Good experience with just some creative opportunities to be better
Spent 10 days there with my wife and some other friends and agree with some of the criticism, but definitely not all. Older resort but decently maintained for its age. We lost water one night in our block from midnight till 6am and the elevator in Bldg. E is still out of order. They need to redefine "yes the room has a mini fridge but unless you pay extra, the only thing, they replenish is the water"!! Don't expect to get a beach chair unless you are there between 6:00-6:30am and the majority of those are broken!! Food was great quality as well as the staff were extremely friendly. Love the size of the resort as well as not having to make reservations at the restaurants. Overall, a positive experience and decent value for the money
Here now & love it!
My husband and I arrived Sat the 21st & are here till next week. We have traveled extensively to AI resorts in Mexico, Dominican & Cuba and we are very happy here! Nope not a 5 star but we knew that & the price we paid reflected that. The food, staff accommodations & services ate great!! Not luxurious but GREAT. We love the AMR chain for no reservations required & have never waited long to get seated for a meal. Highly recommend Sun Club, the extra perks are worth it! Every day there is staff working to clean ^ repair minor issues around the resort... don't listen to the negative reviews!
Great family vacation
Came here last week for a week with 6 others. Had a blast! Not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from. I’m under the impression people complaining about food are so used to eating McDonald’s that they forget what real food is supposed to taste like. Food was excellent especially the pasta at portafinos (carbonara). We never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get a seat inside a restaurant. We were sunclub pool view and had a balcony. Rooms were nice and big but could be a tiny bit cleaner. My room was cleaned daily and I was given towels daily however, my mom in ocean front didn’t have the same luxury. On the last day the room smelled heavily with sewage but as it was the last night I didn’t make a complaint. The beach is beautiful and like others are saying, water shoes are a must as it’s very rocky.
The Best Experience in Mexico
My husband and I took a 6 day vacation to reconnect and have time to our selfs away from the chaos of everyday life. The resort was small and intimate absolutely loved it, the staff was all very pleasant. Food and drinks were spatacular, and feeling you were part of the resort family was the best. Being able to wake up every morning to an amazing view right from my bed was breath taking. Our favorite was the Spa we were so pampered by them and we both enoyed it. One of our favorite experiences at the resort was the Sweat Spa experience. I have done sweat spas before but nothing like this. It was so spiritual and beutiful, i connected with my self and felt like i left there with a new purpose in life. Thank you to Victor and the rest of his staff at the spa for creating such an amazing experience for my husband and I and the rest of our new friends we made that day. You guys are beutiful people and i am so glad i was able to experience something so wonderful! Thank you for your hospitality and i will definitely return to this resort again.
Catfish Resort - 10 in pics, 2 in real life
There are countless reasons why Hyatt is shutting this place down to be fixed this year, not only is it dirty but it's also unsafe. If you're already booked, do yourself a favour and switch to another resort while you still can. The only positive thing I can say about our "vacation" at Sunscape Akumal is regardless of where we take our next vacation, it'll seem like heaven next to this resort. The reasons I've left a negative review are the constant stink of sewage, leaking ceilings in the Sunclub area, musty wet towels left on the hall floor for nearly a week to absorb some of the ceiling leaks, an abundance of mould in rooms and common areas - including in the ventilation, filthy rooms and facilities (puke was left in the hall for 2 days, puke in the stairwell for all 10 days we were there, dried blood that had run down the wall in the bathroom of the first room we were given), cracked and unsafe balconies, nonfunctioning jetted tubs, drains that you need to cover with wet towels to stop some of the stink from seeping into the room, food poisoning x 2, room service breakfast dropped on the floor then picked up and served to us like nothing happened, waking up to cockroaches in our bed and on the wall, and seaweed left stinking on the beach. The Sunclub bar opens at the same time as the others despite claiming otherwise, and the "special" Sunclub snacks are pretty much the same food you can get at the buffet. Even the sketchiest Canadian gas stations offer better food than much of what is served at this resort. Fresh fruit is minimal, as are any healthy choices. The Sunclub area can be accessed by anyone staying at the resort, they claim room keys allow you access but that's only true of the door directly beside the Sunclub bar. Don't waste your money "upgrading" if you decide to ignore the negative reviews. If you think all negative reviewers are Karen's and still want to book at this resort, please remember to pack a lot of pepto bismol and electrolyte tablets to reduce your suffering. You'll need it.
