous! It's not a buffet because they take away all the food after everyone took plates. They used kids in the show! Is this a talent show? Nonetheless, the host/main singer was amazing. She has a beautiful voice. Anyhow, everything would've been okay, even the bug if the guy at the front desk were polite. He just ruined my vacation! I wanted to give him a finger, but I didn't want to be someone just like him! I will never stay at Marriott again!
The Hotel is very typical of Waikiki, big building, lots of rooms. PROS Clean and spacious rooms. Awesome concierge service. Starbucks on Level 1 On site guest laundry. Good sized gym with various machines ABC Shop Level 1 Adults only pool Delicious restaurants on site CONS Slow service at the pool for drinks / food. Breakfast was ordinary and over priced. I enjoyed our stay here, staff were helpful with local attractions, It is close to everything and I felt safe and secure staying here.
We LOVED our stay here!
We LOVED our stay here! Granted, it was our first experience with a resort hotel. We LOVED the open air lobby, two nearby Starbucks, and an ABC store where we bough musubis daily for breakfast or snack for our kids. PROS: The towel vending machines were great! Not sure how they track returns but we never got charged by accident or anything. The complimentary beach chairs were a nice perk. The pool was a great option for our kids after a day on the beach. Our kids love swimming and it's hard to do that safely in the ocean so the pool was a nice option. It was also great to be able to order food poolside. The poolside seats were basic, not super comfortable, but it worked. We paid extra for an ocean "front" room as opposed to an ocean "view" room and we had an awesome view of the ocean. Our room was clean and our hall was quiet. We didn't really see or hear any of our neighbors at all. From time to time, you can hear other toilets flushing but that was pretty much it. We were on the 14th floor and were worried elevator wait times would be long but it was not bad at all. Our beds were made everyday and the cleaning lady even folded our personal blankets and set them aside nicely for us. The bathroom was updated. The bidet was a wonderful feature. And had plenty of towels for our family of four. We loved that the beach was right in front of the hotel in a less congested part of Waikiki. CONS: We expected lei greetings when we returned as advertised on their website but we never received it. We didn't push it only because we were attending the luau where we would received leis so that was a minor thing. The complimentrary Mai Tai's were hard to get. There were no instructions on how to get them so we had to do some investigating and found out that it was only served on certain days at specific times so we never got our Mai Tai's. Most reviews said that it would be loud from the street noise and they were not wrong. You hear everything on the street. You also get a different kind of crowd out there at night so it does get noisy. We were across from the Twin Fin hotel where they had live music every evening until 10 pm so we had free music whether we wanted it or not. The beds are regular sizes, not queen, like most double bed hotel rooms. But we made it work. The Kuhio Grill where a conventional breakfast was served daily is expensive. We paid $170 for our family of four for a normal breakfast. It's slightly bigger than other continental breakfasts but also, who can eat that much food to make its money worth? I know we didn't and we tried. Know that "ocean view" vs "ocean front" are different prices but not all that difference in experience. Our friends did the Ocean view room and we paid extra to get the ocean front and our views were not all that different. The way this hotel is built, you don't get a front-facing room unless you pay for the suits. Otherwise, all their rooms are sideways to the ocean so even an "ocean front" view is still a sideways view of the ocean NOT front-facing view. Staff was nice and we had no issues there. Overall, we LOVED our stay and did not regret staying in Waikiki in the Merriot specifically.
