There really are no words to describe this paradise. The service is outstanding. Actually, beyond outstanding. And even with two days of rain, we had the best time. Beach was beautiful this time of year, very little seaweed. Building 16 top floor, although not nearby to the preferred club amenities, is THE place to stay for the best ocean view. Esther, the building concierge, exceeded expectations once again as she always does. If you prefer an oceanfront room, building 17 with concierge Paola is top notch - stayed there in Dec 2022. Both women go out of their way to ensure your vacation is worry-free. Hugo, conference wait staff, went out of his way to be sure we were comfortable. Received the best deep tissue massage EVER from Harvey in the spa. Although it’s not the most relaxing type of massage, Harvey worked out kinks I didn’t even realize I had. Wish I could visit once a month for this. I highly recommend Maroma. It is easily one of my favorite places to visit.
I’ll definitely return!
Upgrade to the Preferred Club- it’s worth it. I had a massage with Diana and she was fabulous- definitely recommend requesting her! The buffet in the morning wasn’t too impressive but at Lunch, it was great! The pool has a bunch of loungers! The pizza oven at the pool is amazing but not open very long, which was disappointing
Still Top Shelf
We last reviewed this adults only AI about three years ago. Along with the Excellence and Leblanc brands, it remains at the top of the options in the Cancun area. Properties on the Riviera are larger than those in Cancun. They are located in the jungle, which means lusher vegetation, more animals and a more laid back vibe. Two pools, the one with the swim up bar is heated. Lots of pool activities and games. The beach is beautiful walkable white sugar sand with swimmable warm water that is fairly calm due to a reef offshore. There can be days, however, when seagrass can be washed onshore. It is not predictable. The property does daily beach cleaning. The property offers free water equipment and tours. Rooms are modern and good sized with good toiletries. Reliable maid and turn down service daily. There is a concierge in each building to help with requests. Minibars and snacks are refilled daily. Secrets is fairly lenient with restaurant dress codes. We saw shorts and open toed shoes allowed even in the “casual elegant” restaurants. Between 7-8:30 there can be a wait of 30 minutes at the popular French, Italian and Asian spots. There is also a steak place, fish house and buffet for breakfast and dinner. The French and Italian were really quite good. We think the Asian, however, has regressed both in choices and quality of food. The Asian redesign is neither romantic nor elegant. Oceana and Seaside Grill were also good open air locations with live music outside for dinner. Lunch options also include a very good poolside grill and pizza oven. Once a week there is a lunchtime outdoor fish market and various themed buffet dinners with entertainment outdoors during the week. We do think that at this price point, to compete with Excellence and Leblanc, lobster should be on a menu without an up charge. The AI house wines are limited but drinkable. Alcohol is fairly top shelf. There are pretty good quality theater shows each nite, and a disco and outdoor sports bar. Staff is very friendly and helpful in all aspects of service. It’s a combination of culture and training that is simply unmatched in the Carib outside of Mexico. It is more than appropriate to tip the staff for their work even though this is AI. Don’t worry about Mexican pesos; they prefer the dollars. Our largest beef is with the spa. The outdoor hydrotherapy area is in serious need of renovation and upgrading. The ground and pool surfaces are extremely abrasive and uncomfortable. The shower sandals will cut your feet, so bring your own water shoes and women who want to sit in the jacuzzi must be careful not to ruin the material. The attendants were hit or miss instead of attentively escorting us from one station to another in the hydrotherapy circuit. Secrets Maroma remains a very solid choice for a high quality vacation experience where one can be as active or relaxed as preferred.
SIX GREEN DOTS FOR THIS PROPERTY!!!!
If you only can visit one resort in Mexico it should absolutely be Secrets Maroma. My husband and I have been 5 times over the last few years. How lucky we have been to be the recipients of great service in the hands of professionals that get up each day trying to make each of your vacation days the best you've ever experienced. The beach is perfecto!!! The best kept secret at Secrets Maroma are the beach cabanas. They are extra but worth every dollar. We rent a cabana for each day of our stay.
Luxury, magnificent beach, romantic
We spent the days on the glorious, expansive beach what you could walk for miles in both directions, and the evenings sitting on the terrace. The staff is so friendly and attentive. Food is wonderful, great selection. The layout of the resort is romantic and intimate. Love the hammocks and sitting areas.
