Great hotel with nice views
The hotel is convenient to walking to most things. The rooms are very clean. Housekeeping was on top of it the entire time. We didn’t expect them to come late in the day but they did and that was a nice bonus. We enjoyed the pool and the restaurant tikis. We actually didn’t get to use the beach candy as we were away most of the time but I do plan to return and we will make use of the rentals next time around. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and pleasant at answering any questions I had.

Average rooms, OK stay for the price
My overall review is so so. There is some good, and a lot of so so. If you want a place that is cheaper (don’t forget to factor in the higher parking and resort fee they charge), its probably a decent choice if you don’t care so much about the room. The hotel was recently purchased and changed its name to the Twin Fin. For me, the location was great. Yes it’s at the end of Waikiki, but that made it far easier to get in and out of by car, less crowded then farther down the street, yet a close walk to just about every restaurant, shop etc (lovely little beach shack for breakfast and lunch just a short walk down the beach..see my other reviews), and I highly recommend the restaurant in the hotel, Tiki Bar and Grill (see my separate review on that). It was also only about 10-15 min walk to the main parts of Kalākaua Ave (such as the international marketplace) The hotel website leads one to believe that hotel had undergone a refurbishing, but, insofar as the rooms, it was obvious that all they did was paint (if that), and possibly change the carpet in the halls. Paint was painted over defects , scratches, shower caulk, etc. to clean things up. Furniture was falling apart (literally part of a drawer came off in my hand, plugs that had been jerry-rigged years ago to some of the furniture to provide more outlets, and more convenience, were not usable because the plug would just slip out of most of the sockets from all the prior wear and tear. Bed clearly had not been replaced as there was a dip in the middle (so so on comfort). Rooms are very small. So small there was no table or chair in the room (I had to bring the table from the balcony inside to use as a chair and the dresser as a desk to work from). The website also is a bit misleading about the rooms. All the rooms, at least from what I can tell, have a balcony (lanai). And from what I can tell there are all the same size. Except for the ocean front rooms, all face the building next door. So ocean view is really a partial ocean view as part of it is blocked by the building next door. We got an “ocean view room with lanai “. Since only the ocean front room and ocean view rooms mentioned “lanai”, I thought maybe this balcony is bigger, or accessible and the others are not or something different. Nope all the same. And that ocean view, yes, from the balcony we had there was a decent ocean view down Waikiki (the other side of the building probably had an ocean view facing diamond head). Except for the ocean front rooms, the rooms all face the building next door. If your room is closer to the beach you have a view of the ocean and Waikiki (or I assume diamond head on the other side) from your balcony (hence ocean view), and if your room is farther in, you probably don’t have much of a view (partial if you get the right angle). But our ocean view room did not have any view from the room (unless you were up against the sliding door). Only from the balcony. The pool area was fine for me..as I don’t want sun, but a lot of people I heard complaining about it. Due to the location of the pool facing the building next to it, the pool is shaded by the hotel and building next door until about 3pm or so (or at least when I was there). The beach is across the street, although it’s a narrower strip of sand. For that $45 a day resort fee, plus tax, you get a certain amount of credits at the beach shop downstairs. If I remember correctly two chairs and an umbrella…if they have any left. We were their in Feb which was not a busy time. We went late morning and they only had a couple of chairs left and no umbrellas. (towels you get near the pool to take) Parking was atrocious. Its only valet, at $50 a night plus tax. Most of the time the valet took forever, as they don’t have enough people handling it. Dropping off or picking up. One day we waited almost 50 min for our car (after having texted ahead of time per instructions). I complained to management and they told me they would give me that day’s parking for free. (I appreciated that gesture, but would have preferred they just have more valets). Of course, when I checked out, there was no deduction for the one night of parking. I complained to the cashier and showed the person the text from management, and they quickly made the adjustment…but shouldn’t management have already put it in my folio? Service was good throughout (aside from the lack of valets and management not following through on my discount). When we passed the maid on our floor she always asked us if we needed anything. Some complain about the elevators being slow, but the only time that is an issue is if you are coming from or going to the 1st floor as not all the elevators go down to the that floor (I learned to take the elevator to the 3rd floor or catch the elevators on the 3rd floor and take the escalator down, or up from the first floor. Wifi was ok in the room, although I found it going in and out a few times. By the pool I found the wifi did not work that well and found it easier hot spotting from my phone. Overall, it’s a reasonably good place to stay , if you don’t mind a small, average, so so room

Never again
First, we are quite disappointed with Waikiki as a whole. It's our third visit to Oahu and it is the worst. Complete rip off everywhere. Prices are too high and totally out of control. Now, about the Twin Fin Hotel. For a partial Ocean view room you will be paying $400CAD per night and will be enjoying a moldy, smelly 1.5-2 star level room comparable to basic Travelodge Hotel. Breakfast cost extra $55USD. For additional 160USD per night you could have stayed in Sheraton. Conclusion? It's not worth $400CAD per night. Hotel keeps sending SMS message every day asking if anything can be done to make the stay more memorable? However, when specific requests are made, they are not communicated and nothing happens. Next day - another message - what can we do to make your stay memorable? I think they were told to send out these robotic messages, but nobody actually does anything. Last day was particularly horrible. Again, for $400 Canadian dollars per night, our whole family had to endure a strong smell of weed coming though the room's vent system as someone in the adjacent room was smoking marijuana. All they offered was free breakfast after I made two complaints. Never again are we going to come back to this hotel and to Waikiki in general. Maybe even to Hawaii.

The New Twin Fin is Fantastic!
We have stayed and loved this property before as the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel and equally loved it as the Twin Fin. Whenever we come back to this property we feel as if we are treated as family. This trip, our stay was for six weeks. Everything and everyone met or exceeded our expectations. Beginning with check in. The front desk crew, especially Nicole was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast crew up in the Coconut Room always started our day with a smile. Gloria and Cheville were always so much fun to talk with and we looked forward to seeing them every morning. Melanie and the rest of the breakfast crew always made sure we were happy with everything. Our housekeeper Marietta, Randy & Dely from parking, along with the crew from Beach Candy rounded out our great experience. Thanks to the management team. Randy, Cody, Gloria and Jeanine who always took the time to make us feel welcome. Lastly, a very special thank you to Lillian and Ika for overseeing all the details to make our stay so special. We appreciate all the kindness.

Great location
We stayed in The Twin Fin for one week. The location is great: close to the busy Waikiki tourist area as well as the nice quiet local beach park. Our oceanfront room is great. The room is very clean. The breakfast is excellent!
