Secrets run-around and cold food
My wife and I visited this Secrets and would not recommend this one. The best meal we had was room service. All of the other food was luke warm at best. The advertise top shelf liqueur but there was not any to be found. A number of the restaurants were without multiple dishes for a couple of days.
5 Days in February Vacation
Before our trip, the US State department issued 'warnings' about visiting Jamaica. It gave my spouse and I some serious concerns about changing our plans. I'm glad we didn't. The resort was secure and we always felt safe, even when we left on a guided excursion to Dunns river falls, which was 8am - 430pm. The all-inclusive dining and drinks provided lots of varying options. I will say that if you want to get some chaise loungers, plan to have towels in your room the night before, and go claim them by 6am, with the towels and some personal belongings. If you only use towels, the lifeguard will let others move them, as they don't know if you've already abandoned those chairs for the day.
Not The One in The Commercial
This is not the resort in the Secrets Resort Commercials or anything close. Do not waste your time or money visiting as this resort is severely run down. Our patio door handle was broken & would not lock along with the A/C, TV and safe not working in our room. Food & drinks were sub-par at best. Go to the Breathless resort if you want the real experience.
Great time in Jamaica
Secrets in Montego Bay was a great place to holiday. The room, food the service and general atmosphere was fantastic. We tried all of the restaurants and with the top 3 being the Oceana (seafood ) , Japanese and the Italian restaurant. Special shout out to Vaniesa Anderson who made our experience extra special by going above and beyond to make sure we got to sample the dumplings from the Japanese restaurant which were the best dumplings ever. No question this place will make your holiday experience a great one.
If you enjoy a loud party instead of relaxation this place is for you.
We frequent adult-only all-inclusive resorts. We have visited probably ten or more in the Caribbean- mostly the Excellence but decided to go with Secrets for our first Jamaica trip. SUMMARY: We paid over $1,000/day for the resort and with airfare, parking and dog-boarding we paid nearly $10,000 for the 7-day vacation. We returned home after day three. We couldn't afford to lose any more of our limited vacation time and we desperately needed to destress rather than party. The Jamaican staff exuded genuine hospitality and helpfulness. But the Services/Programming offered were misleading from their website and what our travel agent was told. The resort needs to choose between trying to accommodate couples and trying to accommodate groups because it is too small to do both. As it stands now, it is predominantly for loud, white, middle-aged American groups who are ready to party. Reasons for my low review: - Timeshare pitch upon check-in. Felt creepy considering we paid extra to be there in the first place. -Loud, obnoxious, thumping music was a central feature of the resort. None of it was Jamaican or even reggae. Think really bad American wedding dj- all day and into the night. - There is no such thing as peace and quiet during the day (not even in our room which we paid extra for the view but faced into the loud pool area). And on weekends the screaming DJs go late into the night. It's psychological warfare. -Constant middle-aged frat party vibe. Large groups and parties who wanted to play loud pool volleyball and to take "shots, shots, shots, shots, shots" all day at the pool bar and sit at big group tables at the restaurants. Sometimes those things are fun. But the resort simply was not big enough to provide both. There were no quiet pools, beach areas or restaurants. Might be great for wedding or corporate groups, just not great for couples looking to reconnect or anyone looking to read, nap or hear the sounds of the ocean to unwind which is what we went there exclusively to do. -The pool is small and the beach area is small with too few chairs to accommodate all the guests. Pro-tip: if you want a place to sit during the day (which is the only thing to do- other than pay for an excursion or pay for a massage) you have to go out and save your chairs before 6:30 a.m. or else they will all be taken. - A corporate party of about 75 dominated the place while we were there. We thought we had found a quiet area of the beach but then they set up with their own screaming DJ and club music for group activities right next to us. They were so crass and loud and screaming in their drunken team-building, I had trouble even listening to a podcast with my headphones. It went on for hours. I asked an employee how much longer they were going to be there and he shamed me for not thinking it was a fun time. I told him it was not the mental break I was told the resort would be. His response was, "Some people's fun is not other people's fun and they paid more than you." -The evening entertainment is also loud and obnoxious. It is set up outside near the restaurants and if you don't eat before it starts you can't have a peaceful conversation or a romantic dinner because the evening entertainment and large group tables drown it out. -The Jamaican entertainers sang only classic American covers that people like to sing along to (think Sweet Caroline and Mo-nay, Mo-nay). Although they did their best, we were disappointed. We wanted to see more Jamaican heritage showcased. The Jamaican restaurant was not good and it was the one we looked forward to the most. -No full length mirror in the hotel room. The room jet tub only fits one person comfortably and is located in the bathroom. Pros: -The French restaurant was our favorite followed by the Mexican restaurant. -The breakfast and lunch buffet offerings were hit and miss but there was lots of selection. -The sunsets and the view. Gorgeous. -The bed was comfortable -The gym. The most peace and quiet we found was on a treadmill.
