Our review of Secrets Vallarta Bay.
My husband and I just returned from a one-week Preferred Club holiday at Secrets Vallarta Bay. This resort was beautifully landscaped, and its physical spaces such as the main lobby have been gorgeously designed. As always at Secrets resorts, the staff was excellent, and we want to give a shout out to a few of them here. At the Preferred Club, Carlos Miranda, Jose Becerra, and Gilberto Sojo went out of their way to accommodate any requests. In the Market Place Buffet, Antonio Huerto and Sergio Olea always made us feel welcome and ensured that we had everything we needed. Similarly, Edson Colmenares and Gilberto Coutreras both provided great service at the Oceana Restaurant. The food at this resort was a highlight, especially at the open-air seafood restaurant Oceana where we ended up going to dinner for three nights. It was also the only place to watch the sun set over the ocean while enjoying your meal. We quickly realized that we had to line up about half an hour before it opened at 6:30 pm since it was of course first come first served, and the available general seating was unnecessarily limited to only the first of two levels since the tables on the second floor were always held back for any guests who were willing to pay extra for expensive bottles of wine instead of just drinking the very acceptable wines that were automatically offered under the all-inclusive feature. In fact, the second level of seating was often almost empty most nights. One thing that we didn’t realize is that this resort regularly attracts big group conventions. During our stay, the resort was overrun by one. This resulted in the two medium sized pools being virtually unavailable for swimming. The pool closest to the beach was crammed full of people standing shoulder to shoulder with drinks from the swim-up bar. The second pool was deemed the Activity Pool, and some days had continuous volleyball games happening which prevented anyone else from even entering the pool. We eventually solved that problem by going over to the adjoining Dreams resort to use their pools. Interestingly, Dreams which hosts families with children was much more peaceful and relaxing than the adults only Secrets side because of how much the convention members partied. Please be aware that there is ongoing construction for a 25-floor tower going on beside the resort, so there were some periods of excessive construction noise during the daytime. Also, the main entrance to the beach from the pool area contains potentially hazardous rocks and cinder blocks partially hidden under the sand as you step down and are also present in the sand around the beach chaises. It might be a good idea for the resort to either paint the rocks with a bright colour or to simply remove them to avoid tripping or injury. The last information that we need to share is about the always-present problem of guests getting up at 7am to reserve prime shaded chaises around the pools and on the beach with towels. Other Secrets resorts have beach concierge staff who monitor how long these “reserved” chaises sit empty and remove the towels/books to make them available to other guests after a specified length of time of them not being used. This monitoring process did not happen at Secrets Vallarta Bay. We still feel that Secrets is a good resort brand, and we will continue to explore staying at their other properties in the future.

return trip to Secrets!
We traveled to Puerto Vallarta Secrets Vallarta Bay in January 2023 with 10 other people. The property is amazing, and there are always people working to keep it sparkling clean. We stayed in the Preferred Club, and we were blessed to have Carlos Miranda as our butler and Jose Becerra to make our stay flawlessly fun! He made great suggestions for activities and helped with dinner plans. If we needed anything, like more Coke Light in our rooms, it was there after we visited with Carlos! We spent an inordinate amount of time at the swim up bar and pool, and the experience did not disappoint. The wait staff including Carlos, Oscar, and Alfonso were terrific! The food was good at every restaurant, and the service and presentation were superb. We were at this resort about 4 years ago, and I remember the live music in the evening being of a higher quality. We were also disappointed that many of the top-shelf pours we enjoy, like Crown Royal and Grey Goose are no longer part of the selection.

Pure bliss
My husband and I stayed at Secrets for a family wedding, we had a master pool swim out in the preferred section. Everything was so amazing from waiter/restaurant staff to the maids and pool/entertainment staff but most of all our butler Carlos Miranda was very attentive always trying to ensure we enjoyed our stay making everything go seamlessly.

Excellent stay!
Such a wonderful resort to stay at. I don’t have any complaints at all. All 6 days we were there were great! Stayed in the vip preferred club and I would definitely recommend that. The rooms are upgraded and you have a jacuzzi tub on the balcony. Also a private bar open for longer hours and a mini buffet/snack bar all day long. The best part was having Carlos Miranda as our butler with the help of Jose Becerra. They were very helpful and met all our needs.

Tops our list for resorts!
Secrets Vallarta Bay has been a favorite of our group since our first stay. It's beautiful grounds and views are a wonderful setting for relaxing and enjoying their beautiful weather. The resort shot even higher on our list after this stay. The food was amazing, and the wait staff were attentive and helpful. We were struck and commented to each other on how all the staff were happy and obviously loved their jobs. Carlos Miranda and his assistant Jose Becerra were fabulous with taking care of any needs our group had and were frequently checking in with us to make sure our day and plans were the best they could be. Such personal attention to detail and care for our experience added an extra layer of quality to our already awesome experience. We highly recommend a stay at this resort and their preferred rooms/area.
