Great resort but a few changes could make it wonderful.

Quickly made it through immigration and customs at the airport and had a private vehicle transport to the resort. It was approximately a 30 minute ride. On arrival we were greeted with a cool wet washcloth and a rum punch. Check in was fast but as others have stated, there is a $5 per person tax per night as well as a $24/day resort fee that must be paid upon departure. This is listed on Expedia as well as other booking sites so it shouldn't be a surprise. That being said, they state it's for cleaning. They only clean the rooms every other day so I find it silly. Also, if the Verandah just raised their rates $24/day instead of charging this fee, people would still book and it wouldn't be so off putting. Anyway enough of that, off to the villa by golf cart. We were waterfront room 123 named Soursop. The room is quite large and spacious. Air conditioning worked great and a nice large balcony. We loved the sink to clean our drink cups out and the countertop to sit items. They had a mini fridge but only 4 waters provided every other day. No alcohol or beers in the room. Bummer. Around the resort and close to almost all villas were ice machines, which are a nice touch. The tap water is drinkable, so that's definitely a plus as I tend to drink a lot of water. I had no issues with it. Food The coffee shop made the best and most consistent blended iced coffees we've ever had at any of the 11 all-inclusive resorts we've visited. Angel made the best but all the workers did a great job. The snacks and pasteries were really pretty and decent taste to them. Its a really nice atmosphere with games, couches, TV, and a well working air conditioner. The buffet Seabreeze at dinner was really good. We went on Saturday which was Italian night. Very very good. My wife loved her made to order pasta. That line can be long but she said it was worth the wait. We also went on Mexican night, which was also above average. We definitely left full. The other night we went was Southern themed. It was our least favorite but still had some good dishes. We ate at the buffet every morning for breakfast since this is your only option besides maybe a small snack from the coffee shop. It was the same every day with slight variations. The omelette station was good but there is a line if your timing is wrong. It would be nice to have 2 stations for this. It was good enough to hold us over until lunch. We went to Portifinos (Italian) two nights. The calamari starter I enjoyed and my wife loved their chicken tortellini soup for an appetizer. We also tried the caprice salad, which was also good. The chicken parmesean my wife got the first trip and was great with good crunch, but she found the sauce too sweet for her liking. I got the pork loin and mashed potatoes. The pork was way overcooked but the mashed potatoes were delicious. Second visit I went with the same starters and got the alfredo with shrimp. It was good but the shrimp still had the tails on which made it difficult to eat and I found that odd. Overall it was good. My wife went with the beef ravioli and seemed to enjoy it. I tried it and found it a bit lacking in rosemary butter sauce. Dessert we both tried the mango sorbet. It's wonderful. Pappa Riccos has a great view to sit and look at the cove while grabbing a pizza for lunch. We're sun babies so want to just eat a quick and easy lunch. We are here 3 times so you should know it's not horrible. I will say we ordered the same thing..2 pizzas each time..the spicy veggie and the meat lovers. Every time they were different. The first time we had it was the best. The 2nd and 3rd times we had hotdog pieces on the meatlovers which we found odd. Overall, it's good. We visited the Beach Grill twice. The first time I didn't bring a shirt with me and was turned away. Yes..I said the BEACH grill. Very odd to me not be able to grab a bite to eat literally right on the beach without a shirt. Anyway, the first visit was just not good. The fish sandwich and what they call jerk chicken just wasn't good. The 2nd visit we did actually enjoy their burger and wings. The mango jalapeño sauce on them were good. We ate at Sails & Tales once at lunch and enjoyed it. We hate taking time away from the sun to eat so that was our only lunch there. The sweet potato fries are good. They also had a good burger. We had dinner here one night too and it was good. The salmon was overcooked but still fair. I got the red snapper which was also overcooked but not as bad as the salmon. The slaw with the red snapper was really good. Pools The main pool was really nice. Water temperature was a bit cool but we enjoyed that on hot days. I wish there were some trash cans around. There isn't a single one by the pool. I read a lot of reviews about the lack of towels here which we never had an issue. One thing is we're early risers, so that helps. We'd also check for clean towels at the waterfall pool seems how we passed it every day walking from the room to the main pool area. Also, even if they ran out of clean towels at the main pool, they were restocked within 30 minutes. Plenty of loungers available anytime of the day. The other pools we didn't really use. The waterfall pool didn't have a bar near and was very small. The infinity pool was ok and quiet but we didn't care for it much. Drinks The bars were great. We mainly used the main bar. Andre, Brian, and Kerry Ann were standouts. Drinks were made well. The in house brewed beer is good. The stout and lager were up to par. IPA was out the whole week which was a bummer. The Wavy Wicket was fine. Drinks were good but we found the food below par so didn't order anything after trying the chili cheese nachos, which were cold. The sliders just weren't good either. It was really cold in there too. This can be nice at times but it was too cold to hang out. We typically just sat out by the main bar in the evenings. Odds and ends The mini golf course, although a bit rundown and could use a little tlc, is a nice touch. We had fun playing a round. There are also some shuffleboard courts as well as pickle ball, cornhole and billiards. Take advantage if the day pass to visit their sister property Pineapple Beach Club. It has some beautiful ocean views and eat some bbq at their restaurant The Outhouse. It's up on a hill, so be prepared to walk or take a golf cart. Beautiful up there. We also had some snacks from their snack shack. Really good nachos, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. I really wish they had a spot like this at the Veranda where you can walk up to order a fast quick made to order basket lunch/snack. Go check out Devil's Bridge. It's really close to the resort. You can walk there and can use the back gate. It is behind the Wavy Wicket. Walk back behind there, it mainly looks like a worker's entrance, but head to the guard shack and turn left upon exiting. It might be 1/4 mile or so down the road. Definitely worth it. If mosquitoes love you, take bug spray. I lathered up every night and still got bites. My wife didn't and never got bit. This is typical.

A very relaxing 11 nights with good food and sun and sea which is what I needed Perfect

We were here for Christmas. This resort is perfect if you want a quiet away from it all stay. The food was excellent from the seabreeze buffet to Nicoles which is the only place you pay a supplement for. Service was very slow in here. Sails and Tails and Portofino all good but out favourite for lunch was the Beach Grill on Rastas Beach we ate here most days for lunch. The pizza bar was excellent as well. The Christmas buffet was wonderful and exceeded my expectations the food was beautifully presented and the cake section was amazing. Shout out to the pastry chef. Christmas day Santa arrived by boat on Rastas beach. The staff at the main pool bar were excellent and remembered what you drank and had it ready before you asked. I must mention Theodore who was a standout character in the seabreeze for breakfast and then down at the Beach Grill. He always made sure that everyone was ok and made time to chat with you. I do hope that he will go far and move up into a higher role soon. He deserves it. It was also so nice to see all levels of management helping clear tables deliver clean towels etc. I must mention Vanessa the deputy manager who was a lovely lady and always smiling. All the young ladies in Seabreeze and the various restaurants were charming and always smiling. Must give a shout out to Devon, Ronaldo and Tristian the golf cart drivers who were always there when we needed them, which was a lot. On this note I must mention that be careful when you book as out Room which was lovely equipped with bottled water and lovely toiletries so nice not to have dispensers on the walls. Umbrellas provided, might want to take some extra coat hangers but plenty of drawer space. Ironing Board and Iron. The room for us was not walking distance as it was up and down hill to the main pool and restaurants. We had a waterfront view room number 121. Make sure you take the opportunity to visit the sister resort of Pineapple Bay, you can get a day pass. It has a beautiful stretch of beach. The staff at guest relations were all very helpful but when we arrived in the evening the reception staff were not over welcoming no welcome drink provided and Devon was the one who was smiling and telling us about the resort on the way to our room where we dropped our cases and he took us to the bar for a drink. Improvements could be made to the electrical sockets in the room which did leave me a bit concerned as they did not seem to be that well attached to the wall. Also more golf carts available particularly at busy times. There was work going on near Lovers Beach at the Hammock Resort which made it noisy, shame but worth a visit if you want water sports and want to watch the pelicans.

    Nice week over new year’s

Nice resort that is not a high-rise. Resort spread out that it didn’t feel crowded even during peak capacity. Food is ok, worth paying for Nicole’s and buying wine because the house red wine is really poor. Other drinks good and some top shelf liquor selection so that was nice. Take the opportunity to visit Pineapple beach for free. Having info about hotel activities when you arrive would be nice. Other people gave this recommendation but not implemented. Also knowing the theme nights before arriving would be helpful in packing clothes that fit that theme night. The resort (on east coast) is far from most/all excursion meeting points (west coast) so taxis to get to your trip could cost you $75-100+ round trip which quickly adds up. My older teen and young adult children travelled with us. When we went over New years, there were many other groups like this. Overall, it was a nice hotel with good amenities.

Nice Resort, But Not for Me...

First, I guess, full disclosure—we did not choose The Verandah, nor would we have chosen it. We had booked a five-night stay at the nearby Pineapple Beach Club months earlier when we suddenly got emails saying that they would be closing for renovations and we would either move our trip to the Verandah or cancel. We had a group and coordinating the trip had taken a lot of effort to all get the same dates off and choose a Caribbean destination, so we chose to switch resorts, rather than cancel. The property had its pros and cons. It is expansive, which was probably the biggest con for me—it was too big. There isn’t any way I could have walked from one end of the property to the other and in the heat and humidity most of our group couldn’t even walk from our cottages to the main pool/dining areas because of the distance and the hills—it’s quite steep in some places. This is not a resort for those with mobility issues. The shuttles are helpful to an extent—the accommodations are a nice add on, but oftentimes we had to wait 15-20 minutes for them to arrive. I guess what I’m saying is what I prefer is a smaller, more intimate resort like the Pineapple Beach Club to a huge, sprawling resort like Verandah. The property is beautifully gardened and landscaped with a lot of lush green plants and colorful tropical flowers, although some parts of it looked kind of neglected, especially near the entrance to the resort. We also loved the stray cats—I’m sure they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but we loved being greeted by them at dinner and seeing them around the resort made me smile. We did enjoy our little cottage—it had tons of space to spread out in and having the mini kitchen was a nice bonus. We appreciated the front and back porches, too. We also enjoyed the pools. The main pool was a little loud and crowded for our taste, but we absolutely loved the other two pools—there was rarely anyone else at them and we could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We didn’t love either of the resort’s beaches, but we were thrilled when someone suggested walking up the street to Long Bay Beach—it was exactly the kind of beach we were looking for. The food at the resort was a bit hit or miss. For breakfast we mostly ate at the buffet, which was fine—they had a lot of variety there. We did eat at the coffee shop one morning because we had to leave for a tour before the buffet opened and we didn’t have many options there—mostly cakes and desserts left over from the night before. For lunches we mainly ate at the beach grill—they had the best wings and we enjoyed their salad bar, too. We did eat lunch one day at the pizza place and the pizza was decent and the view was gorgeous. For dinner, we at Portofino once, Sails and Tales once and the buffet three times. Our meal at Portofino was really good, although service was incredibly slow (we were in there for nearly three hours). Instead of an entrée, I ordered four of the starters and they were all delicious, as was dessert. We didn’t have a great experience at Sails and Tales. To start with, our server was terrible—she was probably the only staff member at this entire resort that we came across who was just rude and generally unpleasant. We almost got up and left several times because of her. She got all three of our meals wrong. Two of our meals were cold when they arrived. It was just a terrible dining experience and we felt like a wasted night. The buffet was generally ok—we really actually enjoyed Tex Mex night. We didn’t see what was very international about international night, but the food was decent. They have a really nice salad bar in the buffet, and an exceptional dessert spread. We also really liked the Wavy Wicket Pub—it’s a great place to grab a drink and some appetizers! The food at Verandah isn’t gourmet and it isn’t the best I’ve ever had at an all-inclusive resort. But it also wasn’t the worst. The staff are really what make the Verandah a lovely place. Aside from that one incredibly unpleasant waitress at Sails and Tales, every single other staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and overall delightful—from the servers to the shuttle drivers to the bartenders, just everyone was awesome (except that one waitress—she was awful). They were also all very proud to be Antiguans and very willing to share stories about their homeland and tips on where to go on-island/off-resort to get the best experiences, which we really appreciated. I always think you learn the most and get the best ideas from the locals and the Verandah staff didn’t disappoint! Overall the Verandah is a nice resort, there’s not really a single thing wrong with it, it just isn’t my kind of resort.

The Veranda - a fantastic resort.

First time to Antigua. We wanted an all-inclusive adults-only resort with good views and private beaches and the Veranda ticked the box on paper. It ticked the box in the flesh as well. Large rooms, veranda, spectacular views, great wines and cocktails included in the all-inc. Clean, decent food, golf-buggy transport around the resort, well-maintained beaches... and the staff were all fantastic. In particular I'd call out Dale, Chuntel, Andre and Joshua but there were plety of other team members whose names I can't recall who did a great job. If you like wildlife (birds in particular) take some binoculars! We'd struggle to find fault with any of of our stay, and certainly not anthing which would impact our 5-star rating. If I were to be VERY picky, I'd say that the beach-towels down by the main pool took some time to materialse on some days, and the bars occasionally took some time to stock up - but these are minor gripes. A fantastic resort and a memorable holiday. It didn't break the bacnk either.
